2nd half breakouts (1 Viewer)

I'm curious to see who some of you think will turn it around in the second half. Early draft picks that haven't preformed as well as expected for one reason or another, or Late picks / non-drafted players that aren't well known but are in a position to put up big numbers in the second half.

I'm looking for Reggie Bush to heat up. I think it's taking some time for him to get used to not having Duece. It also looks like Brees is warming up, so that should open up some running lanes for him.

After 8 weeks, a lot of people might be willing to give him up in a trade for less than he's worth, especially if he catches fire.

Stecker NO, with Bush banged up
Just as a quick FYI, Bush suffered only a minor hip pointer & could have easily continued playing, but with the score being what it was, the Coaches pulled him purely for precautionary reasons & for that matter, a completely healthy Brees.

I like Greg Jennings to put up some nice 2nd half numbers. He missed the first 2 weeks due to injury, but with the exception of the Redskins game, he's played well. I could see 6 more TD's yet this year, giving him 9 total in 14 games.

:goodposting: Some people hate just to hate.
Oh! My mistake. I didn't realize he was a Bush hater, I thought Gopher was legitimately unaware of the extent of Bush's injury.

For those of you considering Fitz or Boldin; Boldin has outperformed his counterpart in every game that they have played in. Without the injury Boldin would be a top 5 rec. My vote is for Boldin if he can remain healthy and they can keep a QB on the field that can get the ball to WRs. Fitz is going to cool off big time in the second half and his first half wasn't that spectacular.

I'd say we should look for a player that has been fairly steady thus far in the yardage department, but simply lacking td's. Since touchdowns are flukish to begin with, those could easily even out.

Parker? McGahee?
Those are great picks-McGahee is currently top ten and has virtually no td's. If he can start getting those he could really become a monster-the only question is if the offense is good enough to move the ball consistently into the red zone.

Lee Evans is just getting warmed-up for his patented second half break-out; 10/236/1 since the bye (yes, I bought low during the BYE :tfp: )

Not that he's been bad at all, but I think we'll see a bit more of the LT we're used to with the team making a push towards the playoffs and Norv feeding him the ball.

Agreed. Last week really showed how he's going to be used from here on out. :X

If his ankle isn't hurt too badly, I like Frank Gore the rest of the season. His value is at his lowest right now. He has too much talent to not produce in the second half of the season.

Does the team ever play a factor or is it always talent based? I'm a Niners fan but my hopes of Alex Smith becoming the next Trent Dilfer have vanished and our offense looks absolutely pathetic.

Even with the horrible offense and the tough early schedule Frank Gore was still a top 15-20 running back. While he probably won't be the 4th best running back this season, if he puts together a couple of good games he can be a top-10 running back. Assuming he's healthy of course.

This would be Cotchery. I think with the change to Clemens, this again makes him a dark horse.

They didn't need to run the ball much. Rivers had 3 medium-to-long range TDs and the DEF and special teams scored TDs. The game was basically over before half time.

Here's my picks for some midrange or underperforming guys

QB: Roethlesberger, Warner, Hasselback, Anderson and I suspect whichever of Losman/Edwards gets handed the reins full time.

RB: Parker (I think he'll be top3 from here on out), Edge, Lewis...I'm so tempted to add Alexander but man he's already sucked against some crappy D's

WR: I think (hope, own both) Harrison and Ward make a comeback. Edwards continues to dominate and drags Jurevicius with him. Evans resurrects. There's going to be a Seattle receiver (or two) who's huge. The person who picked up Stokely this week dropped him right before kickoff, hoping he drops to me on waivers, think he could pull a Bennett from a few years back.

If you can find someone that's willing to sell him in the 15-20 rb range then go get him. I think because most people grabbed him as a top 5 guy, there isn't going to be value in acquiring the guy. Unless you actually believe he's going to be top 5 from this point forward (I don't), I'm not sure there is any value.

Mark Clayton in Baltimore maybe? He looked promising last year and has disapperaed and is a free agent in some leagues so he would be a cheap WR to look at.

He and LJ are my two breakout candidates. If you have a dead roster spot, take a gamble on Arnez Battle if he's available. Since most of the guys on this site play in 80 team leagues with 600 player rosters, he's likely not on your waiver wire.

