I know a number of people here do their own player rankings. Let's have a little friendly competition to see whose rankings come out on top at the end of the NFL season. Fantasypros.com does this with many of the major experts in the industry.
We can do two things with this
1) Over the summer, we can have a Shark Pool consensus ranking by position based on the average of individual rankings.
2) At the end of the season, I score everyone's rankings and we see who are the best prognosticators on the board.
If you want to participate, here's what you need to do.
How Rankings are Scored for Accuracy
For scoring the rankings, I will be using fantasypro's methodology, described here. I encourage everyone to read and have a basic understanding of the scoring. There is a bit of math involved, and all of this will be visible and transparent in a google sheet I will be using to do the scoring. In simple terms, I will be comparing the final season outcome for each player to everyone's rankings and assigning each player a score based on the gap in actual rank vs. forecast rank. Everyone gets a total score and we tabulate. I will also be comparing everyone's rankings score to a few top industry experts, and Joe Bryant has given permission to compare to the FBG site rankings too. We will have a winner for each position (QB/RB/WR/TE) and an overall winner.
I am happy to answer any questions on the scoring, some of it was discussed in my initial Interest Check thread.
This contest does not have any prize money associated, nor is it officially sanctioned/hosted by FBG. This is just me as an excel nerd offering this, as I think it could be fun. The prize is bragging rights and to see how your rankings measure up to others.

If you want to participate, here's what you need to do.
- Compile your rankings for the 4 major positions, QB/RB/WR/TE and submit them to me via google sheet. If google sheets are completely foreign to you, I can take it via a list through PM, but I strongly prefer this in spreadsheet format. Some additional details
- Rank your players using the following PPR scoring system:
- 1 per 10 rushing/receiving yards
- 1 per 25 passing yards
- 6 per receiving/rushing TD
- 4 per passing TD
- -1 per Int
- 1 per reception
- Here is an example submission via google sheet. Feel free make a copy of this and use to submit. Please note that all I want is the rank and player name for each position, no other info. Please use the full player names. If you can, please use the player names as they appear on fantasypros website. Some players have suffixes like Patrick Mahomes II or Deebo Samuel Sr.
- Rank your players using the following PPR scoring system:
- At a minimum, please rank 25 QB, 50 RB, 60 WR, 20 TE. You are encouraged to rank more than this. The way the rankings are scored, you are not penalized for having deep rankings. More details on this in the scoring link below.
- The deadline for final submissions is Thursday, September 4, Noon eastern time. Submissions before this are encouraged and will ensure that your rankings are included in the Shark Pool consensus rankings that will be calculated and made available to everyone. You can always submit updated rankings for the contest right at the deadline.
