2025 College Football Thread: Jordon leaves Belichick for Sonny Dykes (16 Viewers)

They could still win this but I didn’t get the Clemson hype this summer. Saw 4-5 people this week take them to win the title. This is largely the same team that just got smoked by Texas in December, had 4 total losses and didn’t really use the portal or change a whole lot. Klubnik has always been just a guy.
Could have used your input in here a couple weeks ago. Didn't know enough to definitely say the things about the QB but the rest sure seems accurate. I'll be shocked if they are top three at the end of the year.

Defense does look pretty strong though. Enjoying that both of these squads are hitting hard.

Klubnik hasn’t been great, but the whole offense has been letting him down too - OL play is bad, WRs are dropping catchable passes , and no semblance of a run game

I’m not really an expert on CFB at this point it just made no sense to me without significant additions. Idk why anybody thinks Klubnik is any good. Their defense is fierce though.

I don't know if Klubnik is any good but his receivers haven't helped at all tonight.

:towelwave:Lets GOOOOOO LIU vs Florida 🐊

Florida -45.5......pffft :ptts:we're gonna roll them!

(full disclosure, I'm a LIU alumni and may daughter goes there now. She dances for the college and they perform at home games. I've watched a lot of LIU football and I think a good varsity squad could outplay them lol)
this was the most shocking matchup on the ticker today

was not aware you guys had a football program

Michigan won't have their best LB for the first half next week because, reasons
Targeting?. Good reason.
That was the call. Tackle was just like 5 or 6 others. Like the one that just happened with the offsides.
Every team is gonna have these kinds of calls against them. When they try to nerf the full speed efforts of a defensive player doing their job you're gonna get these lame flags.

Barham is a stud and losing him for a half on the road against Oklahoma isn't awesome, but there is a lot to be excited about. Young team that's going to go through growing pains and make mistakes, but the potential is something to get excited about.

Underwood looks like the real deal, he's gonna be a real problem for everyone once he settles in and gets a little more experience. That block was exactly what i want to see from a Michigan player. This team looks ready to hit you in the mouth. Big test next week on the road for the young guys.

Oh, I'm not poo pooing on your boys. They are on the right track it seems. My point was mostly that they punished that QB during that game and there were far more aggressive/worse hits than the one that kid got called for. I guess they should feel lucky that they didn't have more players called for targeting?

I know, I didn't take it that way. It's hard for a defender is all. It was probably the right call with the rules the way they are. I have to hand it to that kid, Michigan was playing aggressive maybe too aggressive, but they'll settle down. He took some shots and kept getting up for more. Lots of respect for his toughness.

How long before Kalen DeBoer gets fired?
Feel bad for the guy (accept for the millions of dollars he has made)!

It may have played out this way with anyone taking Saban’s place but I didn’t think it would end well for Deboer at Bama (accept for the millions of dollars he has made).

I doubt he lasts there long term but who do they realistically go after to replace him? Would Lanning leave Oregon now?
Don't feel too bad for him. His buyout is something like $70M. He would never have to coach again. Then again, maybe he shouldn't.

Bama should go get a Manning. Surely there is a cousin or something

I had to go look the rule up. This is the text this year for anyone interested. I guess the bold is what got flagged. Though, to be fair, I don't think that play is given a second thought if they weren't reviewing for a turnover.

Targeting (NCAA Rule 9-1-3 & 9-1-4): Targeting happens when a player forcibly hits an opponent with the crown of the helmet or makes forcible contact to the head or neck area of a defenseless opponent. Defenseless players include quarterbacks in throwing motion, receivers trying to catch a pass, kick returners, and players on the ground.
Indicators of targeting are things like launching upward into a player, leading with the helmet, forearm, fist, hand, or elbow to the head/neck, or lowering the head to initiate contact with the crown of the helmet.

On targeting, it has been
It was a total cupcake match up no doubt, but USC should be ranked this coming week.
Hey, hey, hey.....take it easy on the MO State Bears. They went from being a middle of the pack FCS program to a mid-major FBS conference with some sub-par facilities and a coach whose only strongest qualification is who his father-in-law is.

From what I have seen today college football is underwhelming in 2025

It has been for 2-3 years. IMO the quality of play is the big issue. It has dropped mostly due to lack of chemistry as players and coaches switch teams. Only 8-10 programs seem capable of overcoming it. Currently prepping to watch the Hokies (a program that can't overcome it) get slaughtered by Shane Beamer later today. :wall:

Not to be forgotten:

Tommy Castellanos with a Hall of Fame calling his shot. That was some wild smack talk he backed up.

Was it really that wild?

Since 2007, in games when Alabama was favored by at least 14 points:

Nick Saban was 131-2
Kalen DeBoer is 4-4
Saban knew the deal. He flat out said it. Once the monopolization of talent was forcibly removed everything changed. For him that disrupted two things very important to his philosophy.

1. Players buying into the system and developing
2. Localized talent monopolies

I know early season rankings are far from the be-all/end-all, but after their week 1 performances I think there is a decent chance that both FSU and USF will be ranked in the top 25 next week.

If that happens, that will mean 9 of Florida's 11 remaining games would be against teams currently ranked in the top 25

Localized talent monopolies is just a fancy way of saying "bagmen"

Weaponized memes now for nil
Wouldn't be able to make a dime off it if they didn't win.

Generally you don't want to create bulletin board material but reportedly it seems this rallied the FSU team around him.

With the win, there are plenty of FSU fans that will be buying up that merch. Good for him.

Ha...partly. I was thinking of the honey pots of talent. That's a natural occurrence and when you don't have to go far away from home, its a huge benefit. You can focus on many other things instead. The bagmen certainly helped keep them maintained to an extent.

QBs making first or first big starts are looking shaky across the board : Sayin, Manning, Simpson. Now I'm starting to worry a bit about CJ Carr and tomorrow evening. ND coaches better have a solid gameplan at a tough venue for a first time starter and today is really showing why.

How did Sayin look shaky? I thought he looked great. He didn't put up huge numbers because they (correctly) played super conservative on offense, but he seemed poised, made good decisions, and was accurate with his passes. He completed 65% of his passes, but it would have been 80% without three drops that were right in the receivers' hands. His only real "bad" throw was the touchdown. The throw to Tate out of the end zone with the defender bearing down on him was great. He is going to be special.

About the only thing we know about Sayin is he was qbing an offense that benefitted from 5 turnovers basically and had 14 points to show for it. It really looked like they told him "don't lose it for us"

Pretty low bar, but he cleared it.

SC can make noise this year if this Sellars kid can stay healthy

SC has come a long ways. The program is looking solid overall. Nobody can can judge anything when playing VT though. Other than paying Drones like $1.4M to stick around (so I've heard), our NIL consortium is very weak. Im surprised he stayed. He had higher offers with teams that would have given him more weapons. Apparently really likes it at VT. Wish we had some talent around him
