#4 pick in 14 team league: (1 Viewer)

Da Guru

Fair & Balanced
#4 in a 14 team Shark League.

14 team leagues are way different that 10-12.

Clinton Portis..or take a flyer on Peyton and hope for the best in the seconcd and third?

Portis. Unless it's a ppr, then Tiki deserves a look.

With 14 teams you can't pass on a RB here.

Depends on if th e league is full of Sharks or Guppies. If you are playing with guppies go Peyton, instead of taking up 3 roster spots on avg. QB's. -Great article BTW

I would take Portis in a heartbeat. I think with Saunders and the new system, he could definitely challenge the Big 3.

I think I would be much more disappointed if I drew 5 or 6. Trade down if you can. There are many Portis lovers floating around.

Peyton isn't likely to outscore other QBs or QB combinations by enough points to merit the #4 pick.

In a ppr league, I'm looking at Tiki and LJordan at #3 and #4. Westbrook is likely to get into the mix at #5 ahead of Alexander.

In non ppr, you're like faced with LJ, SA, and LT gone so you've got options of Portis, Tiki, and LJordan. I'm putting Jordan at the bottom of that group, so it's a choice between Portis and Tiki. This is really just a guess at who will stay healthy and score more total TDs. Portis scored 7 and 11 total TDs in the last two years and Tiki scored 15 and 11.

i think thats a great position to draft from. take portis or barber (i would take portis), and take the best stud available wr/rb rd 2 so the top 3 picks dont get a shot at him.

# 4 ain't half bad.....

It's certainly better than #7.

I'd have to say ########, Tiki, Jordan are some pretty good 'load back' options at 4/5/6 with Edge being the 'wild card' behind that awful O-line.

No need to post anything else in this thread. The 4-hole RAWKS. Take Portis in a non-PPR, Tiki in a PPR, and snake the last decent player from the second RB tier, or the last decen t WR from the elite tier in the second round - or manning - and send the 1-3 guys into non-RB/non-elite WR land with their 2/3 picks. In a 14-teamer, you can REALLY exhaust the last of the top-25 overall talent on the board, and give 1-3's non-elite RBs secon dtieer starter status. You are in the PERFECT spot in a 14-team league.

I tend to agree with you here that the caliber of player you can select at 4 is on par with who you might take at 6. I think Portis's value is slightly inflated right now. By seasons end I think he, Tiki and Steven Jackson are all pretty similar. I'd explore trading back a slot or two if you think you can pull it off. SJax at 6 is every bit as good as Portis at 4 IMHO.

That being said, I certainly wouldn't be upset about holding the 4th spot in a 14 team league.

I've got the #4 in a 16 team shark league. Portis is the easy decision, the rest of the draft is where I'm having problems deciding which way to go..

Problems? Impossible. In leagues the size of half the NFL teams, your entire thinking scheme has to change and you have to take advantage of the BEST SKILL PLAYER at all times, regardless of position. At 4 in a 16, I'd probably go Portis and look for a top-8 WR, Manning or Gates in the 2nd - same thing after the turn. I would platoon my RB2. Screw RB2 in that big a league - get yourself set up with players you KNOW you can count on at the other skill spots, and platoon your RB2 with whatever's available from the 4th or 5th round on. Just live with being behind some other teams at RB2, but WAY WAY ahead of most of the league at RB1 plus your skil players in rds 2/3. If you have Portis, Manning, and Gates in a 16 team league, you are doing VERY VERY well - and since everyone else will (hopefully) look for WRs and RB2s, you have a decent shot at getting that lineup.

I had 5th in a 14-team league, I traded up to #2. SA and LJ are keepers, at #5 I was looking at Manning all ready. I think that I am going to take Portis (non-PPR), and try for Chris Chambers, Roy Williams or or Donald Driver in the second.

Scratch Portis out of the 4 hole.

I would have a difficult time drafting damaged goods, although Tiki has put up great numbers it appears Jacobs will be a full time vulture this year..much like Duckett.

Steven Jackson has a cake schedule and the Rams say they want to run the ball more to keep the defense off the field. Jackson has great upside.

GB people like you. Lets me get the #2RB with perhaps the 6th or 7th pick.

I will laugh when Portis`s shoulder pops in and out of joint all season long. This is not a 100 dollar league, in my other leagues I would have no problem. In this league a mistake is costly $$$

Oh no, not the 4th pick...NOT THE 4TH PICK!!! OH THE HUMANITY!!!

p.s. Portis is hurt and I for one think a shoulder injury will linger into the season and he wont be right all year. Go with Barber (even with a healthy Portis I lean that way) or if you are in a start 2QB league then grab Manning.

With the #4 pick: Steven Jackson.

Looked at everything involved. Jackson seems to be on the verge of a big year. Portis hurt, Barber admitting Jacobs is the goal line guy. With Martz gone the Rams have already said they will be running and controlling the clock more this year.

The thing that really sold me was the Rams schedule..a cakewalk!

My decision is final!!

In our 14 team league drafted last weekend (before Portis injury), Portis went #4, Edge went #5 and Jackson went #6. You would have thought the world was coming to an end the way everyone groaned when Jackson was taken. A LOT of people were hoping he would fall. Tiki didnt go until 9th (not surprising to me).

After last night.......my decision is not final!! Jackson did not look too good.

In what league are you going to be able to grab Portis (or some other stud RB, now that he's dinged), Manning and Gates? In my 14-team league, I expect all three of those guys to be gone by the end of the second -- 28 picks into the draft. And certainly if you're drafting out of the four slot, they'll all be gone by 32 picks in ...

Well at least you're not fickle! ;) I didn't see the game last night but I would say relax. Who's going to be such a better option at #4 now that there are questions around Portis? Barber? Don't think so. Give me the 23 year old that will get goal line carries on a team that wants to run over the 31 year any day.

How about the 31 year old who's a far better runner.

i have the 4th in a league with some sharks but a number of guppies. i am strongly going considering payton. i've never don that in a re-draft so i'm hesitant to pull the trigger

It worked out in the end!
Hmmm... I must have missed one of your posts after this one:
