Fans are down on Tomlin, but this is an ownership group that’s almost never changed coaches. I think it would have to take Tomlin first stepping down for it to happen and not sure he’s going to do that until he’s ready.Sports radio blowhards running the trade for Tomlin angle. Steller fans really are down on Tomlin - maybe there is a chance they move on. Jets should keep a close eye on that situation - Tomlin would be a home run hire for them. Wouldn't trade the #7 for him but I would consider sending picks to make it happen - maybe a 2d this year and next - Worked out well the last time,
Or much more, if Dallas decides they want him.Yeah, seems like Mccarthy probably isn't an option for the Jets. But his availability may result in less competition for Glenn
working for Woody or Jerry Jones - sounds like a new season of Squid Games.Or much more, if Dallas decides they want him.Yeah, seems like Mccarthy probably isn't an option for the Jets. But his availability may result in less competition for Glenn
Sam is who we thought he is - I actually think it may have the opposite effect - IF they bring in the Minny trio I think Sam got a lot cheaper to obtain - may even have to sign a one year prove it deal. Id be ok with him as a reasonably price bridge QB if they draft someone in say the 2d or 3rd rd or even next year. I doubt he gets franchised now or dealt so may be able to just sign him outright - have him compete with Tyrod - could do worse.Hopefully the last two weeks shuts down the "lets bring Darnold back" crowd.
I was rooting for him but he sure cost himself a LOT of money these last two games.
you’re missing arthur smiff. rich family, like woody. billionaire dad who knows woody. prior to saleh, was liked by woody. hyper mediocre and a losing record, preferred by woody.Little quiet on the hiring front - heard some beat writers predicting Jets hire a GM this week who would then be in on the HC interviews. GM hire could tip who is the HC fave.
Candidates still with momentum
Aaron Glenn - seems like only competition is Saints. Ive warmed on him but cant shake off another DC.
Flores - checks boxes - at least former HC. Hopefully would bring in McCown.
McCown - could be a dark horse - better to be a year early than late. Hes been talked about for a while - my concern of him coming in as a pkg with Flores is IF he puts out a solid O he's gone and left rudderless on O again. Im so desperate for a legit O Id seriously consider taking a shot on McCown if the deep dive shows him as a possible future solid offensive mind,
McCarthy - he openly wanted the job last time he was free - checks a lot of boxes. Say what you want about his big game crashes but he wins. Could be attractive if they extend AR for 2 yrs and he gets to coach him one last time but drafts/develops a young QB as well. Could do worse
Rex - speaking of worse lol - despite his best efforts to keep in the mix I just dont hear anything to show hes a serious contender.
anyone else out there that Im missing as a serious contender?
Definitely should be added - I'd put him right around Rex - no thanks!you’re missing arthur smiff. rich family, like woody. billionaire dad who knows woody. prior to saleh, was liked by woody. hyper mediocre and a losing record, preferred by woody.Little quiet on the hiring front - heard some beat writers predicting Jets hire a GM this week who would then be in on the HC interviews. next coach of the nyj and more years of misery.
Apparently he's now a leading contender. Can we say Adam Gase II?Definitely should be added - I'd put him right around Rex - no thanks!you’re missing arthur smiff. rich family, like woody. billionaire dad who knows woody. prior to saleh, was liked by woody. hyper mediocre and a losing record, preferred by woody.Little quiet on the hiring front - heard some beat writers predicting Jets hire a GM this week who would then be in on the HC interviews. Arthur Smith is about as close to Gase as it gets - would be at the bottom of listApparently he's now a leading contender. I dont want to even picture Arthur Smith as HCIf they hire Smith, Hall will be 3rd on the team in carries and the leading WR will be Gipson. He loves to ignore the top players on the team.
I’ve probably said it before but that may be the final blow to push me away from caring about this team at all.I dont want to even picture Arthur Smith as HCIf they hire Smith, Hall will be 3rd on the team in carries and the leading WR will be Gipson. He loves to ignore the top players on the team.
I'm not quite as down on Arthur Smith, although I do hold him partly responsible for some of my FedEx packages arriving late.Arthur Smith. I actually got in a fight with Bri about him on these very boards. I guess I get in fights more often than your average bear, but that’s about what I think about Arthur Smith.
Agree on this. Would rather give Glenn a chance than one of these recycled guys. Have to have a bit of trepidation going for one of the hot names in the assistant community, as it failed with Saleh, but sometimes they do work out.Beat writer reported Aaron Glenn wants the Jets job bad and its top job on his list. Love to hear that! I know he's a DC with no HC experience but out of whats available I think he may be the best.
Former player who understands NY, the team history, fans and media; players love him but not a players coach who gets run over; part of turning around a loser franchise; seems to understand he needs to be involved in the O as well - I like so far. High on my list
Now thats a trio I could get behind! If it’s Glenn, I hope that means Chris Spielman as GM.
