80's Deep Cut One Hit Wonders (1 Viewer)

and then tangentially, Laurie Anderson- O Superman
I just could never get into her music. I appreciate her artistry and creativity, but I didn't like listening to her tunes.
definitely not for everybody.

I got really into her in the mid 80s- saw her live a few times in NYC and SF back then- great, great shows... but yeah, with emphasis on performance over music. Felt like her and David Byrne were ubiquitous at NYC Club benefit events back then too.

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

See the breaking glass in the underpass

See the breaking glass in the underpass

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Hear the crushing steel, feel the steering wheel

Hear the crushing steel, feel the steering wheel

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette melts on your burning flesh

You can see your reflection in the luminescent dash

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

A tear of petrol is in your eye

The hand brake penetrates your thigh

Quick, let's make love before you die

On warm leatherette, on warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, warm leatherette

Warm leatherette, join the car crash set

Not even their most popular song.
I'll be honest- I'm happier seeing the songs that weren't the most popular songs. OP mentions "one-hit wonder" but also "deep-cuts". I don't know most of these except for the one "hit".
"And We Danced"

I was sticking to the one-hit wonder theme.
"All you zombies" was their big local hit in Philly before they went national. I think their best song is "Amore".

love Peter Murphy on that cover.
Check out some of the other youtubes of that session.

I always thought Peter Murphy had kind of a deliberately affected voice, but he's the real deal. That's a pretty bare environment and his voice sounds incredible.

Sorry, but Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart" is not a good song.
jfc.

just when I think you can't stoop to lower depths of cultural stoopid... there ya go.
His "singing" is half moan-half mumble. Would be better as an instrumental.
You will never do this since you don't like them.. but if you watch the Joy Division documentary that was done, you will "get" Ian Curtis.

I felt the same way when I first heard JD, but that guy was actually a hell of a frontman for what they were doing.
