...and the Giants already have a 2 game lead in the NFC East!!

Let's get some love for Big Blue!!

Teams almost never make the playoffs with the toughest schedule in the league (see '05 Chargers). I didn't think they were good enough to do it, but it looks like I was wrong. Gotta hand it to them at this point.

I almost had the Giants penciled in all offseason to get to the NFC Championship.... and then I finally bought into the hype of the Cowboys and anti-hype of the Giants and took them off.

I'm glad to see them succeeding.

Good for you guys. I'm a Skins fan, and I've always liked the classy Tiki. You guys aren't out of the weeds yet though, got a few tough games left. The Eagles aren't far behind either.......

Hopefully they can win the division -- they certainly didn't look dominating yesterday, but they did enough to win. Huge test coming up this week.

But look at Indy...

@ NY Giants 6-2...Win

@ Denver 6-2.......Win

@ New England 6-2...Win

No one else in the league can sport that. Maybe the other 5 games are against easy teams but they have gone into and beaten 3 credible playoff teams. They are battle tested at this point. Means nothing if they don't follow in January but they look good right now.

The Giants have the inside track to the division title, but that particular race hasn't been decided yet. Those intra-division games are going to be brawls all year long.

And they really struggled against the Jets and the Titans. So who really knows?

So what? No team in the NFL has gone into not 1, not 2, but 3 playoff bound teams' home and won the football game.We can talk about ypc their rush defense is giving up, blah blah blah...but at the end of the day they have won 3 very tough games. Who has the Giants, Pats, and Broncos beaten? Denver beat NE in NE, that's pretty impressive...but none of these 3 top rushing teams were able to keep sustained drives and take down the Colts...they couldn't do it. And their defenses are all pretty good too. Jets...Titans...this isn't college football, a win is a win, and you can't say the Colts have not beaten anyone...they have beaten them all so far. Chicago? I don't know what they would do to them? San Diego? Maybe the Chargers with a healthy Merriman take them... Baltimore? I don't think so. There aren't a lot of team that are going to make waves in the playoffs they have not beaten. And add Jax in the mix too as they beat them and Jax is like 5-3? They are winning games against teams with winning records, you have to tip your hat to them right now...sorry for the hi-jack.

"So what" is suppose a half-way decent team caught them when they were dovetailing like this. We'd be saying the same thing about the Colts as we are about the Bears.Sure, I'll give them their due for taking care of business every week and handling the best that the league has had to throw at them, but let's not pretend they are invulnerable. Remember, most everyone was saying the same thing about the Colts last year when they were the last undefeated team, and this year's Colts aren't nearly as good as last year's Colts.

Forgot to add the Giants are 3-0 in the Division, 5-1 in the Conference.

They have already won at Dallas and at Philly and play at the Skins the final week of the season.

Ane the Giants really struggled with the Texans...
And the Texans beat the Jaguars who beat the Cowboys who were beaten by the Giants, ergo the Giants are the best ones out there . . . I think . . .

Last years Broncos had just as tough of a schedule as the Chargers yet they went 13-3.

Did the Broncos play on the road against both Super Bowl teams? Did they play the Colts at all (and on the road at that?) Their schedules were similar, but San Diego's was clearly more difficult. What was your point again?

i didn't want this to get into a pissing match with other teams. Just the goodness that has been the Giants season thus far.

According to Football Outsiders, here are the toughest schedules in the league after 8 weeks (numbers haven't been updated for this week yet).#1- San Fran#2- Tampa Bay#3- Jacksonville#4- Seattle#5- New York Giants#6- DenverI would daresay that New York probably slipped a little bit in that list, since they were just .1% ahead of Denver in the strength-of-schedule department, and they played Houston (#28 team in the league) at home, while Denver played Pittsburgh (#11 team in the league) on the road.According to your criteria, we should be giving some love to Big Orange and Blue, since they've got an identical record against a tougher schedule. :)

Part of that's lurking variables and part of that's sample size. If you look at the 3 toughest schedules in the league, teams routinely make the playoffs. The 2005 Denver Broncos and the 2002 Oakland Raiders both actually secured a first-round bye (and Oakland got HFA) despite facing the third toughest schedule in the league).

I think the point was that tough schedules do not necessarily indicate that you're going to miss the playoffs, or even miss out on a first-round bye.

I'm not sold on them. They're 6-2, but I feel like it's a very tenuous 6-2. They're 1-2 against teams that currently have a winning record, including losses to Indy and a pretty mediocre Seattle squad, as well as a victory against a 5-3 Atlanta team that currently has 167 points scored compared to 164 points allowed. Throw in how much they struggled at home against Houston, as well as the fact that it's an absolute MIRACLE that they won the Philadelphia game, and I'm just not sold.

giants homer here, born and raised in New Jersey, became die hard Giants fan at age 8 when I shook Lawrence Taylors hand in the endzone of Giants Stadium...

my jaw dropped when the schedule was released... i prepared myself to be satisfied if big blue came out of the season with a .500 record. knowing the NY press, i wondered how long it would be before they were calling for Coughlins head (replacement being the internal promotion of Tim Lewis) and the potential long term implications on eli mannings confidence if every reporter started labeling him a bust... i thought to myself, what would derek jeter do? :D

at this point in the season, boasting a 6-2 record, i think that is pretty safe to say that the only people who aren't stunned by the success are the players themselves. if things continue, i will point to the team overcoming a 17 point deficit in the fourth quarter at Philly as the defining moment.

but the NFC East is brutal and the injuries on defense are really starting to pile up. i wasn't as worried as some by the lose of Arrington, but Osi and now Strahan is a serious concern. we have adequate backups in Tuck and Kiwi but the first is injured and the later may be doubled. Antonio Pierce needs to get nasty, Gibril Wilson MUST lock down the secondary. i see potentially a very large bump for Gerris Wilkinson, the coaching staff has loved him since draft day.

Mediocre Seattle squad?? You mean the completely healthy defending NFC champions?!? I agree they are mediocre now, losing your Franchise RB and QB will do that to you.Aren't you a bitter Chargers fan anyway? ;)

You must be thinking of someone else. I'm pretty sure SSOG is a Broncos fan. And why would Chargers fans be bitter about the Giants? San Diego beat the Giants the last two times they faced each other (in last year's regular season and in the 2004 draft).

Giants = PlayoffsChargers = :tumbleweed: and they drafted a cheater.

Giants = Playoffs
Congratulations on playing in a weak division. In the last two years the Chargers and Giants have been in the playoffs the same number of times, and the Chargers have won four more games against much more difficult opponents. How did the Giants look last year in the playoffs anyway?

Agreed. Let's not be silly here- the AFC West blows the NFC East out of the water, and San Diego has been a MUCH better team since the trade than the Giants. Not necessarily BECAUSE of the trade, but for whatever reason. Also, from where I sit, Rivers has looked a lot better than Eli Manning, even if you don't even consider all of the extra draft picks that San Diego got. Also, now that FO has updated their numbers, the New York Giants have had the 16th hardest schedule to date. Denver, on the other hand, has played the 5th hardest. We'll soon find out how real the Giants are- their remaining schedule is ranked 3rd, compared to 22nd for Denver.

I don't think the giants can win their division with the amount of injuries that are piling up....darn right scary...

The Giants have played 3 teams above .500 (Indy, Seattle and Atl) and lost to two of them. The NFC East has hardly been the beast it was suppose to be.