Although we expected McCown to be tied to Flores, I don’t see why Glenn can’t bring him on board as OC.
Jets look like a joke even when doing due diligence....I'm all for getting a bunch of different perspectives, but at some point, its just TOO MANY interviews.
Just makes it seems like you have absolutely ZERO idea what you want.
I could see him having a Bowles type career
Agree, but not sure they’re close to a GM either, which could be the deterrent for Glenn. My uneducated opinion is that Glenn takes the Saints job with a bit more clarity/stability abound.Aaron Glen is making an in person 2d interview with the Jets his 1st stop - lot of smoke here. With no GM in place if they go Glen there has to be an understanding in place on the GM - no way a coach in as demand as Glen takes the job without any clue or say in the GM.
If he's the pick its hard not to think its Saleh 2.0 - but there are some positives here. Homegrown Jet, seems to be more of an all around coach than Saleh, was part of a turn around of a dumpster fire - looks like a darn good X/Os guy as well as being CEO type of coach instead of all D all the time like the others
OC will be a big hire - Brunnell is another ex Jet/solid player who is the QB coach in Det and did a very good job with Goff - could see him coming as the OC.
Have a feeling AG may not leave the building when he comes in.
Saints seem to be a definite contender for AG but not sure if Id call that situation stable - they are in absolute cap hell with Jets much better nucleus of team.Agree, but not sure they’re close to a GM either, which could be the deterrent for Glenn. Fair - I meant more stable in terms of QB if they’re going to roll one more year with Carr and probably a more rational owner.Saints seem to be a definite contender for AG but not sure if Id call that situation stable - they are in absolute cap hell with Jets much better nucleus of team.Agree, but not sure they’re close to a GM either, which could be the deterrent for Glenn. As for GM I cant see that as being a deterrent if the Jets want him - im sure there is a pkg deal in place if AG takes the job....but you never know with Woody!
Another defensive coach. Yay! None of the OC candidates seem exciting
Very similar feelings! How bad was Ulbrich to make Saleh get a couple of head coaching interviews? Holy cow. Ulbrich was so bad that somehow he made Saleh look good in comparison when Saleh was in fact horrific. I still have ptsd from these two guys.
I liked Glenn as a player and as a person. I wish him luck, but I cannot feel excited about this other than I'm excited it's not Arthur Smith or any of the retreads. None of the interesting coaching candidates wanted to come here. Not that I blame them. Our interview list was pretty bad.
Congrats to Tannenbaum for squeezing money out of Woody for basically nothing.
Another defensive coach. Yay! None of the OC candidates seem exciting. Time is a flat circle. Fast forward to the 2029 coaching search. At least we have the advantage of an early start again.
And people used to consider me to to be the Jets optimist.
Despite his struggles, I think Saleh is viewed as a very good leader of men/CEO type, and perhaps that is enough to sway some other teams as long as he surrounds himself with the right assistants. But one of those assistants should be a game management coordinator. How bad was Ulbrich to make Saleh get a couple of head coaching interviews? Holy cow. not unfair - only hope is he's coming from an organization with a dynamic offense - we need to hope he learned that this is the way to win in the NFL now. Im going to be optimistic until he shows otherwiseAnother defensive coach. Yay! None of the OC candidates seem exciting
Can't wait to see him all animated on the sidelines celebrating stopping a 3rd and 3 only to give the ball right back to the opposition after three yards and a cloud of dust on all three plays we get.
I just didnt see it - he was a glorified DC. Ignored the offense, let players walk over him, awful in game coaching, lost all the fire that excited people when he was a DC - he's a fantastic DC. With a great team and coordinators around him perhaps he can be a Todd Bowles clone but Saleh had his chances with the Jets and showed littleDespite his struggles, I think Saleh is viewed as a very good leader of men/CEO type, and perhaps that is enough to sway some other teams as long as he surrounds himself with the right assistants. Probably true, although it often comes down to environment/ecosystem. Bowles landed in a great environment in TB, surrounded himself with the right people, and now he is viewed as a very good head coach. Which is why Glenn is already going to be behind the 8-ball if he takes the job.I just didnt see it - he was a glorified DC. Agreed - Bowles has a great set up in Tampa. Got lucky on a QB and a solid OC. Interested to see how he'd do if the OC leaves.Probably true, although it often comes down to environment/ecosystem. Fans are a fickle, irrational bunch focusing on what have you done for me lately. Everyone will point to his defense's disastrous showing against Washington and won't give credit for how the same undermanned unit manhandled the high-powered Vikings offense two weeks before to win the top seed - will say it was only Darnold.Perusing some Jet message boards and very mixed reaction on Glen. Not sure who would be markedly better that is available and wants to be here - I get that the playoff loss was a bad way to end but his defense was on fumes, banged up and got torched by perhaps the best rookie QB we've seen in a long time. Gotta give the guy a chance -
