Ok so I tried rooting for the Thunder through the WCF and just couldn't get into it. So I guess we'll try the Spurs when next season starts and then either abandon it altogether or crawl back to the Mavs and just hate our moronic new ownership until I'm too dead inside to remember.
Stop complaining about the trade and move on. Teams make awful trades all the time and you got to luck into the first pick.
While I understand the sentiment, I would posit that nobody has ever made a trade like this before. Even Kareem had already won a title at least, and it's not like the city loved him. More importantly, the reprehensible behavior and treatment of the traded player during and after the deal is something I have never seen, nor heard of, before. I am strengthened in this claim when anyone I respect on basketball knowledge seems to feel the same way, even the hated historian of basketball Bill Simmons didn't have a worse one.
And you obviously don't understand the emotional connection to the city and with Dirk. But that's ok - fortunately, I didn't ask you! (or any other randomly-show-up-only-for-the-playoffs folks) I think some people, especially those who may consider me at least a FBG friend, may care about the journey. For others, you can scroll by or even use the ignore feature.
The Wilt trade is the worst trade in NBA history. Worst deal is when the Nets sold Doc J to 76ers.
Which Wilt trade? And how are you scoring "worst?" Because neither comes close.
Warriors to 76ers - they literally couldn't afford his salary, and the city hated him. Did they get a horrible return? yes. Did they alienate any fans? No. That's kind of my point. Today is not like any host of dumb trades - there's a significant level of emotion involved.
76ers to Lakers - he requested the trade. Obviously the return wasn't great, but not remotely close to the same toll on fanbase.
Like I said, you clearly don't understand the player-city connection on top of the legacy with Dirk (and, by the way, how they treated Dirk during and after the trade).
Not going to argue with someone who is blinded by anger on this. If you can't look at those deals I name realisticly fine by me.
LOL. That's ok, move the goal posts.
I don't disagree that the actual on court return in those deals is worse. You've decided that's what we are talking about. it is not. We are looking holistically, at the impact on the fanbase. Not the on court product. The anger is the whole point, Redwes. before we talk about being blinded, let's try reading.
I never moved goal posts. I said it was a bad trade so deal with it.
Even if under your goal posts the Nets selling Doc J is worse for fan base and destroyed the franchise for decades. You got a hall of famer back, a good young guard and a 1st round pick.
Thanks for the take. I still don't think you read. It's ok, not everyone wants to read. Just weird to engage repeatedly and still not do so.
Just in case: I am not upset at the trade being bad (though it was). I am upset that two arrogant ******** repeatedly bashed one of the 3 best players in the franchise's history, insulting him over and over, and acted like everyone should be happy he was gone. Upset that they told the greatest player in the history of all Dallas sports (inarguably up there with Aikman, Ryan, and Modano, and the one who spent the longest time with one team EVER) that his opinion and presence were not valued or desired. Upset that it was done with no notice or discussion right on the heels of a Finals appearance, a little. The greater point being, that while the basketball side was and always will be dumb, the method and the underhandedness and the rudeness and the arrogance are the issue.
You're welcome to decide how you'd react or not. You'll obviously judge how I react. But these things are not up for debate. To your "deal with it," I say "I am."
Funny, I only know one of Aikman, Ryan, and Modano
Are you from Dallas?
Troy Aikman is a famous NFL QB who won a couple super bowls here.
Nolan Ryan is a famous baseball pitcher who spent the last 5 years of his career here, but also spent so much time in Houston that he's well known. Add in that his brand of beef is sold everywhere...Idk. Maybe Pudge or Palmeiro is a better choice but I think Ryan is probably the best known baseball player in the metroplex.
Mike Modano is a famous hockey player. I think he is widely considered the best Dallas ever had, won a Stanley Cup here, etc.
You could make an argument (and then hope that
@Redwes25 actually read it before responding LOL) that football is so important that Mt Rushmore in Dallas is really more like Aikman, Smith, and Irvin alongside Dirk...but even then Dirk is one of the four
