2025 College Football Thread: FSU loses to Stanford in battle of academic powers (10 Viewers)

Horrible refereeing all game long. SC flagged once for 5 yards.

Blatant holds all second half, three tackles by face mask (two ripped Love’s helmet off), and then an obvious grounding goes uncalled.

Conference reffing has to end. It is so atrocious, archaic, and a conflict of interest.

you should only watch recorded ND games, if they win. don't watch the losses. it will add 15 years to your life.

Announcer tonight: There are 6 college football rivalry games that should never be allowed to end.

What six would you have?
UM-tOSU
Bama-Auburn
Texas-OU

Those are obvious. I’m sure I’m missing some obvious or regional ones, but nationally those makes sense.

I know it was under the context of ND-SC and I love the series but can admit it isn’t near the pure hatred of those above. It’s a long standing series of two teams who’ve maintained a heated rivalry in spite of geography, which might make it make even more sense for a special consideration for inclusion on the list.

Army v Navy should make the list of 6

They had Army-Navy, and the 3 from Jayded. And USC-ND.

The final one I was kind of shuked on what it was going to be. I went with the Civil War.

They had Florida-Georgia. Guess I didn't even know that was a particular rivalry.

I tried to think of national significance, like a good majority of people would notice.

Most people know if you say “Red River Rivalry” what that means or how much UM/tOSU hate one another. Army/Navy was an obvious miss for me.

While I know games like the Egg Bowl are big for people there, it makes me wonder how much nationally would know or care if it was gone. Figured that might he’s the most apt measuring stick.

May be viewed as too regional but the Third Saturday in October is pretty special. I know a lot of people who would pull for Auburn before Tennessee.

Yep! SC hasn’t won in South Bend since 2011. Even with the domination, I really hope they keep the rivalry game going. Most SC fans do actually.
That avatar brings tears of joy to these eyes.

I do hope thay SC wins out from here. Need to make our playoff bid as strong as possible.

UcLA wins again, this time a tough battle with Maryland. Bruins offense struggled through most of the game but the defense was terrific. And Nico came through in the final minutes.

This is the most amazing turnaround of a football team I can ever remember. Less an a month ago I was speculating on a winless season. I think that the current coaching staff might have to stick around.

ETA But of course next week is Indiana.

Ha. Nah. As I’ve gotten older I can truly watch without it ebbing or flowing too much anymore. I expect the kids to be kids and make errors and it’s part of the charm.

That said, calling out the adults on the field is fair game. I’m glad we won, but there needs to be an overhaul in college football refereeing.

Six rivalries?

Red River
Ohio St Michigan
Iron Bowl
Army Navy

Those 3 feel like a clear tier above anything else. Other ones that stand out or seem memorable to me:

Harvard Yale
Florida Georgia
Civil War (Oregon Oregon St)
Washington Oregon (this is apple cup right? Or is that Border War or something?)
Notre Dame USC
Stanford Cal
Notre Dame Michigan
Bedlam

Im sure someone will name one and I'll be like oh yeah that too! But these are the ones that have tended to register for me pre and post going to college.

The city game. UCLA vs USC. Both teams wear home jerseys. Crowd is 50/50. Trojan fans will tell you they care about Notre Dame more but they’re lying.

This is how a defense makes you forget a bad week.
Congrats.

Jedd Fisch philosophy backfires, it was a matter of time. They start so slow EVERY game. Time for him to realize as much and adapt. Cut the kid loose for crying out loud. Come out and let that kid fling it and run (how many designed runs today??) and try and take teams out. He thinks grinding teams down is the way with their big RB and solid backup but this isn’t the Pac 12. Hello, utilize your best player in the first half for ****’s sake, THEN run your big boy all you want. Christ.

Williams has bailed him out all year, not today.
UW doesn’t have the talent on either line of scrimmage to beat a good team on the road (Michigan) or a very good team at home (Ohio State.)

And Demond Williams Jr isn’t ready for prime time against good teams. I think he’ll get there but not yet.

Whoa. So finebaum was right? Herbstreet gonna lose it next week?
What’s this about?

Billy Napier has been relieved of his duties as a head coach at university of Florida.

Like putting a dog down, this was coming for a while.

Florida's recent coaching hires have been horrible. Now what do they do?
Prepare for basketball season...

Im not entirely on the Kiffin Bandwagon. I wonder if Mike Gundy is washed up. Would bring a Spurrier like feel to the program.
Im also, wondering if Gruden should be a consideration.
Franklin seems too similar to Napier.

One name that always comes up among longtime gator fans is Kerwin Bell. He's a legend and has had success (especially offensively) everywhere he coaches. Albeit, at D2 level.
