Leaning towards Brady...then heavy on receivers for the next 3-4 rounds then stacking up on RB's hoping for a lottery ticket. Thoughts? What are you others with the 8th pick doing?
This is a boom or bust strategy...McFadden, AJ and Gates are pretty big injury risks...counting on them to not miss significant time is a gamble...but if they all play to their potential and don't miss significant time then you're looking at a championship caliber team...definitely have to grab Mike Goodson'Grahamburn said:I love the 8 spot. My league is a 3rd round reversal, but for the sake of the thread I'll keep my thoughts on a regular serpentine.
There are 6 RBs that stand out as obvious choices to be the #1 RB overall, and with Calvin and Rodgers expected to go before the 8th pick I expect one of them will be sitting there for us. Probably Chris Johnson, Mathews, or McFadden. I'll call it McFadden.
I'm not a real big fan of the RBs available in the 2nd round other than Lynch, so if he's gone I'll probably go Andre or Fitz. There's a lot of perceived depth at WR, but I'm absolutely certain those two players will give me an advantage week to week over just about everyone not named Calvin Johnson. Andre's ppg potential should make him a great play as a WR1 in a PPR, and he could finish #1.
The RBs going between the 3rd and 7th rounds seem almost interchangeable to me. I can get Gore, Bradshaw, Turner, etc. here, but Hillis seems like he could outproduce them all and he's going 3 rounds later. I'd be hoping for Stafford in the 3rd, but if he's gone I may take Vick to lock up my last real shot for a player that could finish QB1. There are so many QBs that can be taken a few rounds later to give you insurance if he were to get injured. I think he's a great value as the 6th QB off the board.
I really want Antonio Gates this year. His current ADP in a PPR is the 4.5 spot, so unless you know your league is down on him he'd have to go here. He's the last TE I believe can keep up with Gronkowski and Graham. Glowing training camp reports so far, he's healthy, and he'll be Rivers' #1 target.
The reason you can afford to take Gates in the 4th is because there are still so many WRs available in the 5th. I'd take Lloyd if he's still on the board as his upside is enormous, but you're still choosing from several solid players here. Nice WR2 options.
I'm targeting Peyton Hillis in the 6th round of 12-team drafts. Absolutely love him in 2012. Reunited with his 2010 coordinator, team committed to establishing the run, Charles coming off an ACL tear, and on a team with a great offensive line. Great RB2 if you decided to punt the position after round 1 like I will be.
QB - Stafford or Vick
RB1 - McFadden
RB2 - Hillis
WR1 - Andre
WR2 - Lloyd
TE- Gates
4 players there with the potential to be #1 overall at their positions, and two other players that should be solidly in the top 15. Great start, imo.
AJ is nursing groinI'm a boom or bust kind of guy.![]()
As far as I know those players are all 100% healthy right now, they're all proven producers on a points per game basis, and they're all extremely talented players.
I also don't try to predict injury. For some reason it doesn't seem to bother me as much as other fantasy players. To me, every single player in the NFL is vulnerable to injury on every snap.

I'm not going to pass on a guy with the potential for 100/1,500/9 because he gets nicked once in a while.Andre Johnson (groin) took about 20 reps in his return to practice Monday.
Johnson "looked good" after his week off, according to coach Gary Kubiak.
The team hasn't decided yet if their No. 1 wideout will play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Panthers. Either way, Johnson's minor tweak looks like water under the bridge. Aug 6
Good luck with that. Great way to finish middle of the pack when DMC, Gates and AJ all miss time after they get 'nicked' up and miss 3-4 games each.AJ is nursing groinI'm a boom or bust kind of guy.![]()

Can I borrow your injury crystal ball? It'd help me win a lot of leagues if I could tell beforehand which guys will stay healthy and which ones won't.Good luck with that. Pretty solid team for sure. If I draft at 8th+ this year I will hope for a team like that.Just finished my 12 team PPR draft from the 8 holeRound 1 CJ2Round 2 Jamal CharlesRound 3 Roddy White Round 4 M ColstonRound 5 Jasson WittenRound 6 Mike Vick hate this guy, but was surprised he fell all the way here.dont remember the rest off the top of my head.
Usually it's the likes of Murray, Charles, ADP, and Forte. All 4 of those guys have big question marks. 3 out of those 4 are coming off knee injuries and the 4th guy has a very small sample size of work by which to judge him by plus he couldn't even stay healthy in college.I honestly don't understand why people keep insisting on drafting a RB early after the likes of McCoy, Foster, and Rice are off the board. I like McFadden but he also hasn't shown that he can withstand the pounding for a full season. If your league is PPR I would seriously consider taking a WR.What running backs tend to be available in round 2????
I was originally hoping to get Julio in round 3 of a ppr drafting from the 8 spot. Now I'm just hoping Julio is there at 17. People really taking him in round 1?Is Julio Jones a realistic pick at 8? How about Stafford?
