70's Light Rock Songs - Name Some (1 Viewer)

This song about a dog dying used to make my brother cry (probably still does). If you wanted him to leave the room all you had to do was break out the K-Tel record, and put this song on. <--- my brother. This song made my horse loving sister split.

Jackson Brown's first album is a monument to the genre:

Doctor My Eyes

Song for Adam

Rock Me On the Water

Jamaica Say You Will

Looking Into You

Yeesh - starting to get why y'all liked 'Almost Famous'. Every 'push da button' song of my young adulthood has been listed here.

Bunch of great songs listed here already and maybe these are already listed but...

Chicago - If you leave me now

Leo Sayer - When I need You

Climax Blues Band - I Love You

Air Supply - 3 or 4 songs

Not sure if R&B/Soul is allowed in here. If not, I can delete.

Just a few of my favorites:

Al Wilson - Show & Tell

Spinners - I'll Be Around

Al Green - Let's Stay Together
If you like this stuff, I have one of the most followed Slow Jams (Mostly Old School) R&B playlist on Spotify (comes up first when you search for slow jams playlists anyway). Most are from this era - enjoy if you like it:

Almost 700 songs/50 hours worth, been putting it together for years (there is a heavy dose of 90's stuff though)

https://open.spotify.com/user/1238498222/playlist/3Sj78gmtiaCooGnzHJVOzV

Billy Paul, Billy Preston, The Spinners, The Dramatics, Womack, Luther Vandross, Stevie, Teddy, etc etc
Awesome

jackson brown did a great version of pretender with csny for aa rock and roll music hall of fame thing a couple of years ago that was solid but the best was looking glass brandy just a great song that actually sounds like chest hair take that to the bank sventies bromigos

Great playlist. I knew this already without really articulating it, but as a bass player, I really dig these songs because the absence of four or five overdubbed guitar parts (often with distortion) really allows the bass to shine. And without the guitars eating up so much sonic space, the bass can be a bit busier and that leads to more interesting lines. McCartney's bass on "Silly Love Songs": :moneybag:

No truer words have ever been spoken. The man was/ETA: IS amazing!

 Sounds like a Rick that he's playing on that tune, too, and I had completely forgotten that.

Here we go with the ####in' Jackson Brown :boxing:
Come on, the guy epitomizes 70s light rock. That's what he IS.
And a guy that remains committed to the same hairstyle for over 40 years.
He has rocked that hairdo since adolescence. He seemed ageless for decades, but he now is showing some age. Prince still looks like he has been in a time capsule for the last three decades. Just recently he is finally showing a line or two under his eyes.

Yeah, I've seen some recent pics of Jackson and age is catching up to him like most. Really, I'm just jealous that he's managed to keep his hair the same all these years. :kicksrock:

Yeah, Dennis De Young was always writing these sappy ballads- "Sing For the Day" is another. It used to piss Tommy Shaw off. Tommy wanted to ROCK!
Yeah, Tommy hated the soft stuff Dennis wanted to do (and roboto). Babe was their first #1, I think, and Dennis also came out with "First Time" which was another ballad that was doing great as a single but Tommy didn't want it on the album and threatened to leave the band. Money talks I guess and those were big hits for Styx.

I actually saw Styx in Myrtle Beach, SC, last week at the House of Blues. I've seen them a few times before but this was the best show I've ever seen of them. It was fantastic.

Tommy Shaw still rocks the guitar like he always has. JY is great too.

No "Babe" or "First Time", or "Don't let it End" in the set.

My favorites of the set were Crystal Ball, Blue Collar Man, and Renegade. Was my favorite band in the late 70s/early 80s.
