2025 College Football Thread: Taylor Swift demonstrates true love to fiancee by attending Big 12 football game (5 Viewers)

I think it can be both, right?

The level of cheating Michigan did was kind of meh. Doesn't seem like a huge thing that created a big competitive advantage. Did it have any actual effect? Maybe. And if it did, probably a pretty small one.

That said, the margins in wins/losses are often very small. "A game of inches" and all that, games often come down to one play, so even a 1% boost in competitive advantage can make a difference in winning a natty versus not even competing for one, by changing just a few plays.

BUT

All of Michigan's tough/close games in 2023 were AFTER the scandal came out. It's not like their 31-6 win over Bowling Green or their 45-7 win over Nebraska would have been in doubt if people had stopped them from filming sidelines earlier. All the games that mattered that year were after everything came out, so it's extremely unlikely it would have changed anything.

But then back to the flippity other side, they did break the rules, the results of the season have definitely changed the consequences to getting caught breaking the rules, even if breaking those rules like didn't impact the final result of the season. If Michigan had gone 9-3 that year, they probably would have vacated those early wins and called it a day. But because they won the Big 10 and the CFP that year, that very standard consequence for a transgression of this nature was avoided.

It's like losing a legal case on a technicality. The lawyer mishandles or follows the wrong procedure for submitting evidence that proves the case, and it gets thrown out causing them to lose the case on a technicality, even though no one can truly "forget" that evidence and knows that in reality that lawyer's side of the case was the correct one.

In this case, Michigan flubbed and created that technicality, but it wasn't applied.

I have a hard time believing an 11-1 Michigan is going to be ranked 18.

Maybe I’m wrong but I think he’s saying, that #18 is UM’s preseason rank but they will end up being 11-1????

Ah. I'm stupid. My bad.

Can’t believe Auburn claiming all those fake titles didn’t get mentioned here. In 2004 that’s all this thread would have talked about for weeks. Come back @bagger

Lots of focus on how Michigan cheating is meaningfully different than everyone else cheating. Gotta have your priorities straight Capella.

The deep south trying to console itself with false narratives after devastating losses has been going on since 1865. It's how they cope with "Lost Cause" affliction.

:lmao:

:goodposting:

I guess someone said something about the B1G inventing football or some such and it really triggered the poor old coot and now he's on a rampage. Between him, SAS and Meyer, they'll get it all figured out and justice for all.

I won't even claim to understand the distinction being made, but isn't the horse out of the barn already?

I wish I would have bought a ring they made and were selling.

Making my split champion USC/FSU ring for 2025. Going to be amazing!

SAS says the same thing. You guys are in good company. Wonder if Paul would acknowledge the "stolen" titles by the SEC during the bagman years. I'm thinking no.
Paul Finebaum is a hypocritical idiot.

I allow that not everyone’s experience is the same in life, but I know just enough—and have had specific personal experience with certain aspects of southern society that intersect with universities, organizations, and scholastics—that I just give that whole noise a free pass and let better men address it.

At some point the SEC will just expand to 32 teams, play a bunch of FCS teams for non conference games then create their own playoff where the winner is the mega supreme champion of the universe where they will unilaterally declare themselves the best team in college sports, and better than 1/3 of the NFL.

Cloud of myopia down there.

McShay has OU as the 12th best team. Unfortunately they play like 4 of the other 11 best teams I think. (Texas Bama LSU SC). And also Auburn and Tennessee and Ole Miss and Mizzou. Jesus Christ.

WTF?!?!?!! :lmao:

We saw Byron Leftwich part 2 and a kicker who learned to kick off youtube and this thread is on page two on the first day of real games?
passively watched this game last night. did it also feel to you like the announcers were a HS booth that got pulled in at the last minute because CBS couldn't get anyone else to call the game?

You didn’t mention the best team they are going to play. Week 2.
We play some crappy Big Ten team week 2. Should be an awesome tailgate but I don't have high hopes for an exciting game. If they lose to that team...they're probably a 4-6 loss team again and Venables may be out.

Seems like a lot of work when you can just pick when you are champion. Alabama and Auburn seem to have figured this out already.

Yes. They were terrible. I will also ask all of you if you have problem with audio while watching ABC? It is REALLY low for me. This has been a couple years now for me. I thought it might be my affiliate when I was in Nashville, but I have since moved to FL and the problem persists.

Yes. I thought it was my local affiliate too. Busy weekend so i missed the games, but I've noticed this kind of thing for awhile now.

They need to get that crap fixed. Watching LLWS yesterday, changed the channel and got blasted out of the house. Is it because they have SAS on yelling all the time or something?

Ohio State banning Portnoy from coming into the stadium for Big Noon Kickoff. Is this because he's a Michigan guy or something else? Weird.

Classic :lmao:

Not a fan of Portnoy, but really, not letting him in the stadium? Really setting the tone for that toughness they've been missing. Soft as baby ****. Imagine worrying about Dave Portnoy with Texas on deck. Go Hook Em Horns.

I can’t stand the guy but it is an awful look for Day (and the Buckeyes) whether he had anything to do with it or not. No real reason given that I can see so it’s probably just being petty. Day can’t seem to get out of his own way when it comes to UM.

Is this the equivalent of Michigan telling herbstreit he can’t come in the stadium?

Probably more like Urban, but still :lmao: I welcome Urban with open arms. Love hearing him drowned out with boos.
