2025 Detroit Lions: 4-1 Lions win battle of the big cats. (31 Viewers)

One person who quietly made his debut for the Lions last week was Quinton Bohanna. Two fairly high picks, Levi and Martin, were scratches last week and Bohanna was elevatee from practice squad. Played 35 percent of snaps at DT, got a tackle and assist and a PFF grade of 66, about averaged. A massive dude at 6'-4", 360 lbs, he was a 6th round pick for Dallas back in 2021 from Kentucky. Was a starter for awhile, but never did much for Dallas and eventually was waved earlier this year and Detroit picked him up. Supposedly super quick for a man his size.

Has Martin played a down yet this season?

I have a handful of player threads I started and it's annoying when I get the @ bc some bum moved from one practice squad to another lol.

You do a nice job staying on top of thread titles and being involved, I don't take it for granted.

The ole if you weren't here there would be a big hole sentiment that we think about this time of year is actually true.

I wanna say 11 snaps....maybe one game, the MNF v the Raiders? He plays too upright, and on that team you better win reps during the week if you want to play on Sundays.

As memory serves that was the one thing he was meant to work on coming in from the draft. Not much progression ?

Checking this store out today as we are tailgating with our daughters tomorrow morning. Wanted to pick up some new gear.

Vintage Detroit store is only a couple minute from my home. Used to be downtown on Michigan by Tiger Stadium. Now moved to a industrial area.
Looks like they are some cool stuff from all Detroit teams.

Think it's kind of a function of what they need for the rotation week to week.

(2) 0/1 Tech - Buggs (when healthy), Benito, Bohanna - that's three A gap DI plus a very large guy next to them.
(2) 3 Tech - Alim moved from NT to the B gap and is thriving since he transformed his body. Levi or Josh as well.
(3) 5 Tech - The Commish, Harris, Romeo O
(2) 7 Tech/Wide 9 - Hutch, Julian O

I think they typically dress 8 or 9. Just a numbers game, don't really need him. Hopefully he is still making incremental progress.

Houston played his way onto the active roster and into a role. If Martin balls out that opportunity is there for him. If he's not dressing then I gotta believe he's not winning his reps during the week.

That was the issue mentioned when he was drafted. Sounded at the time that they were expecting it to take time

Taking 2/3rds-ish of my winnings from the Williams TD last weekend and went overboard a bit betting with me heart instead of my head. For today's game I've bet:

Goff +255.5
Lions -7.5
DET D TD +500
LaPorta TD +210
Williams TD +390

Of all the bets, I feel most optimistic about the TD from The D and Goff going over. "Feeling" a Branch pick-6 or fumble recovery for a TD.

This was a downer.

Turnovers, failed fake punt deep in Lion territory, too many thing to talk about now.

Want to see the stats from Bobby on this one. i was in and out cooking but did not seem like the d-line was getting much pressure on Love.

As usual all the notice will go to the QBs, but both sides of the line were utter failures by the Lions. Love had all day and the lions o line couldn't deal with the pressure. 10 days to figure this crap out.

Goff was under pressure for sure.

Love is more mobile and can get out of the pocket so that helps. The win last week looks a lot bigger now.

We kind of expect this jeckle and Hyde from the defensive line. They seem to be really good or bad. The offensive line struggling this much was very weird and unexpected.

O-line play was puzzling.

Turnovers in Lions territory, the failed fake punt deep in Lions territory was like a turnover.

When chasing points from the start and then turning it over it is tough to win in the NFL. Got away with it last week but it catches up.

GB defensive line was their healthiest unit and they wanted it more
Lions poor field position plus turnovers and bad fake punt were big problems
GB made sound coaching decisions all game beginning with taking the ball to start the game

Each time the Lions get pumped up as a SB contender and move toward the top of the power rankings they lay a big egg.
If line doesn’t protect Goff he looks like a duck out of water.

Seasons are long. Hitting a rough patch is normal. I think they’ll get it straightened out on offense.

I have little confidence AG will make corrections. There is an dynamic at play here that I haven’t heard discussed.

AG is an A&M guy, same as Dan Campbell, graduated five years earlier. They have worked together a long time for different teams. I think MCDC is a little bit too deferential to AG. I think John Fox or Spielman or somebody needs to sit down with Dan and help him honestly assess the situation on defense.

I agree.

