2024 Quarterback Class Comparison- Year 2- UPDATED thru Wk. 8 (2 Viewers)

Ok, lets try this again:

I tracked the 2024 QB draft class last year as it was a highly touted and front loaded class with six qb's picked in the first round and Spencer Rattler going in the fifth. JJ McCarthy was on IR so didn't play in 2024 but is starting now in 2025. Top chart is how the players fared at the end of last season, second chart is this season through eight games, third chart is career totals. I'll update occasionally during the season but not weekly.

Woohoo, this time it worked!
Anywho, as we saw with Justin Fields, Sam Darnold, The Jones Brothers (Mac and Danny), et al., teams are no longer just sitting on their hands while a bust high end qb draft pick teeters on sucktitude so my question is which qb gets dumped/moved first?

Maye is a turnover machine while Williams is averaging close to four sack a game both of which are not good. Was surprised by the amount of ints. by Nix.

The picks by Nix are part of a maturation process, IMO. 33 TD/15 INT isn't awful; just means he's airing it out and not letting the INTs impact him too much.

Peyton Manning came into the NFL after a long college career. Different era, sure, but he threw a TON of picks early on. After two full seasons it was 52 TD/43 INT. Heck even in year 4, Manning was 26/23 TD/INT.

Drew Brees was also very uneven to start, including a stretch in San Diego where he was 28 TD/31 INT.

He does need to cut the rate down for sure, but there's a learning curve and you don't want him to start hesitating out there. I think Nix needs to run a little more but that comes with big risks too.

Yeah, I agree with you on Nix, he's a surefire long term Bronco, imo. He's got a good completion percentage and a low sack rate and I would expect he'll improve as the season goes along. He seems like he get's it.

I would think separating 2024 & 2025 might be more informative than just listing career numbers. Year 2 is when we learn how they adapt after putting down a seasons worth of film for DCs to break down.

(y)Good idea. I'll do a three tier setup with 2024,2025 and cumulative. Try and get to it tonight but may be tomorrow.

eta: Made the 2025 season a stand alone so we can chart the progress year over year. What stands out so far this season, with a very small sample size, is Bo Nix is really good about getting rid of the ball as he has more passing attempts and ferew sack, by far, than any of the other qb's. Nix has 25 career sacks while Williams already has 74 and is on his way to 50 so far this season. Caleb Williams needs to be better.

Thru week 5 all the qbs. are holding up ok so far with Nix still leading the pack but potential across the board. Williams has indeed cut down the sacks taken with a total of three in three games while the other four came against the Lions. He's looking better. Maye, on the other hand, looks like a guy that will be around the league awhile but is not upper tier material. He's a gamer but will have turnovers and take sacks because of his aggressive nature. Reminds a bit of Jay Cutler. Rattler is having a quietly efficient season and seems to protect the ball well but he needs to prove he's more than a game manager at this point, imo. Overall still a strong group of picks.

I think it's a great class, and will be the best ever. They've played at most 22 games in the NFL. It takes time to become a star. The list is long of excellent QBs that took 2-3 years to get comfy at the NFL speed and Ds. I guess Caleb is the disappointment because he went #1 and has to be #1 on this list to justify that pick. But his stats aren't all that bad.

If there was a redraft today, I guess I'd go Daniels, Nix, Maye, Williams. But those top 4 could be in any order come 2028.

With Daniels inactive for tonight's game we are current now through week 8 and there is some separation between the haves (Maye, Nix, Daniels), the maybes (Williams), the tweeners (Penix) the have nots (Rattler), and the question mark (Mccarthy).

Rattler was benched for a second rounder after leading the Saints to another sluggish outing and his status going forward is up in the air. Penix, while inactive due to injury, still isn't lighting things up for the Falcons. He isn't turning the ball over and he isn't taking too many sacks but he also is not putting the team in scoring position often enough. Falcons may have a decision to make by seasons end. Mccarthy is still in the starting blocks but looks ready to go so hopefully we can see what he can do the rest of this season.

As for the others, May and Nix are clearly set as their teams qb for the foreseeable future while Daniels, if he can not get injured, also looks good for the Commanders. Williams is still a work in progress, imo, and while he is playing better he still shows signs of not being totally with it as evidenced by the bad int and two intentional groundings against him yesterday.

My current rankings:
Maye
Nix
Daniels

Williams

Penix
Rattler
McCarthy(?)
