2025 Detroit Lions: 1-1 Lion crush Da Bears. Still seats available on the Bandwagon. (181 Viewers)

I believe this is the updated list of the Lions ten draft picks:

 ROUND 1

No. 2

No. 31 or 32 (Via Rams)

ROUND 2

No. 34

ROUND 3

No. 66

No. 97 (Compensatory Pick)

ROUND 4

None

ROUND 5

No. 176 (Compensatory Pick)

ROUND 6

No. 180

No. 217 (Compensatory Pick)

Round 7

No. 230

No. 238
From 97 to 176 is a long time to go without picks and there are good players available in that range. I think Holmes would like to maneuver his way back into that range to have some flexibility in the draft.

Really rooting for Stafford. He was a good soldier on some rough teams.
True, the Lions are a historically bad organization that hasn't won anything in 60 years no matter who was on the team. Scapegoating one player is totally missing the big picture, especially when other teams seem to have little problem winning with such players.

Matthew Stafford, Super Bowl Champion

Detroit with pick #32.

What's not to love? >.>
Time to pay the piper for Stafford's success. Hope we do not get burned on a guy who who would have been available earlier. Stafford winning the SB is a nice consolation prize but having the higher draft pick was more important to the Lions success.

Last season 4 former Detroit Lions won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay: Ndamukong Suh, Pat O’Connor, Jeremiah Ledbetter, and Drew Stanton. They joined a long list of former Ford family employees who got a ring with another team that includes Kyle Van Noy, Cliff Avril, Charlie Batch, Willie Green and Eddie Murray.

ETA: the late Errol Mann also won a Super Bowl with the John Madden Oakland Raiders.

2022 roster of Allen Park escapees:

  • KR Brandon Powell had 6 receptions for 103 in a Week 17 31-0 win @ Green Bay filling in for injured (lol) Kenny Golladay. After spending 2019 & 2020 on/off the Falcons practice squad, and being cut by the Bills in 2021 at the end of TC, he was called up by the LAR December 5th. Returned a punt for a TD Week 16. Now a Super Bowl champion.
  • 6th year DT A'Shawn Robinson - washed out of Detroit after being drafted in the 2nd round in 2016 - had 67 tackles, 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles as a starter on the Rams D line. In 4 playoff games, 35 tackles, 1 sack and 1 FF. SB Champ.

Lions had a big part.    Stafford of course, Ashawn Robinson who Lions let walk was a beast in the middle of the line last night.

Biggest was Aaron Donald.  All the pundits thought the Lions would draft Donald as Suh had no interest in siging a long term deal   Mayhew took Eric "Butterfingers" Ebron instead of Donald.

The Ebron pick in reality ended up costing Mayhew his job.  Lions were on the cusp at that time.  adding Donald and who knows.  Mayhew would still be GM, Lewand still be President, and Jim Caldwell would still be HC.

Heard yesterday on The Ticket that the Lions were minutes away from taking Carolinas offer for Stafford before Rams upped their offer.

#8 overall last year and Teddy Bridgewater. Could have had Sewell and Parsons or Fields.

Like that better than the unknown at 32 this year?

I doubt the season would have worked out as well for Stafford though.

The Rams parade was the weakest parade ever for a Championship team.

More people would show up in Detroit if Stafford had a parade next week.

If the Lions ever won a Superbowl they would not be able to handle the crowds.

The National Guard would be on standby in Detroit during the game.

Ebron was one of the worst Lions draft picks of all time and it was easy to see from the college tape. 7 future Pro Bowlers in a row were drafted immediately after Ebron. All would have been better picks. And yes even Ebron had 1 Pro Bowl season too after leaving the Lions. That said, there were a lot of bad picks in the 2014 draft rounds 1 and 2. For example, 52 players were drafted ahead of Davante Adams. It was a strange draft overall that was deep in WR, maybe one of the best classes ever. But a total minefield at other positions.

By cutting Trey Flowers, the Lions can save $10.4M in cap space.

2019: 62 pressures, 7 sacks
2020 & 2021: 19 pressures, 3.5 sacks

Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn somehow were able to set the worst franchise in the NFL even further back. Special pair.
Ernie Accorsi steered this special pair to the Lions. He also helped steer Ryan Pace to the Bears and Klingsbury to Cards.

Thibby leaving early because it was a long day at combine throws further doubt as to whether he is motivated to succeed. Dont know all the circumstances but sounded diva like.

Watching on the NFL network the 40s and how they match up players.   It was Hutch Thibby, and Walker from Georgia.   Walker, was the fastest in the 40, Thibby 2 and Hutch 3 at 4.74.

But Hutch had a 1 yard lead on both of them at 10 yards.  Thats all that matters for DEs.
In a lot of cases that first 10 split is the better comparison, especially with linemen.

I'll take the guy with short arms over the guy with the short motor.

Don`t count out Walker. Holmes will not have local bias.

Travon Walker, EDGE, Georgia

Walker tested like an elite athlete. After impressing during the weigh-in at 6-5, 272 pounds with an 84 1/4 inch wingspan, the Georgia product ran a 4.50 second 40-yard dash and had a very good 6.89 second 3-cone drill. His explosiveness and agility tested off the charts all night. His movement skills were smooth through the on-field portion of the night. Given his size and athleticism, I could understand why a team would be inclined to take a chance on him over Michigan's Aidan Hutchinson or any other edge rusher in this class. I do not envision him getting out of the top 10 in the 2022 NFL Draft.

What Lions got for Stafford pales in comparison with what Seahawks got for Wilson. Particularly with taking on Goff's contract. Both will be 34 this year.

Seahawks likely will be going after Willis or Pickett and I would think Willis would be the preference.

Perhaps Lions may benefit through Denver wanting to move up to get past Carolina. Denver has the draft choices to do so.

Rodgers new 4 year K makes it more difficult for Lions.

One thing I think Rodgers relies on his legs more than Brady, Manning and Brees did in their later years and I can see 2-3 years from now more of a possibility of his play going downhill. Also his cap hit will be more in those later years.

Plus I think the diva is due for a comeuppance but probably that's wishful thinking.

All true, but Wilson had that ring from before.  But just like Stafford with the Rams  he is their missing piece.

The more interest in this QB field the better for the Lions, about the only way for the trade down scenario.

True and Stafford had the back issues as well.

Seahawks though could also just wait till next year's draft to get their QB. Can see what they have in Lock and pick from next years reported better crop of QBs. Plus they will have 2 number one picks next year and their own should be a high one as they rebuild.

With Jax tagging their left tackle today, there is a solid chance Jax could take Hutch. Valenti on 97.1 suggested an option I actually like a lot.

Lions go sign a top end FA DE and then draft Jordan Davis at 2. I’m a fan of this idea. Add two studs to the DLine and take BPA at 32 & 34. If 32 or 34  are defensive players the entire D is transformed this offseason.

Hard to not like Davis, he is taller and faster than Aaron Donald and weighs 60lbs more.

Georgia could have 3 defenders taken in round 1 and more in round 2. No wonder Michigan could not do anything on offense.

Goff value go up or down today?
“No answer is still an answer”

Goff doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things. He played awful much of the first half of the season and decent the second half.

There are lots of needs to fill and QB isn’t one of them. They’ll figure next off-season if they want to move on kr not (likely will but he’s the QB this year.)

Hes a placeholder. But this year is probably the wrong draft class to look for a franchise QB.

You all have a sweet deal at 32 and 34 with Jax sandwiched in between, I love No 34 being any QB that slips into the 2nd round that Detroit thinks has value or use that pick if a number of them are still on the board and slide back a few spots and then grab someone, even a back up for Goff in '22, sit and learn and have his bleed listening to Dan Campbell imploring his defense to bite some knee caps.

I think there are a couple gems in this bunch, Pickett is flying up my board, love that teams are down on him, could be a smoke screen. Steelers at No 20 might want him. And I understand Pickett is not on everyone's list.

I know there has been zero traffic around this, but I've been thinking more and more.  What if Detroit packaged their 1 and the Ram's two firsts for Deshaun Watson?  Maybe throw in Trey Flowers or something as well since they are just planning on releasing him anyway.

ETA: I guess they'd have to throw Goff in there as his salary is just too much.

It’s tempting but I think it puts us right back where we were with Stafford; a franchise QB and little around him. Lions have so many needs I personally prefer they attempt to fill those needs with the picks we have this year and see where we stand after this season. If the picks pan out and they are on the door step, take the two firsts next year and maybe ‘24 picks and make a move to get someone...who, I don’t know, so I see the argument for going after a player like Watson but I just don’t think we are there yet.

Watson is an elite QB and only 26 so it's a little different than Stafford.  I'm not sure if it's the way to go even if Watson didn't have the baggage he does, but it's an intriguing thought with of Watson behind Detroit's great O-line.  If they could sign a FA WR or two that offense could really go.  Load up on S and LB in the second/third round, etc.

I kind of hope we make no effort to address QB this year.

Keep building it the right way. We all know Goff is not the long term solution, but getting that piece doesn't put us ANY closer to building a team that is ready for a deep run. Plus, remote as it may seem, there is a non-zero chance Goff would be a capable QB is they surrounded him with a great D and some weapons (O line is probably their biggest strength rn.)

BTW Trey Flowers got cut, right? That contract made him untradeable. I imagine that's gonna be the case with jared as well. There have been a number of articles of late about creating another $17M of cap space by restructuring Goff again. IDK how to feel about that tbh. My dream scenario rn would be outright cut him after the start of the next league year, post FA & draft, but before June 1. Take the one time hit and move on.

But that's a long way off. Who knows, maybe a year from now we think he's our guy. Odds are not more than 10%?

This offseason I hope Holmes keeps adding pieces to the D and the receiving corps but leaving the most important piece until after we are further along in the rebuild.

Pointless exercise for the most part but I love playing with the trade calculator. This would be a trade for Philly picks.

2-66-97 for their 15-16-19

That would give lions 5 of the top 34 picks. Problem is who would Philly want at 2.

I love running through those draft scenario generators where accept or counter offer at every pick. Ya know Holmes could probably turn those 9 picks into 15 or 17 if he were as aggressive as I am.

There are reports they are getting offers for Cox and if they could replace him with a younger/cheaper guy AND get picks well before #66 in part of a package for Cox I could see it happening. His contract is a problem but he's shown a willingness to restructure over the years and would likely do so again if it meant landing on a legit contender. This is a good draft to try to replace him if you are the Eagles. If you are PHI and ended up with either Hutchison/Thibodeaux AND Wyatt/Davis/Leal/Mathis/ETC I would think you would be very happy. Graham is 33 and only played 2 games last year so they will really need to replace both Graham and Cox very soon.
