Wakelee - Bangkok

🎶 I'm not home. I'm traveling to Bangkok with my friends🎶

Fun Jangly bop from Brooklyn NY Indie Rock band.

Edited to add: Found the band discussing the tune on Instagram:

‘Bangkok’ is out now.

We spent a week in upstate ny trying to write as much as possible, but not having a goal. We ended up getting six songs out of it, all of which are on the Doghouse EP. In the following months, this song took many shapes and by far the longest to finish from the project. The final version ended up being the original structure from the day we wrote it upstate.

Excited for this one to be out and have people walk along to it.

The Covasettes - Such A Dream

@indierock01 Indie Music's "Single Of The Week"

I have followed this Manchester, UK, Jangle Pop band for about three years, glad to see they are finally getting some attention.

The Midnight - Summer's Ending Soon

Sunset's eulogy in real-time
Painting shadows in the lamplight
There's no truth but what you decide
Summer is ending soon
Can this be true love and goodbye
Two contradictions at the same time
Somewhere somehow under the blue light
Summer is ending soon

From Wiki:

The Midnight is an American synthwave band composed of Atlanta-based singer-songwriter Tyler Lyle and Los Angeles–based Danish producer, songwriter, and singer Tim McEwan.

The band's motto is "mono no aware" (物の哀れ), a Japanese phrase that loosely translates to "a sense of nostalgic wistfulness and the awareness that nothing lasts forever"

Project Overload - Late Night Dancing

Bright Jangle Pop with sharp elbows from Coventry UK.

Edited to add: I found this on AT's 40 Releases Of the Week, which is hit or miss, but a definite hit for me this week with about a dozen tunes I added to my liked songs.

Child of Prague - Basking Sharks

Balu Bridada is a New Zealand Alt Pop duo now based in NYC, that have drawn comparisons to The Strokes, Daft Punk and Tame Impala.

Red Rum Club - Wild

"A stompy bop from Liverpool‘s Red Rum Club. Love the delicate trumpet fills, Fran‘s energy, the filthy guitars"

Bright Eyes, 1st World Blues giving me a Joe Strummer & the the Mescaleros vibe.

Kosum Boy - Your Style

Psychedelic, Funk, Rock And Roll, from Bangkok, Thailand. 🇹🇭

The Forensics - Maxine

"A song that really finds it’s feet after an all too familiar intro. What makes “Maxine” land so well is how it balances energy with restraint. It never overplays its hand."

The Forensics are a four piece Indie Pop/Indie Rock band hailing from Lancashire, England, UK.

Old Oak Embassy - Flags

"Think a mix of Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, and Big Wreck"

This is the debut single from Old Oak Embassy, or OOE, "A Nashville based collective of musicians and songwriters producing a unique blend of southern rock, country, and hard rock"

The Buoys - B*tch

🎶 Go on
Say it
Tell them I’m a b*tch
I’m not
Falling
For the same old tricks
Do what you need to get your fix
I’m good at taking a hit🎶

Australian all-woman Indie Rock band

The Cases - Leaving Behind

@indierock01 Indie Music's "Single Of The Week"

"A sonic trip right back to the glory days of 2000's indie"

The Cases are a four-piece from hailing from Preston, Lancashire, UK.

Stereolab - Fed Up With Your Job

More of a Retro Pop, Sunshine Pop feel than their usual fare:

I liked lower-case band shame's third album better than their second but not as much as their first.

How about this fouth one? I’ve only listened to it a few times and haven’t formed a strong opinion yet. I like their second album the best but just realized I’ve never listened to their debut.

I must have forgotten one along the way :bag: A lot has happened since 2018.

Let's just say I liked their new one more than anything they've done since their debut.

Lady Of Mars - Hits A Nerve

Second single from "London's latest female-fronted indie rock band, trading on emotionally charged lyrics, soaring vocals, driving beats and classy guitar work."

Buckingham Nicks

Forgive me if this doesn't belong in this thread, but I didn't know where else to put this. It was finally re-released after 50 years. I listened to it once. Really enjoyed it. Good stuff.