I like Vernon Davis if he stays healthy. Good game this Sunday 6-71 TD, 9 targets. They have an easy schedule, and an offense that screams "dump off to the TE".

Ryan Grant deserves a mention.
Ryan Grant deserves to be ignored. The Packers 32nd ranked running game butted heads with the league's 32nd ranked run defense. It was the Perfect Storm for Grant. Don't look for it to happen again soon. Griese. Kevin Jones (until he flops in the fantasy playoffs). Berrian. Cotchery. Vernon Davis and Greg Olsen will only continue getting more targets. To name a few.

QB: Derek Anderson

WR: Patrick Crayton

RB: Kevin Jones

One at each position that should play reasonably strong and are probably considered 2nd and 3rd tier type players.

He ranks as the 101 wr on a ppg basis. While that's horrid, he is getting about 6 targets per game. I see no reason to expect an increase but I haven't watched any Ravens games.

Do you feel Grant has a legitimate chance to win the starting job for the rest of the season? If so, unless your roster size is extremely limited, I fail to see why someone wouldn't take a gamble on him.

Some guys that I think might have good/great 2nd halfs....

Willie Parker, R.Bush, Boldin, Fitzgerald, Warner, Edge,DJ Hackett, V.Davis, Gore, Cotchery, Colston, Rothlisberger

Arizona and the Steelers both have great upcoming schedules

Vernon Davis is in line to bust out hard in the 2nd half of the season....Every WR on SF is garbage and Gore's Cinderella Effect from last year is as good as gone....VD is the only viable threat on that team as of right now...and as long as Smith is the QB...expect alot of targets to Davis....he's gonna finally live up to the hype

Before this week, he could be on alot of waiver wires. He was hurt and under achieving.

I looked at game data back to 1996. I broke up each player's season into two halves. With a season being 17 weeks, the two halves are going to be uneven by 1 game. I made weeks 1-8 the first half and weeks 9-17 the second half. Then I limited to only players that played in at least three games in each half of the season.

For RBs, there have been 13 who went from averaging less than 5 pts/game in the first half of a season to over 10 pts/game in the second half of the season. 12 RBs went in the opposite direction (from 10+/game to 5-/game).

For QBs, 12 went from 5 ppg to 10 ppg and 5 went from 10 ppg to 5 ppg.

For WRs, 8 went from 5 ppg to 10 ppg and 11 went from 10 ppg to 5 ppg.

For TEs, only 9 went from 3 ppg to 6 ppg and 9 went from 6 ppg to 3 ppg.

Not sure what's that worth, but there it is. It seems not too many players make big jumps.

QB

JP Losman (we'll see if we can wrestle back the job from Edwards that he never should have lost, but either way should light it up with Evans for a couple weeks)

RB

Ryan Grant (looked better yesterday than Wynn has looked all year; could steal the job if he can avoid fumbilitis)

Jerious Norwood (sounds like he'll finally start getting more PT after the bye; make or break under Petrino)

WR

Lee Evans (See Losman above; patience will pay off)

Brandon Stokely (will get a ton of catches if he can stay healthy)

DJ Hackett (the Seattle situation is begging for someone to step up. DJ will be that someone)

TE

Tony Scheffler (only drawback is emergence of Stokely as safety blanket #2)

Derek Anderson is the #3 qb in most leagues...I think he's already broken out. I like your other two picks.
Agreed and anyone that considers Derrick Anderson a 2nd or 3rd tier QB is an idiot. If you look at Anderson's numbers over his last 11 games, he has posted 2,500 yards passing 23 TDs and 2 more rushing. He would be on pace for 3,600 yards and 36 TDs. He has 2 amazing young weapons and obviously knows how to take advantage of them. Most importantly, he is winning. His numbers for this year, prorated over a 16 game season are even more impressive: 3,900 yards and 43 TDs.

I get what he's saying though. Anderson isn't the biggest name out there, and you might be able to dazzle an Anderson owner more than you would say a Tony Romo owner....even if the stats are close. The problem is, the guys that have snatched up Anderson are in love with the guy, and you won't be able to pry him away with a crowbar.