I was just think we might have had the bar set a little high for a team that has not even made the playoffs. Realistically Philly, Dallas and SF are better teams.

One big step will be getting a home playoff game and a playoff win. 3 years ago that would have been a pipe dream.

Yeah, they’re not Top 4-Top 6 SB contenders with their current roster. Top 8-10, s/b alive in the division round. That’s a pretty big incremental step & realistic goal for ROS.

Want to run with the big dogs, gonna need more dudes on defense. Hopefully a new DC bc I would love to see AG become someone’s new HC.

The only way AC gets a HC job is if a team thinks he will bring DCs enthusiasm to change a culture. AC/DC/HC Lot of Cs.

I can think of a couple places he played or couched who would want him & not bc he’s a Campbell acolyte

He’s highly respected in certain circles

The schedule down the stretch also doesn't look as cakey as we first thought. Final 4 games are Denver, Minny, Dallas, Minny.

After this loss I'm going to go back to old crotchety Lions fan who is still pissed about not taking defense early this draft. Everyone got all excited by a few weeks of Gibbs but no matter how Gibbs plays it was the wrong freaking pick. That pick really delayed a serious Super Bowl run by at least one year.

@Nate_Tice

Since week 7, when they played the Ravens, the Lions defense ranks:

• 31st in defensive success rate
• 32nd in defensive EPA per play
• QBs average time to throw is over 3 seconds
• 18.8% explosive pass rate

they’re basically turning every pass attempt into the Dolphins

13. @ Saints
14. @ Bears
15. Broncos
16. @ Vikings
17. @ Cowboys
18. Vikings

2-1 in the division, 5-2 in the conference

No more silly talk about the #1 seed

First NFC North division title is a worthy goal
I see ONE, maybe two wins on that remaining schedule.

We split with the Vikings. Really hard to find that 2nd win right now.

I’m sad.

Not spending a 3rd to get a pass rusher was horrible.

Reality is I’ve been on a show me basis. Loving everything but you need to keep showing me cause a thousand times bitten, so many times shy….

We’ve arguably not been good for a while. Baltimore on road fair enough lose but we were horrible, Chargers shoot out against a middling to bad team, bye, heroics against a middling to poor team in the Bears. Tonight.

Out D isn’t good enough. We aren’t in the tier of 9ers, Ravens, Eagles and Chiefs. We’re fighting in around Dolphins, Bills, a couple more. But the arrow is pointing the wrong way because our D just plain sucks

The blueprint is out there now. Loud and clear. If you score first against us? Our offense is broken. Defense is ONLY sorta good when we have a lead.

That’s it.

Toast.

Goff still continues to look like the Goff on the rams. Get pressure on him and he folds and can't play. Everything going great he's good but that won't be the case against teams that are even borderline good

If you told me we would be 8-3 at this point before the season started I be thrilled. Post season seems like a strong possibility but we are in win now mode and more should have been done at the trade deadline to bolster the defense. If you do not want to blitz you need pass rushers, Chase Young for a 3rd would have been a great solution. I would not be as worried if we were getting CJGJ back at safety as he was the emotional spark that side needs, but that is sounding like a remote possibility. The offense needs to carry this team and Goff needs to play a lot better to do so.

Hopefully they can pull it around, I mean even the 49ers went through a tough spell. But this is starting to look like the typical lions I grew up with. Appear talented, get our hopes up and then crash.

Respectfully, FTN.

That was pretty awful all around. The backup LGs (Sorsdal got benched in the 1st half, Awosika wasn't an improvement) got exposed but Decker played like a donkey as well. The lack of pass rush from sending 4 and 4 only is a weekly meme at this point. I may not know much but we play better D when we send 5 or more. Preferably a thumper and not a skinny S.

We must be the easiest defense to game plan for in the league. We disguise nothing and our DBs play way, way off - and still give up chunk plays. Did we have one QB knockdown yesterday?

I think they'll get it turned around. New Orleans had to be one Dan Campbell & AG circled back in May. It's personal for them. But coaches coach and players play. Right now we need some of these guys on defense to get mad as hell and decide they're not gonna take it anymore.

A division title and home playoff game was sort of the minimum baseline for a successful season. That's still within reach. Doesn't feel like it on overreaction Friday but Goff won't continue to play this awful.

