2025 Detroit Lions: 0-0 HOF Game on tape, as DC said..."We got work to do" (88 Viewers)

Had to work, so a little late on catching up. Some thoughts:

1) Have to hope that Hock is okay. Suddenly a great time for a bye between that and the injuries on D (especially DB).

2) Speaking of which,  D played well. Final score might make you wonder, but 0 TDs for Mahomes is a feat onto itself. They let him (and KC in general) run too much and could rarely get enough pressure, but considering the missing pieces, it was a great performance. Punching their way into turnovers >.>

3) Refs WAAAAAY too involved. Not that KC wasn't trying to hand the game away, but Golladay getting Calvin'd and then the return TD make it look like the Refs took the game away from the Lions.

4) Is there such a thing as an encouraging loss? Maybe not, but since I was figuring KC would bury them by 14+, coming within 30 secs of winning both stings and gives some hope. Having to kick FGs hurts, but then again, the Chiefs were forced to try 3 themselves. Instead of being outclassed, they fell just short. Refs or no, they had their chances. 4th and 8. Coleman inches away from an INT in the end zone.

Lions 2-1-1 into the bye, which is slightly better than most hoped for (and much better than some predicted). Gotta get healthy and hope GB is still without Adams Week 6. Long road ahead. Giants don't look like a cakewalk anymore, but that's partially because Redskins look like more of one. NFC North currently 7-2-1 in interdivision games so the next two games will tell us a lot.

That is the most heart I have even seen a Lion team play with.  They played hard and smart (minus the TD return).  You need to play through the whistle regardless if you are 99 percent sure the play is over.

this team suddenly looks legit I never thought I'd say that.Matt Stafford is playing his tail off! he has become a must start fantasy QB

Bears fan here. If Slay is active and that Kerryon fumble return for a TD doesnt happen, you guys win that game... and that would be impressive.

Most predictions had them at 1-3 going into the bye, so 2-1-1 isn't bad. They have scored 97 and given up 95, more like a 2-2 team.

Actually really proud of the team yesterday. Without Slay, Hand, Daniels, lost Diggs first quarter, Patricia game plans the D every week for the oppo really well I’d say. Him and Quinn have drafted and acquired players massively based on versatility and intelligence and it’s beginning to show. All the front D players and LBs can play any scheme and interchange with each other, meaning we can give any type of O a hard time.

Stafford was great as well. Struggling with a hip, yet he was fired up and feeling it - love when he trucked over two players then jumped up and got in the face of the third defender, and when he was just standing there with his arms in the touchdown motion for what seemed like a full minute. Fingers crossed he finally has an experienced OC that can get us running , create play action and give him deep shots.

The refs - meh, the Golladay TD looked like a TD to me but more importantly it was so marginal that the on field call usually doesn’t get overruled. Weird. There’s been some post game clips as well of Snacks facemasked at the TD they ran in and one of our guys blatantly PI’d on the Hail Mary. I wonder if Patricia hadn’t had a rejected challenge if he should have been challenging on that PI Still you have to work through these things.

I honestly believe we are the most rounded team in the NFC North. Whether we can translate that into wins is another thing, but for the time being I can actually see us having a chance of winning the division. We have to use the promise we’ve shown this far  and  the bye week to get healthy and give two weeks game planning for the Packers and come out week 6 and beat them. If we are going to be successful this season it has to start with a win there as I’m pretty sure the Packers are false economy and we are better than them

I went to the game yesterday and have never heard Ford Field so loud.  It was an entertaining game and one the Lions could have won.

Key point...Lions receiver interfered with in end zone was not challenged even though they were showing it on the big screen.  Next play Stafford fumbles so they came away with nothing.   The fumble on the goal line, even on replays I could not see the ball come out.  That was a 14 point swing.

I usually bash the Lions but not today, they battled and played hard and I thought deserved better yesterday.

think only the booth can request a PI review in last two minutes....

To come within one 4th & 8 play to knocking off an undefeated Super Bowl favorite is quite a big deal to me.

