$319 for Sunday Ticket? (1 Viewer)

Unless you have a specific team you follow that is out of your viewing market, Red Zone Channel makes way more sense than Sunday Ticket.I pay $7/month to get the RZ channel on Dish Network. That's $28 per season. F paying $319 or even $200.
Some of us like to watch the whole game. I can get he highlights on ESPN that night. I'm usually flippin between two games and then occasionally hitting the redzone channel. If there are no games of interest then I'll just watch the redzone channel. One huge perk to the Ticket that nobody is talking about are the condensed games. Whole game in 30 minutes or so. I watch 2 games at lunch on mon/tues/wed. Great way to see every snap of games you might not have otherwise seen. You don't get that on dish.

So what is the best ploy to get a good price on the ST if you are a new DirecTV subscriber?
I've been trying them every so often for the last couple of weeks seeing if I could get anyone to cut me a better deal than the promotion they're running on their website, but no such luck. Not that the promotion on their website is a bad one- pay for Sunday Ticket and get free cable for 5 months. The cost of cable for 5 months ranges from $300 (for the most basic package) to $750 (for the premium package), so it's actually a bigger savings than the current subscribers are getting (they're getting Sunday Ticket cheaper, but they have to pay it on top of their standard cable costs). It does make for a somewhat odd situation in that 5 months from now you'll lose all those extra channels and your cable bill will still go up as a result.

Shortcuts is actually the only reason I'm switching. I've got a big DVR and an external hard drive to back up to. I'm planning on recording every single snap of every single game next year.

While ST is expensive, if your only other option is to go to a sports bar to watch your team, then ST makes sense. Less than $20 per week.
