2nd year WRs...Who makes the biggest jump this season? (1 Viewer)

Taking the obvious Calvin Johnson answer out of the picture. Which 2nd year is in for the biggest jump this season? Just taking overall improvement, not necessarily stats wise.

Ted Ginn... Seemed to come on late in the year. Has an upgrade at QB this season.

Bowe... Showed flashes early last year. Kind of disappeared once teams started game planing for him. OL or QB improvements?

Meachem... I haven't followed the Saints much this pre-season. High powered passing offence. Considering he didn't do anything last year, any production would be a jump.

Craig Davis... Hard to be optimistic here.

A. Gonzalez... Stock seems to be dropping with injury concerns to Manning and Harrison looking healthy.

Sidney Rice... This could be the guy IMO. If Jackson can become a tad bit more accurate, Rice could flurish this season with a strong running game and Berrian on the other side.

Dewayne Jarrett... #4 WR for the Panthers? I'll pass for now

Steve Smtih... While some here love this kid, I don't see huge numbers in the NYG system for him.

Jacoby Jones... I'm still waiting for the breakout game

Laurent Robinson... another candidate I really like for a breakout year. Ryan improves the QB position. D still terrible. #2 WR on a team that should pass a lot.

Jason Hill... In the Niners Offense who knows...

James Jones... Steady player. Don't expect much improvement from last season though.

Mike Walker... No. I'm still not on this bandwagon. Guy had a chance to shine with the WR injuries this pre-season and Matt Jones looked better

Paul Williams...Is his roster spot safe? I haven't seen the Tenn Cut list.

Chansi Stuckey... I only mention because he could be a nice deep sleeper.

Give me a Top 5 this year...

1) Ginn - Just have to like this situation

2) S. Rice - Might take some heat for this, but I like the talent and surround cast

3) L. Robinson - You will want the guy this year

4) Meachem - Only for the Drew Brees factor

5) Bowe - I feel very iffy about this one. Like the Talent, but the situation scares me. Expectations might be too high for him already

1) Bowe - He is the #1 recieving option on a team that will play from behind ALOT.

2) Ginn - If your leauge gets points for return yards or TD's, it boosts his potential further. Figure he will get one or two TD's added to his totals if he keeps return duties.

3) Steve Smith sure looked good in the preseason last year, and the game or two before he got hurt.

Besides the fact that people expect the Falcons to be losing alot, I don't understand the Robinson love. White is the bonafide #1 with a rookie qb who probably won't be going through alot of progressions. In his limited playing time so far Ryan has looked to Jenkins alot, and their new coach comes from the Jacksonville organization, not exactly the passing capital of the world. I could see him being okay but I just don't feel like Atlanta is going to have 2 relevant fantasy wr's and a solid #2 fantasy back. If they did, wouldn't they be expected to be much better?

Meachem will make the biggest "jump" as from nothing last year, should turn into a respectable fantasy low #2 or high #3. Ginn should also at least double his stats last year. The other Gonzalez should steal enough catches from Clark and Harrison to match last years numbers. Robinson isn't in the situation to make great strides this season. Bowe hit high strides last year and should stay consistent. James Jones probably won't see as many balls, NYG Steve Smith is in mix with a ton of young WRs and probably won't establish himself this season.

Laurent Robinson: Based on his rookie effort, there should be lots of fantasy love in dynast format. But based on his training camp, he has a long ways to go. Talented but not ready for Prime Time. Sudden changes in head coaches really can kill young players, see Matt Leinart (well he is just not that good, but I digress!)

Agreed. Very good receiving skills, but Smith/Mularkey really like Jenkins blocking skills out wide and in fact, while I'm one of Jenkins' harshest critics, he's caught the ball well so far (better than I've seen him).

Reasons to optimistic about LR...- Will now the #2 WR threat on that offense- He will be starting and get his fair share of balls. - 2nd year in NFL, showed progress last season- Alge Crumpler is gone- Better QB, OL and RB- Roddy White still needs to show he is the real deal and can repeat last year's numbers- One of the worst Ds in the NFL right now I'm not worried about the new coach coming from Jax. This is a different team with different players. Jax had a great D and a dominant OL with some stud backs...he doesn't have that in ATL and should understand he can't win in the same manner. On another note, take the jets from last season 2 solid fantasy WR options and a #2 RB. Fantasy #s dont always relate to W_L record.

Gonzo...his $$ has fall. Get him now while u can. Remember how expenisve he was when Marv was hurt... well he'll be worth twice as much when Marv retires.

Hill... I get the feeling that he'll be the #3 WR in SF. Maybe not at the beginning of the yr, but some pt he'll take the job. Expect Big #s when he does.

Ginn's $$ is going up, now might be a good time to sell high.

Aug 25 Steve Wyche, of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, reports Atlanta Falcons WR Michael Jenkins has taken over the starting job from WR Laurent Robinson.

I agree with the OP that Bowe probably already has too high of expectations. That is a bad team, bad QB, bad OL and Tony G still plays so he will be the dump off guy when Brodie gets into trouble.

I think Bowe over performed last year and if he can duplicate those numbers it will be very impressive. I would not plan for it.

Ginn, Meachem, and Rice look like the best bets to significantly improve their yardage. Rice has the best chance at a true breakout season. Ginn will be a solid WR3-WR4 in FF leagues.

:goodposting: I like Meacham out of this group - enough to *reach* a little (9th round of a 14 team redraft) as WR4. Looking good in the pre-season, a year to get the system down, Brees is >>> compared to all the other WR's qbs on this list (minus maybe Peyton - and even that's debatable). And the scrubs on the depth chart ahead of him are career journeymen (Patten, Devery, Moore, Copper?) Absolutely the best bet for decent WR2 and certainly WR3 type #s IMO. However, owners may have to wait a few games for this to happen.
