After all the enthusiasm from the preseason, fans and media turning on Lions after going 1-6 and the Hockenson trade.
I'm a die hard and have more patience. Because I see the significant improvements on offense this year and except for New England the team has been in every game this year.
You can not fix everything all at once. I'm fine with what has happened with the offense this year and expect the defense to be much better next year. We should start seeing some improvement on defense this year as we go along. Lions have had bad luck with the number of injuries and drafting injured players doesn't help.
I've said it before and I'll say it again Holmes and Campbell are still learning on the job. I like Campbell's enthusiasm, optimism and his lack of fear. If the fake punt against Miami had failed Campbell would have been crucified. I do not know if the call was made from the sideline or was Jacobs' discretion but in any way it was ballsy.
The Hockenson trade was a ballsy move by Holmes as well. He knew the flak he was going to get. But he is betting he can get Hockenson's production at a cheaper price with better blocking.
I have been so irritated at Campbell when his lack of fear turns to recklessness but i think its something he's improving.
There is a lot more I could say but it comes down to having faith in Speilman and Campbell. And I like Sheila. Its refreshing after hating Old Man Ford so long.

He’s the de fact QB1 next year. Started out the 2021 year as the guy, but was overtaken by HH.

This division will be up for grabs over the next couple of seasons. But with the Lions, it's always something. I like Holmes and Campbell but this is the worst defense I've ever seen. Not just the worst Lions defense, they are on pace to be the worst defense of all time. And in the 2 games where they faced an actual defense, they combined to score 6 points.

I really don`t care about the Hock trade. Hock will add something to a good team but can`t lift a bad team.
I do agree about the reckless decisions. Even if they work at times in the NFL you have to play the odds as eventually, they catch up to you like they have with the Lions. The fake punt against Miami worked but in reality they were not fooled at all as it was not open, the throw was a little short and receiver adjusted to the ball and made a nice catch/

Shane (we caught glimpses of him on Hard Knocks) is supposedly a good in-line blocker. And by good I mean I’m not totally sure….but he def doesn’t have the chops to be a receiving TE, so he must be good at something. Little undersized for a modern TE.
Brandon is a good athlete, decent track athlete in DIII (high jump & long jump.) Not as big as Shane but thicker than most WRs.
Jason Cabinda came back to practice this week but probably another week away. Think he’ll be an asset in short yardage situations as the lead blocker, good STer.
Not sure if Maurice Alexander (WR) was resigned to the practice squad - thought he was, played last week - but this week’s 53rd man is WR Stanley Berryhill.

The pathetic defense has been marginally better the user couple weeks. On a relative basis. They sucked slightly less.
Paschal is playing a ton of snaps and seems to be a good pairing with Hutch. If they’re going to be competitive this week it will likely be because those guys generate pressure so we don’t have to resort to blitzing too much.
Rodgers does not have a week better than QB14. This being the Lions, and given the supreme confidence he must be feeling given he’s been beating Detroit like a drum for 15 seasons, the reasonable consensus is he’s due for a Top 5 performance this week.
Maybe - but we’ve beaten Aaron a few times. For his career he is 18-6, over 6K yards, 52 TDs 8 INT. Won his first 5 (9 of 1st 10) and had won last 5 before last season’s finale, middle 8 he was 4-4 vs Stafford.
Should be a typical Packers beat down, but if the defense surprisingly steps up, winnable game against a less than vintage Green Bay team.

I think Lions will win and will not be shocked. They usually play GB tough at home plus Rodgers and the Packers are in disarray right now.
One concern is Lions pass defense might be the get well tonic for Rodgers.
The ACL injuries to Jameson Williams and James Mitchell don't concern me. I loved both picks. Paschal is already back and looks pretty good.
The only injured pick I hated was the Levi pick because it was a back injury. You have to stay away from back injuries.

Really glad Lions won. Got a couple of huge bailouts on third and longs with Packer penalties but that happens.
This was set up for perfect for a SOL loss but it did not happen. I want this team to win but Lions will never make the playoffs so I hate to blow the top-level QB talent or Anderson. A 5-12 record will do that.

That win vaulted the Lions from having the worst record in the league to tied with three other teams for the third-worst record. Losses by the Houston Texans (now 1-7-1) and Carolina Panthers (2-7) land them in the top two draft slots. Detroit is now tied with Las Vegas and Pittsburgh at 2-6. Detroit’s stronger strength of schedule means they get the last draft slot of the tiebreaker, meaning the Lions now hold the No. 5 overall pick. In the second round, it becomes the fourth pick of the round (No. 36).
The second Lions pick of the first round, the one acquired from the Rams in the Matthew Stafford trade, got better for Detroit too. Los Angeles lost in Tampa Bay to fall to 3-5. The Rams’ pick is now No. 12 overall; 10 days ago it was No. 20.

ASIDE - Kerby is in concussion protocol. Only the 4th rookie DB to have two forced fumbles and two interceptions in his first 8 games since 1999. All of his production came in the last 3 games.
Hutch joins Suh as the only rookie DL for the Lions to record at least 1 interception and 4.5 sacks.
2nd year LB Derrick Barnes led the team with a career-high 12 tackles, including one sack, one memorable goal-line stuff on AJ Dillon, and a lucky deflection off his helmet that led to the first of three takeaways of the game. BEST game he's had by a country mile.

One thing my wife said to me while watching the game on TV yesterday and then I really noticed was how "dull or drab" the Lions home uniforms are. The blue is OK but they need some brighter numbers and trim. The numbers and names look dull gray on TV.

For Lions and my own dynasty superFlex reasons I’ve started wading into the crop of ‘23 QB rookies. There seems to be some intriguing talent there but none without at least a question mark.
Young - accurate, inventive, calm in pocket. Size and durability concerns though
Stroud - good numbers. Bigger than Young, but simple offence and Ohio State qb history concerns ?
Levis - I like this guy actually. Great size, can and does run for TDs, big arm, but some accuracy questions. Kind of reminds me of an Allen/Herbert type ??
Richardson - might not declare. Wildcard. Is he Hurts/Lamar ? Or more Willis ??
Hooker - somewhere in between the others and Richardson in terms of style

Campbell says Kerby Joseph is in the same place as Brock Wright last week and St Brown two weeks - in the protocol but they determined he was not concussed.
That play where he started the play on the line showing blitz, and got back to break up the pass at the goal line was incredible

I'm thinking Rodgers was much bothered by the thumb injury. That Hutchinson INT throw had nothing on it. It was a difficult throw across his body but one Rodgers is usually capable of making and completing for a TD. His throws were off all game.
Instead of it being the stumbling, bumbling Lions it was the stumbling bumbling Packers on Sunday.
Numerous bad and untimely penalties, bad turnovers and numerous injuries. I thought I was watching a Lions team but these guys were wearing green.
Lions hurting so much at the receiving positions Chark, Cephus, Reynolds out; Hock traded, Williams on the sideline, best receiving back Swift on a very limited ongoing pitch count. Tom Kennedy is so bland though Raymond is capable of one splash play every other game. Its going to be difficult for the Lions to score points. Also, Jamal Williams is a good steady back but he's not explosive.
It was interesting to see the Lions go so up tempo on the second half touchdown it made a difference.
Also Kerby Joseph streaking back to knock a TD pass away at the last moment was the most exciting play of the game for me. You could see the WR with his hands out awaiting the ball. Its so uplifting to see the Lions secondary make plays.

As nice as it was to beat the doofus QB and his cheese heads, I'm not very optimistic this week. On the road vs. a mobile QB doesn't sound promising, but it would be great to be proven wrong.

I know hindsight is 20-20 but if the 2021 draft was a do over who would you pick?
1. Stick with the Sewell pick.
2. Micah Parsons
3. Justin Fields.
I really like Sewell but I might reconsider.

Sewell might be the starting left tackle in 2035. No regrets for me.
Micah Parsons is a great player and a good fit for the Cowboys. No guarantee he'd be enjoying that level of production in a Lions uniform.
I def wanted more foundational pieces in place before we drafted a QB. Fields is on a nice run at the moment but he's still a very flawed QB.

Yeah this theory that players would do equally well no matter what team they are on is inherently flawed. It's probably one of the main reasons so many early draft picks end up as busts, they are mainly going to bad teams.

I feel like Parsons probably would have been good no matter where he went. That said, I think a top 3 LT is more valuable than an off ball LB, even as good as Parsons is. That fact that he's making you even think about it is a testament of the impact he's having.

For where they were then,Sewell was a good pick.
Needed to see what they had in Goff. The OL was the closest unit to being the foundation to build on.
I remember there being character questions about Parsons when there were none for Sewell.

Rodgers not giving Lions D much credit for last week. Seemed to blame himself which was unusual for him.
Tend to agree to a certain extent as GB had nearly 400 yds in offense and all three turnovers were in the Lions end zone. But Lions made plays when given the opportunity and Joseph played like an All-Pro.

Kerby made two world class plays, the breakup that should have been a TD (when he showed blitz presnap then got back), and the interception inside the 5. I was watching a detailed film breakdown and they were basically saying both those plays were TDs virtually every time and the guy just made a play.
The helmet ricochet was bad luck/poor throw, and the OL lob was Rodgers trying to make it easy for the big guy who was all alone. Aidan made a nice play to get back and pick it off but in hindsight it looks like a bad throw. But I imagine when you have an uncovered lineman you really don't want to throw a dart there, either.
