2025 College Football Thread: Big 10 exploring private equity for infusion of cash to give to fired head coaches (9 Viewers)

Yeah, because no good/great quarterbacks have off games

:eyeroll:
I’ve seen him play a few times. He should definitely be the heisman front runner. I don’t see how anybody could think he’s top pick worthy but yall can homer up. I don’t care. I’m sure you all were screaming he was a future top pick when he was at Cal last year too lol.

Indiana looks atrocious today. Not impressed with Mendoza.
Projected top pick in the draft?? Idk how.
Is this the first time you've watched him play?
What do you think now?
I don’t think he looks like anybody who should be in the top pick conversation? Why do you think that changed because his WR made a great play?
I think he's in the top pick conversation because I've watched him every game this season and not just a couple of quarters today when his oline was giving him no protection.

Funny, most every year, the drafters think the QBs are super high/top picks

He’s a very good college QB. He may win the Heisman. If my team was picking top-5 and needed a QB this year I wouldn’t be excited by it. Those are all different things. I also said the same thing about Cam Ward last year.

So what are the college rules about catches and the players heel? I remember an NFL game this year where I got a toe tap, but his heal hit the line and they ruled it incomplete. In this case his toe hit but his heel came down before anything else , does that matter? I think his heel was in but it was crazy close.

ETA: this evidently is the toe-heel rule

I think Cignetti has made Mendoza into a good QB that can be average in the NFL like Mac Jones. He's not elite 1.01 overall good. The QB skill set I think I like best is LaNorris Sellers but he still needs a lot of work and not sure he's coming out. Thoughts @Desert_Power ?

Actually watched him quite a bit at Cal, in a tragic commentary on my life. Think his 1st game was against Oregon State and I was impressed. Cal has not been very good in years, but they HAVE produced some decent QBs in Jared Goff and Aaron Rodgers.

Mendoza wanted to go to Yale but opted for Cal. So he's got brains. He's also 6'5" and stacked. Can run quite a bit too. 68% career passer, including Cal, where he had a rough start. Throws one of the prettiest balls you'll ever see and can make all the throws.

I think he could be pretty good.

Joey Harrington broke me. I was convinced he was Joe Montana. :bag:

Also feels like the NFL wants bigger QBs with mobility who can absorb the punishment. Josh Allen, Justin Herbert, Drake Maye, Sam Darnold, Matt Stafford...all 6'3" or more, built solidly and haven't missed a game due to injury. I doubt we see many more Kyler Murray's or Bryce Youngs going 1.01. Too slight and no shock absorption.

I'm rambling. Ducks got a FG? Huzzzzah!

Why does Iowa just refuse to modernize their offense? It’s maddening.
That guy has been there since KURT WARNER won the Super Bowl with the Rams. KURT WARNER. I can’t believe Iowa doesn’t just want a basic refreshing of their staff at this point. It’s insane.

I am the opposite of an Iowa fan, but they have gone 6-2 (Covid), 10-4, 8-5, 10-4, 8-5 the last 5 years not including this one. I think Iowa is OK with that.

ETA: I threw up a little.

Ferentz is 210-126 at Iowa and is the all time leader in Big Ten History for wins.

Pretty successful formula.

They did break an 85 year old record for punting yards in 2023.