This was a plant your flag game to the NFC North. If a loss could ever feel like a win, this was it.

Im a 25 yr lion fan and i can honestly say i never seen the team play like that in my life time, they could of crumbled and packed it up after the strange fumble return or the td call on Golladay but man i saw a team not willing to bend the knee to a powerhouse SB contender all game. The lions were running at will and Stafford was dropping lazer beams in a 2x2 window between 4 defenders on a dime.

Im not gonna jump the gun cause what i saw from them last season and the start of the Arizona game this year, but if they play like this the rest of the season my view on the BQ + MP regime will change quickly.

I have given this team plent of crap and well deserved but i am very impressed with what i am seeing from them the past 3 weeks now.

Oddly enough the Bevell hire looks like its gonna turn out better then i imagined, i thought a more air raid up tempo style was the way to go on offense but Stafford is thriving in this play action tempo perfectly, this team needs consistency with the run to make this work however.

If I’m reading this correctly, everyone is healthy and practiced today except Daniels. That means we should see the debut of Hand on Monday. Based on how good his rookie year was and how good he looked when he was practicing in camp, he could be a major difference maker.

Booger McFarland nailed it.  Pure robbery.  The bad calls need to be reviewed as they are costing teams games.

Even though there were 2 horrible calls in the 4th quarter, 3 counting the missed PI on Jones. Stafford was totally off target in the second half.

As posted in the topic, plenty to get after the Lions in this one.

Early FGs when 21-0 would've buried the Packers for good. Predictable running. Mental errors, most noticeably the 12 men. Letting Rodgers largely get comfortable in the pocket.

But two games in a row, I can't help but think that the refs dictated who won as much as anything. And it wasn't the Lions. Still a great chance to win the next 3 and salvage things, but fate, mandate and refball point towards mediocrity. Deserved or not.

8-9 for 168 first quarter

10-23 for 97 the rest of the game

I just can’t invest in this anymore for just now. Going to set my lineups each week and go out and do something productive with my Sundays, absolutely no way I’m spending 4 hours watching refs completely ruin the game whether it’s nefarious and not. Just too many years of it. It’s either corrupt or just so inept it’s unbearable. Which one of the two it is almost doesn’t matter, the end result is the same.

I don’t have a horse in this race, but my opinion is your OC blew the game. Never let Johnson get into a flow. Every time he got a first down carry he was falling forward for a yard average. Every second down it seems a dumb ### play would be called for the fullback or one of the 13 TEs Detroit uses. Stupid.

You can bring up all you want in terms of what Detroit could have done better, like you could do in any game BUT what they were doing WAS better than what the Packers were doing. Without the bs refs it was enough to win on the night, and that is that.

think I’m going to stick to watching the Red Wings for the foreseeable future. All hail Stevie Z

Sorry Detroit, that was absolutely pitiful.  You can say what you want about what they could've done to win the game in the 2nd half but the fact of the matter is this is a Lions W if the refs don't make those astonishingly bad calls.

I am sick of hearing "We are concerned about Johnsons work load, we need to limit his touches because he gets hurt easily" Johnson injury last year was a fluke like many injuries are.  It is the NFL and it happens.  Give the guy the dam ball!!  Although that dropped pass did hurt.

I was at the game yesterday and focused on Trey Flowers quite a bit.  Not sure what he really does that is outstanding.   Flowers just bull rushes every play, no spin moves, no explosive bursts around the OT, no need to double team him as he is not a threat for a sack.   I guess he is OK in the run game.  Flowers is getting paid like an elite DE and he is not even close to that..he just looks like a system type of player.

I know Ziggy could not stay healthy but at least he could impact a game when he was.  Just don`t see that in Flowers at all.

I often forget he is on the team. That's what kind of impact he is having.

