2025 Detroit Lions: 4-1 Lions win battle of the big cats. (28 Viewers)

I want to take responsibility for the tight final score. Going in I said I'd be happy with a one point win. So that one is my fault.

totally different feel from 1991, that was a raucous party

was pacing all night during the game, wasn't ecstatic after - just relieved - and only slept 4 hours

wore my Jamo jersey to morning services yesterday, and my pastors always give me a hard time (one is an Eagles fan, the other grew up in CA and somehow roots for the Cowboys)

the Dallas fan says
"Godspeed today"
Yeah, you too guy
"maybe we'll come over to watch the game next week"
Or you can hop on the bandwagon after your team loses today

told the Eagles guy
I feel good about being able to win in Dallas but the best scenario would be GB winning twice so we could have 3 home games
"well maybe my wife and I will come over to watch the game with you guys if it ends up being Eagles-Lions"
you guys have lost 5 of 6, you're not winning tomorrow

ARSB said the game clincher was the same play they ran when they beat the Vikings with a TD pass on the final play (when they won their first game in 2021.) Said they've run it 20 times in the last 3 years and it's always there.

Against the Rams, Jared Goff set career playoff highs in:
  • Comp. % (81.5)
  • Yards/Attempt (10.3)
  • Passer rating (121.8)
His postseason averages going into this game:
  • Comp. %: 57.4%
  • Yards/Attempt: 6.6
  • Passer rating: 79.9
Just an absolute monster of a game.

You hear Brady say it all the time....you don't want your guys to get hurt or messed up, then don't put it where our safety is gonna make a play

I got two game balls

What a great simple sentence by Campbell when giving a game ball to Goff, "You're good enough for Detroit, man".

I will talk about the game plays in another post.

We were invited to a friends home last night that at least 15-20 people were going to be there. My wife wanted to go but I declined because it is tough to watch the game with everyone talking. I said no we are staying home just you and I. I want to watch every play.

At the last minute my daughter calls and asks us to come over. I ask who is going to be there and she says just her and her husband. They have a great setup for TV sports. They were going to have a party but my daughter said this game is too big and they want to concentrate on the game.

I don`t think I ever sat down, if I did it was only for a minute or two at a time. I got emotional when Eminem was talking pre-game. The only problem was my other daughter was at the game, and our feed from Xfinity was at least 60 seconds behind the live play and she kept texting us. The one play she texts "Stafford HURT!!" before the ball was even snapped. We all told her to stop until the end.

At games end I actually had tears in my eyes, my wife was crying, this was the first playoff win in my daughters life and she is 28! I just kept rewinding and watching the end of the game over and over. I was so dam happy!

Mr Jack Fox didn’t just have a 49.3 average; he pinned the Rams at the 10, 10 and 8 yard line. 0 return yards; bc of hang time they were all fair caught.

But we expect that from #3.

NOBODY thought Badgley would make a 54 yarder. Straight down the middle with plenty to spare.

First of all that was a huge 5 yard gain the play before as Lions would have punted if it were a 59 yard attempt. My daughter is saying "No, he can`t make one this long" Then he pounds it through. Patterson could not have made that kick.

This is beautiful. I've seen the other 3 sports teams won championships but this was by far my favorite sports moment of my life.

MCDC is exactly what the Lions needed. A cultural change that has the trifecta of Sheila, Holmes and Campbell (with Spielman as consigliere) working together and focused on winning.

I also remember the little ball of hate Mike Valenti on The Ticket mocked the Lions for hiring Campbell. Now he sings his praises.
Also said Lions were going to lose to Rams.
Let’s run him out of town on a rail. lol

Dan Miller call on the last ARSB catch

he knew the math, Tirico & Collinsworth didn't realize it was over when the Rams took their last timeout

Dan Miller lives about a mile from me, I have seen him a number of times over the years as he shops at the same market we do, have seen him at CVS too. Always been a great guy and talks it up a little and this is when Lions stunk. One time I was behind him in line, nobody else knew who he was and he turns around and all I say is "Dapper Dan!" he smiles and gives me the fist bump.

I have not seen him in over a year, if I ever run into him again I am going to walk up and hug him!

I hate Valenti and his puppet sidekick Rico who nods and says "Yes boss" to everything Valenti says.

My 2nd favorite football announcer of all-time (Bob Ufer was the man.) Love his exuberance. Hometown guys have an easier job, they don't have to feign being neutral, they're as big of fans as we are.

One of my favorite Miller lines was on a big 4th down play where the Lions D needed a stop.

Miller says "Ok defense..time to put your big boy pants on and get a stop here"

my favorites:
  1. Gonna get hit, gonna go down. Aidan Hutchinson....got 'em!
  2. Amon-Raaaaaa......Saint Brown

Any national guys been talking about the incorrect false start penalty on Decker? That was another huge blunder than probably cost the Lions 3 points for sure, maybe 7. How does this keep happening?

Bucs are hot right now much like the Rams. Can't take them lightly.
Campbell just feels like a coach who won't. Love his leadership. Love his style. Love the weapons they have on offense and the guy calling the plays. Don't love that defense. Only chance tampa has is Baker has a 300 yard 4 TD game. Possible. Even with the Lions long history of frustration, a loss here would sting a little different.