I watch elite teams - all of whom have had a flat week or two (BUT NOT 3 NO SHOWS) - and when they're on, DAL PHI & SF have a level of intensity we rarely achieve. The first game of the year v the defending champs when we had weeks to prepare. Here and there since.

I think we can shelve the we should extend Jared now conversations for now. St is coming up on his last year and should be next in line. We should def try to get Hendon in there before YE to get a feel for his potential to get a head start the offseason evaluation.

Hoping they finish strong but this team is not ready to contend. Need more dudes on defense. A second playoff win in 66 years would be a monumental achievement, but IDC at this point. They have repeatedly shown they are not there yet. But I still think the process is headed in the right direction, and I still believe in the guys running things.

If AG doesn't get a HC gig they need to move on. That would be a hard move for Dan to make but it'll be interesting to see if he's going to keep his friend around or do the needful.

Pride of Detroit on X

IMO Lions fans really struggle with the idea that this is an evolving thing. Every loss is the end for them. Along with that is the idea that this is the final season or something. It has to be this year or nothing. This is a process and it's working. Maybe I'm wrong.

Part of me thinks it’s because these fans have never experienced a winning team and don’t realize that winning teams don’t just dominate every week.

They lose all the time. Mostly to teams you think they shouldn’t lose to.

That doesn’t make any of the them frauds.

The Lions missed out what Mosely and Ceedy Duce could bring to the D. Bottom line is if you can`t at least pressure the QB it does not matter how good the secondary is.

Seems like the games the sacks have been there it is because Lions had a big lead and they were just teeing off. Those numbers are misleading. Sacks and pressure really count when winning or losing by a small margin. when you are up by 20 in the 4th and get 4 sacks it only counts on the stat sheet and your next contract.

Other than the last play of the game against Fields Hutch has been rendered almost invisible. Even when they stunt him there is another blocker to chip or pick him up. GB did this a few times yesterday. Maybe James Houston will help but he has missed almost the whole season.

Romeo, Romeo, where art thou Romeo. We need a pass rush from the other side.

The difference between Ben and Aarron are stark. Ben spends so much time disguising plays, running a large variety of plays from the same formation, throwing in new twists. Aaron is plain vanilla which makes it easy for even a rookie QB to pick apart, especially when there is no pressure. Yesterday's game is impossible to lay on the defense as we turned the ball over some 7 times if you include getting stopped on downs. But our defense only made a handful of good plays the last three weeks. Our biggest stops have been because a reciever dropped an easy pass on 3rd down.

Terrible game all around, but at some point Aaron has to be on the hot seat. During his tenure, we had a few short stretches where our defense played well, and the defense has not progressed nearly as much as it should have over the last nearly 3 years.

That’s the 4th time this year we’ve made a pedestrian QB look elite. It’s probably happened 12 times in the last 44 games. I’m not expecting games 45-51 to be any different.

“Guys need to win their one on one battles. The scheme is fine. We had a plan. We wanted press man, I don’t know why the player was 8 yards off, that’s not what we called.” Paraphrasing but those are actual statements from the weekly coordinator pressers.

That is almost every qb in the league except the Mahomes and a few others. Like under five.

I like Goff as a QB and even more as a person. Love his interviews every week on The Ticket as he is honest and funny.

The first fumble that was returned for a TD was not his fault and that one was the game changer, arm hit from behind happens, a split second later that is an incomplete pass with arm going forward.

Second one it did not seem like the ball was hit that hard from his hand.

I should have mentioned that under pressure he folds more than most qbs. You can see it in his eyes and the way he moves after he gets hit a couple of times. I'd put him on the low end of the scale for qbs responding to hits.

You might lose Ben.

That plan has been in place since the day he announced he was coming back. Passing Game Coordinator Tanner Engstrand is widely believed to be the next OC. That’s why they took him off TEs duty, so he could spend the year shadowing Ben.

Sustainability does not rest on one person.
I wonder what would happen if a team came calling for Engatrand, more money as an OC.
Johnson and Slowik are the only two coordinators I’d be happy signing if the titans fired Vrabel. They’ll be hot commodities for sure.

Though the Titan just gave Vrabel a vote of confidence? That usually means he is fired for sure.

Man, that’s sort of a crazy quote. How can the DC not know why a guy is playing 8 yards off if he’s supposed to be in press man? I don’t believe a word coaches say, as a general rule of thumb though……