The result you could see coming a mile off. I was pleased and surprised that the offence came out looking fired up from the week before though, and tried to hang in there for a lot of the game but the defence just gave us nothing. There’s two main things ailing us just now

D-line and  the lack of pressure/RunD  - I can at least explain this one away a little. We are clearly missing Hand and Daniels in the interior in terms of pass rush. Doesn’t feel like we’ve ever had all four fit at the same time Hand/Snacks/Robinson/Daniels and I’m not sure when we might. Hand should return next week but have we lost Snacks now ? What has happened to our run D ??

Fair enough we game planned for mobile QBs to not rush so much and try contain them but Cousins is the definition of a QB who is great when he feels comfortable but can properly fold under some pressure. Bad game plan or were the personnel just not on the field to be able to muster anything ?

O-line and the run game - I put the problems with this down to JBC and Oline coaching given the picks and money that has been spent here. Then we get an OC that has a history of running the ball well. At this point I can’t for the life of me explain it. Ragnow and Glasgow are top rated on PFF at their positions apparently. Decker is ok and we have Wagner. What’s going on here ? Are they all to a man just better at pass pro than run blocking ?

Tough division, close margins, a few tough losses. This felt like the first one where one side of our team just didn’t turn up at all and had a proper bad week. It still feels like we are close to being a very good team but with how strong the Packers and Vikes also are, we’ve come out of those games just on the wrong side and it all amounts to being completely adrift in terms of the season.

I could see us going on a little run now with Giants, Raiders, Bears x 2 coming up soon, but we’re already too far behind.

Haven’t lost faith in the coaching or GM yet, as long as we keep winning our fair share of games this season. Bears and particularly Vikes are right  up against the cap in the next couple of years and we have some room and a young core.

Just frustrating that we have never been able to get both sides of the ball going well at the same time in recent years. I wish we had had Bevell and not full frontal Lombardi, the year our D was dominant and we went out to the Cowboys in playoffs, for instance.

Thursday Night: Host NYG who have lost 3 straight and haven't looked as good as Detroit in the 3 games the Lions have lost this season, let alone the games they have won.

2 Weeks: @Oak, they can win that game.

4-3-1 halfway thru the season...

Then they have Chicago and Dallas, they can beat both of those teams but a split seems like an easier projection.

5-4-1

Skins Bucs, and Broncos are half of the remaining schedule at that point. They earn a split with GB and MN...

9-6-1 if they lose to Chicago down the stretch, 10-5-1 if they can win a couple tougher ones and handle their business vs lesser teams.

They're far from out this year. Neither of those scenarios will likely get them in as a wildcard but it would seem they are getting better not worse.

They are not going anywhere with that defense.

Unfortunately this teams season is done; barring a miraculous run of 8-1 to finish out.

2-4-1 isn't going to get it done to start the season.

It sucks going to the Thanksgiving day game when you already know the Lions season is over... but I guess that's part of the Thanksgiving tradition at this point........ :banned:

They were handling Green Bay just fine, they had AZ for 3.5 quarters, they should really be 4-2 but they're not. This team is trying to get over the hump, I understand fan frustration.
That is true, but they easily could have lost to the Card, Eagles and really had no business winning the Charger game so it does work out.

Before this week I was actually optimistic, but the defense really does nothing good enough.  Zero pressure on the QB and they hardly ever blitz.  In the GB game the only time they sacked Rogers is when he went down on his own after 10 seconds with nobody open.

One thing though it is not Stafford, he is playing good enough.

Stafford has career highs in numerous categories this season, last years down turn was a blip for him across the last four years and can probably be put down to injury and the final death knell of JBC

The Lions just traded Quandre Diggs.

And Darius Slay, Snacks, and I'm sure other players are NOT happy about it.
I would think their last absolutely abysmal performance would be the first thing they are not happy about.  But when it comes to the lions, I guess that's what I get for thinking.

Either Quinn is a total idiot for recently extending a guy who’s totally expendable or Quinn is a total idiot for trading a 26 year old starting safety for peanuts.

Clearing cap room for a different trade ? Will Harris performing similar for much less money ?

Damn, I loved Diggs, always have since he stepped in during the game and made his debut in our first win in Lambeau field in years, due to injuries to other CBs
