You just reminded me of "Hot Tub Time Machine" by referencing the 80's, Skiing, and Walkman's at the same time."To live and die in LA" - Wang Chung. Good single but also a great soundtrack album.![]()
I used to listen to that soundtrack on my walkman when I'd go skiing - it had multiple songs that were the perfect fit for bombing runs.

immediately think of Klaus Nomi- Total Eclipse when I hear Nina.
I just could never get into her music. I appreciate her artistry and creativity, but I didn't like listening to her tunes.and then tangentially, Laurie Anderson- O Superman

Yes! You're the first person in here who knows that one. From SF area? The Planet Doesn't Mind - New Musik
Listening to the top 101 New Wave songs on Slacker and this came up.I had never heard this before. The Normal- Warm Leatherette
I guess Kraftwerk wasn't avant garde enoughThe Normal-
I first heard this song when I was in 6th grade. I had no idea what a leatherette was, so I thought the guy was singing about a warm leather rat.The Normal-
never gave it much thought beyond SMBD stuff. It concerns the same subject matter as David Cronenberg's "Crash", right?
jfc.Sorry, but Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not a good song.
His "singing" is half moan-half mumble. Would be better as an instrumental.jfc.Sorry, but Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not a good song.
just when I think you can't stoop to lower depths of cultural stoopid... there ya go.
oh. ok- I think you've nailed it here. His "singing" is half moan-half mumble. Would be better as an instrumental.jfc.Sorry, but Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not a good song.

I'll be honest- I'm happier seeing the songs that weren't the most popular songs. OP mentions "one-hit wonder" but also "deep-cuts". I don't know most of these except for the one "hit".Not even their most popular song."All You Zombies", The Hooters
"And We Danced"I'll be honest- I'm happier seeing the songs that weren't the most popular songs. OP mentions "one-hit wonder" but also "deep-cuts". I don't know most of these except for the one "hit".Not even their most popular song."All You Zombies", The Hooters
They have a great acoustic version of Something About You.Level 42 - Something about you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPHHkerFwgM
Great song, I just couldn't find where it hit the charts anywhere.Strong Persuader down?Robert Cray - Smoking Gun
"All you zombies" was their big local hit in Philly before they went national. I think their best song is "Amore"."And We Danced"I'll be honest- I'm happier seeing the songs that weren't the most popular songs. OP mentions "one-hit wonder" but also "deep-cuts". I was sticking to the one-hit wonder theme.
Check out some of the other youtubes of that session.love Peter Murphy on that cover.
You will never do this since you don't like them.. but if you watch the Joy Division documentary that was done, you will "get" Ian Curtis. His "singing" is half moan-half mumble. Would be better as an instrumental.jfc.Sorry, but Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not a good song.

I always thought Peter Murphy had kind of a deliberately affected voice, but he's the real deal. That's a pretty bare environment and his voice sounds incredible.
