A-Rod's Record Contract ESPN Article (1 Viewer)

In this story: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3153171 detailing A-Rods new contract, a couple quotes paint Boras in a terrible, terrible light. While this is not the focus of the article, it could be a stinging rebuke, in public from a former Boras client. I wonder how this may effect Boras and how players view him.

The quotes:

Rodriguez said opting out was "a mistake that was handled extremely poorly."

"It was a huge debacle," he said, calling the timing "distasteful and very inappropriate."

A-Rod said Boras gave him the impression the Yankees weren't interested in bringing him back, which surprised him.

"Our goals were not aligned," Rodriguez said. "It felt funny to me."

He said he and Boras agreed the slugger would opt out of his deal, but Rodriguez thought the move would be revealed after the World Series.

Goals not aligned, agent going against an agreement with the player (re: timing) and calling that act "distasteful and very inappropriate"

That is some strong language aimed directly at Boras, no? (and fwiw, A-Rod does take full responsibility for the debacle in the article, but it is clear that he is also saying that his agent not only represented him poorly, but actually went far beyond what was appropriate and almost cost his client what his client wanted, big time)

The truth lies somewhere in between. He did sign a bigger and longer contract afterall.
The good thing is that extra money he will be getting will really improve his quality of life.
According to the 60 min interview last night, A-Rod and Boras are not speaking since the event. A-Rod is being pretty vocal here about the disaster and distancing himself from Boras and his tactics.I had always assumed that this Alex going back on his own thing was a ruse invented by Boras to get back where they needed to be - but at this point it seems like A-Rod may have legitimately said stop screwing up my life and career and FU to Boras.I'd love for this to have some domino effect on other players. Not like Boras will ever go hungry, but the guy deserves to be put in his place a bit. And by a bit I mean hugely.

 I can't stand Boras.

My very-uneducated guess is, that this is simply a ploy by A-rod and Boras. Boras knows he is persona non grata in the general public. His public perception really can't get much lower. By taking the heat on this, he is not damaging himself, but he is deflecting any criticism from A-rod. A-Rod now comes across as the sympathetic figure, which is something he has not had since his Seattle days.

I think it was a good PR move - nothing more, nothing less.

As mentioned, I thought this origionally. But at some point you get the contract signed and stop ripping Boras. A-Rod is putting Boras not only in a bad light, but in a far worse light than is necessary given the circumstance. In that, other players and the public who are reading about this see Boras as putting himself ahead of his client's needs in an abjectly selfish way (the timing of the announcement during the Series a prime example). That goes beyond ploy as if it were and I were Boras Id say - yo A-Rod, you got your 275 Mil, can we stop ruining my future business please?

We will see, it wouldn't shock me if it is a PR stunt...time will tell...
I think it was a ploy to get Tatum Bell motivated :ptts: Seriously, I don't think it is a ploy, but I think that Alex screwed up by listening to Boras. if you want to go back to the yanks, why in the world would you want them to lose out on 21 million dollars that Texas was giving them? It is just stupid. That being said, at the end of the day the Yanks STUPIDLY gave ARod way more than he would have gotten elsewhere AND the Yanks lost out on the 21 mil.
