49ers at Seahawks? (1 Viewer)

I was pointing out that the 49ers and Seahawks have split the series 1-1 this year, with both teams losing at home.

I wouldn't call the Eagles a 50-50 bet. I haven't looked at a spread, but I'd be shocked if Seattle wasn't favored.
49ers would probably be favored by a touchdown so it's not 50/50

Bookmaker opened SEA/PHI at pick em so it's literally 50/50

well, the Niners beat themselves in SF. Without Kittle, without Juice, without Staley, they drove down the field and got to  easy FG range & a backup kicker shanked a kick badly.

so yeah, they split the series, but the Niners had that game won.

just keepin it real.

805 is a beer made by Firestone Walker.  It is the most pedestrian “craft beer” out there.

True story.  Originally it was called Firestone Blonde or something.  It didn’t sell very well at all.  Probably since most beerguys expected anything from Firestone to be much more “craftier” (their Union Jack is one of the best beers for the $).  It tastes more like a lager than any kind of ale. And it’s only like 4.7 ABV.

So Firestone just changes the name. 805 is the area code for the California Central Coast*.   They also change the emblem/label to appeal to the Ed Hardy/tattoo Bros.  https://images.app.goo.gl/jkw8iufAysmyjmQM8

Next thing you know...it’s a huge hit.

Basically it is a beer for dudes that always drank Bud Light and think craft beer/IPAs/etc are for wussies.

*805 used to be my area code too.  Then they split 805 and created 661.  So basically you got a bunch of flat-bill, lifted truck driving, dopes in the 661 drinking 805.
I'm from Kentucky, I know nuttin bout this type.

Saints players have to be pissed off right now.
As for Saints fans?

You don't want to read the theories. Let's just say a lot of us are waiting for Mean Gene Okerlund to shove a microphone in some faces.

For all those complaining about the non-call PI on Warner, I’m willing to bet you think the PI call on Williams on 3rd and 10 that allowed the Seattle TD drive to continue and the 15 yarder on Garland for blocking after the whistle when he was downfield ahead of the runner and couldn’t possibly hear the whistle, were fine calls. Instead of 3rd and 3, it’s 3rd and 18.  For anyone who really thinks there is an element of game fixing (I don’t), this would be the kind of call to point to.  Wasn’t a cheap shot on a player unprepared for the hit. Should have never been called there.

Iupati could have had 6-7 holding penalties called on him, but only had 1, which was too blatant for even these incompetents to miss. Seattle did not get screwed by the refs this game.

I always loved when Mean Gene would interview Commissioner Wally Karbo.  Wally would always shout, "There's going to be fines and suspensions!"

If not being able to hear were a valid excuse for committing personal fouls I think the deaf would have a greater presence in t he league.

I agree that Garland's call was poor.

When people go on about refs determining outcomes, the timing and game-leverage situation of a call matters more than anything else. That's why people will harp on the Warner non-call and not care about 10 other calls/no-calls that went against the Niners in lower-leverage situations.

Really, I think most fair-minded people just want officials to call the doggone rules by the book. Block out all extraneous inputs -- as difficult as that is for human beings to do -- and just call what the game rules dictate. And get it out of your heads that it's somehow bad for a referee to call a legit foul late in a tight game. No whistle-swallowing.

Does Iupati do that "choke hold" block that so many NFL offensive tackles do these days? I think Bill Belichick, or someone in his tree, popularized that move.

49ers were just the favorites in Seattle, and covered, and you're saying they wouldn't be at home in round 2? :lmao:

Keep dreaming.
Yeah, Sagarin ratings make 49ers -8.  49ers closed -6.5 on their MNF game and there's historical value to having a bye prior to the divisional round. -7.5/-8 sounds about right so saying that matchup would be 50/50 is absurd.

Despite Iupati getting away with holding all game, I was fine with the officiating.  I prefer letting them play and calling only the obvious penalties that impact the play.  It just bothers me that they officiate the game like that virtually the whole game  and then call ticky tack penalties like the PI on Williams and the block on Garland inside of 10 minutes.

If you look at the entire play on the Warner non-call, Hollister did initiate contact and Warner did interfere at the end of the play.  Good non-call IMO.  I can understand how people can see it the other way and think there should have been PI called, but I don't think it was obviously a PI on Warner.

Anyway, another thriller in 49er land.  Incredible that the last 5 games literally came down to the last play of the game, with two games going to replay to see if the receiver broke the plane.  One goes against SF by an inch or two and the other goes for them by an inch or two.  Good chance for a 3rd game against Seattle and a good chance they see the Saints again if they win that game.  NFC playoffs will be entertaining for sure.

True

I just think it was a crappy call based on the fact that he was in front of the play and couldn't see the runner got tackled.  Wasn't a cheap shot and the DB could see he was gonna block and protected himself.  Also, wasn't blatantly after the whistle.  Maybe they wouldn't have converted the 3rd and 3, but a lot easier than 3 and 18.

Glad it didn't impact the final score at the end.

I agree that it was not egregious.  I would have had no problem with them not flagging the incident as it was not dangerous, did not arise from bad intent nor recklessness, and it did not impact the outcome of the play though it likely did impact the outcome of the game.

As for the non-pass interference call in the end zone, well I can buy the fact that there was mutual hand fighting, mutually initiated contact.  What I cannot overlook, however, was that the defender had the receiver hooked or grabbed by the outside of his shoulder pad, outside the frame of his body, and was clearly pulling him away from the ball.  It has always been a demarcation for officials when the hands are out there and it was easy to see.

In the end Seattle blew its chance by taking a delay of game.  This result is on them.  Inexcusable.  Calls cut both ways, but coaching failed in the end.

Perhaps you have uncovered an as yet undiscovered tactic The teams should start scouting for.

kidding aside, that was a ridiculous penalty. In many decades of watching football, I’ve never seen a center called for laying a block on a play like that. and it wasn’t long after the play was over, it was literally a split second after the play was over.

Also worth noting that the defender continued play as well as the center. So it’s not like he was just out there blocking a helpless tackling dummy.

context matters.

This is the correct answer.

Pete being Pete

He seems hesitant in big situations. In the Super Bowl he seemed to panic when Belichick didn’t call time out as expected right before the pick. I don’t watch Seattle other than the two games a year against the 49ers and some playoff games but Seahawk fans talk a lot about his poor game management and the fact that he wastes a lot of time outs.  Was definitely the case last night.
