4 defenses on a 14 player roster? (1 Viewer)

I don't have a killer D like NE that I can ride. So, I picked up AZ and Tampa B today to go along with TN and MN. 8-2, definitely in playoffs, and with Romo/Addai/Parker/Chatman/Chad Johnson/Welker/Steve Smith/Galloway/Crosby (12 team redraft) I felt OK with depth, and no need to carry scrubs. Defensive scoring in our league is HUGE. Yards against/turnovers big time factors. So this is what it looks like...

Week 11 Vikings at home vs. Raiders

Week 12 Cardinals at home vs. 49rs

Week 13 Titans at home vs. Texans

Week 14 Vikings @ 49rs

Week 15 Bucs at home vs. Falcons

Week 16 Bucs @ 49rs

3 games vs. the 49rs, 1 vs. Raiders, 1 vs. Texans and 1 vs. Falcons - not bad if I make it that far. Will cut Cardinals after week 12 (vs. my 2nd place division rival) to get depth at QB or WR, then adjust from there. Anybody else stocking up on D's or have a Defense by committee approach that works the rest of the way? Defense can win championships!

I actually have NE defense is my main league but still have Minn and Carolina on roster for similar reasons. Played Carolina vs Atlanta week 10 over Minn vs GB. Kept them on roster potentially for week 13 vs SF. I'm also considering Minn weeks 11 and 14 as well. SF and Oak are so bad that it's even worth considering benching the Pats.

I did an initial dynasty league this year with very, very deep rosters (10 players, 30-man benches, no IDP). After the 22nd round or so, one player decided that he didn't recognize anybody's names anymore, so he just went berserk drafting every single remaining defense. He went into the season with 8-10 defenses rostered.

I like what you've got going. The only downside is that you don't really have depth in case of injury. My team has been plagued by injuries all year and as a result there has been no way I could have gone with more than one defense for most of the year.

If one or two of your guys go down, you'll have to make a decision as to which of your defenses to stick with.

I'm in the same exact boat here bud. I've caught lots of flack for keeping 3 defenses. But all three are great units, rated in the top 10 with great playoff matchups. Indy (BAL, OAK, HOU), Tennessee (SD, KC, NYJ) and Minnesota (SF, CHI, WAS). If something opened up that I truly NEED, I'd have no problem dropping one. But until that happens, I'm happy with playing the matchup game.

I think people overlook defenses. If you're in the right kind of scoring league regarding how many points a DEF/ST will get, a waiver wire DEF/ST can easily get 25 points. There is almost no chance a WR or RB from waivers will get you 25.

I think that is a great strategy if you have the roster to pull it off.

Too bad my league is switching to IDP next year, cause I won't have a chance to try it out myself.

I tried a similar stratgey once I got past bye weeks. 8 starting spots, 6 reserves. I had two handcuffs which left me with 4 open spots. I thought I would pick up a bunch of defenses just to play matchups the rest of the year. Turns out there is a max limit of 3 per roster. I assume that is to ensure nobody blocks teams from picking up defenses?