I am a big fan of Buckingham Nicks...However, for future reference this thread is intended for New Music released in 2025, usually new releases but also unreleased material seeing the light of day for the first time also qualifies.

If you wish to post a song that is not new and/or was previously released there is a thread for that is entitled "What Song Are You Lisenting To Right Now?"

Here’s a real toe tapper

Here are some of the new songs on my RR this week:
  • Born in the USA by Bruce Springsteen
  • Fake Palindromes by Andrew Bird
  • Speed Kills by the Smashing Pumpkins

Oh, and I just love it when they includes songs that are unavailable where I am. This week's tease: Smith Western's Nitro Blood.

That is really weird. I don't recall my RR being anything other than new releases.

NewDad - Otherside

Galway, Ireland, three-piece Indie Rock, Alt Rock band with a Radiohead-esque tune.

Not sure why but I have a hunch that Springsteen album is going to be a big hit. Could be one people are playing for years and years.

SHADE - Trouble Calls My Name

🎶 I've got the devil on my shoulder and he follows me
I've got a monkey on my back I just can't beat and you know that
I'll come running when trouble calls my name
Oh lord forgive me am I to blame am I to blame🎶

Shade is a Manchester, UK based alt-rock band known for their anthemic, powerful sound with striking guitars and melodic vocals.

This tune was released in January, but somehow I missed it.

The Chameleons (UK) - Saviors Are a Dangerous Thing

Off their new album, Arctic Moon
Wow!
Always been a fan despite almost always forgetting about them. They have a kind of krautrocky way of leaning into a hook and riding it...a style I've always liked

They’re still great live too

Porch Light - Oxygen

From the debut EP of this Minneapolis Indie Rock, Alt Rock band.

Here is a write up of the band from a Twin Cities publication:

Crimson Brooks - Passerby

"A raw and cathartic garage-meets-blues anthem" 🎸

Crimson Brooks were originally from St. Petersburg, Russia and are now based in the UK. This is their first release after a six year hiatus.

The Temper Trap - Giving Up Air

Australian indie-rock band.

Write up of the song in Rolling Stone, Australia:

Fellas, I was amped yesterday listening to Militarie Gun. Just all day and had a day. The guys are from my area. Los Angeles-based, apparently.

Just enjoying some hardcore laced with pop. More my speed than Turnstile, actually, even though I like Turnstile.

And guys, I usually ain’t like this and neither are hardcore kids (plus nearly every Gen Z girl comes with with Second Wave feminism pre-installed in her hardware so this is uber-rare) but if you get a chance I’d recommend checking the video short they made. Nice!

Figured I’d link the video. It’s not nearly as gratuitous as Spotify putting one girl on a loop. I’d check the Spotty treatment if I were you guys. Heh.

If you like Militarie Gun, you might also enjoy Dazy, the solo project of Richmond, VA's James Goodson.

The two bands have collaborated before and mine a similar vein of punky pop.

Will definitely check this out. Thanks, Eephus.

It's a previously unreleased version of Born in the USA (demo) which will be part of Nebraska '82:Expanded Edition. It is a new release.

Yeah, I get that. But I listen to a large and varied group of artists and would assume that there are other releases that are actually new music, not old stuff in a new package.

So this week isn't as bad as last week w/r/t old stuff. Only 2: John Coltrane (A Love Supreme Monophonic) and Chet Baker (Relaxin').

Oh, and Nitro by Smith Westerns is once again included in my RR, but unavailable to me. At this point, Spotify's just trolling me. Did anyone else get this on their RR and, if so, is it playable where you are?

On Spotify I can't find Nitro Blood listed at all (not even as unavailable). It is also not on YouTube, although Google says it is available on the Apple Music platform (but when I clicked on the link it says "The page you're looking for can't be found"). I am guessing the song was released and then pulled for some reason, maybe licensing issues.

I know a new album of Chet Baker material just came out that some people initially were outraged about because they thought it was AI, but it wasn't, just some newly discovered previously unreleased songs.