Greetings Lions,

I finally have a team that is facing off against you all, couldn't be happier my second favorite team has advanced
Weather will be a non factor for a warm weather Florida team on the road in Jan
You all are extremely talented, there is no denying that and one of the best Draft classes ever this past April

Bucs bring a lot of Playoff experience including 6 Playoff wins now over a 4 year stretch where they have made the Playoffs for 4 straight years, they are not going to be intimidated IMHO
I expect Detroit to try and exploit the 2 RBs again but I caution you, Bucs DL especially Vita Vea can make things vey difficult
If Goff does what he tends to do at home, you all will win rather easily but if the Bucs can slow down the offense, especially in the 1st and 2nd Q to keep the game close, Rams were nowhere to be seen on Defense in the 1st Half of that football game.

I also don't have a lot of faith in Baker but his ability to stay calm and not try and do too much is going to be key.
Bucs were like 3-6, 4-7 maybe at one point, this team has flaws and warts but they also were in cap hell and this year was supposed to be a wash post-Brady so now you have an experienced Playoff team that had little expectation this year or even Mid-Season so they are now rolling into town with house money and that makes them pretty dangerous

I'm sure Dan Campbell will have his team well prepared and ready to roll.
Todd Bowles will need a very well designed game plan on Defense to try and slow you all down, the Bucs cannot hold you all to under 10 points like Philly
Gibbs would scare the hell out of me, had him all year in Redrafts, very familiar with him and also i watched a lot of Detroit games this year, they've been a terrific story
I'm sure Detroit is happy to play the Bucs this week, think the Bucs are happy to be playing you all as well despite the tremendous talent you all bring

Good Luck this week, nothing but respect for what you all have accomplished so far.

For sure - 6/7 now, won in Lambeau along the way.

They were 3-1 & coming off their bye when we played them earlier (lone loss to the pre-meltdown Iggles), then lost 6 out of 7. Had a chance to clinch at home & lost to the Saints.

Baker is playing loose & having fun. We held their running game in check last time & neither Evans or Godwin hurt us (pretty sure that game was season best coverage game for both Sutton & Williams.) Believe Detroit led for close to 80% of the game.

Means nothing now. We’re a lot different team now. Gibbs missed the game, IIRC Monty got hurt against them, Melifonwu wasn’t integrated yet, and our OL was missing 2 starters.

I like both their OT. Goedecke made the Y2 jump, Witfs is great. It’s funny they have such a mediocre record bc they still have a lot of great individual talent.

No way Detroit takes any team lightly at this point.

I was talking more about some fans out there who like to get ahead of themselves. I expect the team to be ready.

Oh yeah, that is possible but also I feel like Lions fans have been burned so many times that always sort of expect the worst.

For the second consecutive week it’s a battle of former overall #1 picks. If you asked people to rank the 8 remaining QBs, Goff and Mayfield would be 7th & 8th on most lists.
  1. Mahomes
  2. LJax
  3. Allen
  4. Stroud
  5. Purdy
  6. Love
  7. Goff
  8. Mayfield
That’s gotta be close to consensus, right?

I think so. There's for sure a debate between 2 and 3. Probably another debate at 4 and 5. But it's pretty darn close to consensus. Goff is also the oldest QB left. All the playoff QBs left are in their 20s. Purdy is the only QB left who wasn't a 1st round pick.

Can`t believe that GB seems to have another young franchise QB. The first few times I watched Love he was horrible, thought he was going to be a bust. Right now he seems to have figured things out. If Love continues for the next decade GB will have had only 3 QBs in 40 years!! That is half a season for Cleveland.

Watching, learning and practicing does seem to benefit guys who are not like CJ Stroud.

Zack Wilson comes to mind. Wilson is mobile, has a rocket arm, but was thrown into the fire when he was not ready. Had he sat for a couple of years things might have worked out better.

This is kind of cool.

Remember the guy they showed crying at the end of the Wild Card game?

Channel 7 tracked him down

His dad was an iron worker who worked on the construction of Ford Field. He passed away when he was 14. Since he never knew his dad as an adult, not too many things trigger him. But going to Lions games with his pops was the best memories he had, and when they started kneeling it out, he knew his dad was celebrating along with he and his brother.

Buccaneers at Lions, 3 p.m. NBC PEACOCK

Bill Vinovich is the referee, who is in his 18th season and 15th as referee. This is his 18th postseason assignment, including 3 Wild Card Playoffs, 7 Divisional Playoffs, 6 Conference Championships, and Super Bowls XLIX and LIV. Both of his Super Bowl assignments were as a referee.

Has worked 13 Detroit games in the last 15 years, the last being Week 2 v the Commanders. Lions won 36-27 in a game which saw only three accepted penalties.

Yes, but what is his history of misreporting eligible linemen?

Dang, should have waited until I was done chopping onions before watching that video

just realized....

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be playing the Detroit Lions on Sunday in Detroit at 3pm.

The Tampa Bay Lightning will be playing the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in Detroit at 7pm.

Not a hockey fan, but that would be a fun twinbill, especially now that both teams play downtown (would be less fun if you were driving between Pontiac and Auburn Hills)
