*** 2024 Pittsburgh Steelers: Watt in, Pickens out week 16 vs Ravens (8 Viewers)

Good breakdown of Pickens' snaps by formation/personnel here.

Essentially, he only was in on 10% of heavy sets/personnel, and we went heavy a lot.

So maybe nothing to really see here, other than in previous weeks, he played in more of those sets, and he seemed to swap with Austin against Dallas as far as percentages go in heavy.

He only ran a route on 65% of Fields dropbacks.

Considering his talent level vs the other WR’s if this was purely a plan and not something going on then it’s coaching malpractice.

But in light of the message he chose to put on his face tape I find it impossible to think there was not an issue going on between him and the team before the game.

But he was in on 100% of snaps in 11 personnel and in on like 10% in certain heavy sets. So maybe we were being too cute throwing out of the TE sets.

Hearing rumblings:

Pickens reduced PT is somewhat discipline related, as well as lack of effort on the field and running incorrect routes at times too.

Roman is having practice issues, and is not as receptive to coaching as one would hope apparently . . . .

Ouch.
Yeah this is getting quite severe. Too early to mail it in but we're losing momentum quickly. We need Herbig, Highsmith and Leal healthy.
We also need Cordarelle and Warren.
The OL - gonna have to make do since they were all season ending.

I'm done with Pickens though. Let him **** around for the next 2 years at $1.5 a year and spend a high pick on a better fit.
Someone else's headache

Also done w/ Najee. He is just too slow to play lead back in the NFL. We can draft or sign an RB as well.
Just stop pretending he's a first round talent.

How many teams now need a QB vs how many good prospects are out there?

Panthers, Jets, Raiders, Steelers - need something now vs later, add the Titans to this list.

Dolphins, Browns - need something but are locked in at $200 mil.

Steelers were done with Diontae Johnson, so they traded him. Problem currently is that they didn't replace him with a proven veteran. If your done with GP then like menobrown stated the other day. You're looking at one of the worst wide receiver groups ever.

Roman Wilson in camp looked great depending on who you talk to. Now there's the rumor that Roman is having issues with coaching and practice. Turn up the heat on the WR coach.

Problem I have with Pat F calling out anyone yes, he will attempt to block but he's not a blocking TE.

Najee run's a 40 in 4.45 seconds. Personally, I think it's a vision thing with him. Especially after 2 weeks ago when Cordarrelle outperformed him. Najee won't be back next year. Unless Najee takes a discount, which won't happen.

It’s not that Najee CAN’T run fast, it’s that he has no urgency behind the line or through it. He still runs hard once he gets past the 1st level, but thinks he is Leveon Bell before that point. He most definitely is not.

This defense is in big big trouble with the guys that are out. It could get pretty ugly
Good week to play the Raiders.

ETA- why is Tomlin putting out so much injury info today? Not that it will matter but he did not need to disclose any of that till tomorrow’s injury report.

I guess we should have traded Pickens for Aiyuk?

It just sucks overall that we never got one single play with the projected O-Line and RBs and Roman Wilson getting hurt in camp never allowed him a shot as a WR2.

They didn't replace Johnson with anyone. Wilson was never remotely a Johnson replacement. A rookie slot receiver is not in any way ever going to replace Johnson.

He isn't a great blocker, but he certainly isn't taking those plays off.

When did he run a 4.45? Was there a 40mh tailwind. He is a 4.7 guy who wouldn't run predraft

what is up with Roman Wilson?? Seeing people saying he is healthy, but Steelers are refusing to play him.
He is a late 3rd round pick who has been hurt. Why does everyone think he is in anyway an answer.
I don’t think anyone thinks he is necessarily the answer, they just want to see what he can do. He’s been a healthy scratch for a couple of weeks on a team that needs WR help so people are wondering what’s going on

Been watching breakdowns of Najee, Pickens and Fields and the one thing that has stood out to me in the poor plays is Broderick Jones constantly whiffing, getting beat quickly and a couple times just not knowing his assignment and standing around, looking at the destruction.

People can complain about Pickens effort, or Fields’ reads, but I think the biggest problem this offense has is the injuries to this O line and biggest of all being Fautanu.

I will place a wager now that Jones will be let go as a bust and somehow find success elsewhere.

This is the way

I dunno. He’s got Dan Moore playing better, rookie Frazier looking like a stud, even McCormick doing better than you’d expect… why is Jones’ play sticking out like a sore thumb?

With Aidan O'Connell starting at QB the Steeler's should feast like it's Thanksgiving Day. But if Zamir White has a breakout game. The Steeler's will be in trouble. Zamir has been hot garbage. But the past 2 games the Steeler's D has given up too many rushing yards.

Think the Steelers are bad, try watching the hideous penguins oof. Looked like a minor league team tonight. Horrible time to be a Pittsburgh sports fan

Feel like this is the week that Russ either starts or replaces Fields if the offense doesn't score early.

Way too much negative around a Steelers team with a winning record. Pulling for a positive W this week. After the train wreck prime time game Sunday night, no way does AS roll out another weak game plan. Get the ball to your playmakers!!!! Pickens is going to put on a show.

I didn't get to watch yesterday; do we think Wilson may start next week?

I am hearing we are looking at Hopkins pretty hard. Nothing new on Adams.

Was just talking this with a coworker, personally I think if Russ doesn't start, Fields will be on a short leash. If they get off to another slow start, might be Russ time.

Not saying I agree, just how I think things will play out. The slow starts have not been Fields' fault.

The concerning thing about Fields to me is that he looks to have regressed quite a bit the past 2 weeks. Now that’s not all a coincidence as the O line is decimated (and bad to begin with). But I can’t believe how badly he has missed on some fairly easy throws the past couple weeks. He should have been picked off multiple times. The defense played well but I wonder how much of that is just their opponent. 2 winnable games coming up. I’m expecting 1-1 before they begin the gauntlet.

I will say this though, look at his passing chart for the season -- night and day from Kenny P.

Fields is making the most of this. Did anything think the Steelers were going to be good on offense? Pickens and who again? I just don't understand the hate. He's light years better than the stiffs they've had post Ben. How quickly people forget

100%. I think Fields has been fine. I just wonder if he has been good enough at this point to keep Tomlin from giving Wilson what he was essentially promised. And maybe Wilson makes better decisions and throws, and that makes up for the reduced mobility.

The switch to Russ if that's really true which I have doubts but if Russ is the QB, it's a downgrade for the running game IMHO
That OL is suspect right now and Fields has been making plays

The Monday Morning Gang talks about the Steelers
35 seconds into this video clip on YT you will see Orlovsky talk about "Hidden Yardage" to the tune of 110 yards and breaks it down right on set
I would think Tomlin already understands all this

I'm expecting Russell to be running for his life. This is brilliant you put Russell out against a top 5 defense. With no true 2nd WR and an up and down George Pickens. The line is shaky as it is. This start for Russell if it happens isn't ideal but can further prove that at 36 in November that he is not the short term answer and definitely not the long term answer. IMHO I seriously don't see the Steelers resigning Russell next year. Not at the exorbitant rate that he is use to.

My bigger concern is that Mike T could be splitting the locker room
