A Stecker (1 Viewer)

Riptide

With R Bush now out for MNF how risky a start is A Stecker? He seems to be the starter and has a good match up vs AT but will he have to share carries with J Brown or P Thomas or lose goal line carries to M Karney?

I don't get the "risk" you guys are talking about. I don't think he's risky at all this week... his problem is that he doesn't have much of an upside.

He's a safe bet to get 80+ total yards and 5 or 6 receptions. He could explode and get you 100+ yards and a TD. If he has a bad game (without getting hurt), he'll get 50 yards and a few receptions.

 Completely agree, he will get enough opportunties, both rushes and catches, to warrant being in your lineup. You just can't expect the same numbers as Bush would have given you. And you likely had mediocre expectations from Bush....at least I did.

He can't possibly do any worse than Bush was doing. I'm actually happy Bush is totally out of the picture now. The guy was either hurt or just not very good.

I have a feeling the Thomas is going to play more than people anticipate.
As do I. If I had to choose one guy to start, it'd be Stecker, but I worry that Thomas will cut in quite a bit, especially in goalline situations.

why? did you guys see something that says Thomas is the goalline back?
I didn't see anthing that said Thomas is the goalline back. However, In week 12 when the game was out of reach Thomas and Stecker had the same number of touches. If I was the Saints coaches I would give the young guy the look to see what he has. It's just 2 risky to play Stecker IMHO.

I like Stecker this week. He faces a porous Falcons defense (121 rushing ypg) and will get most of the carries. The problem with playing someone like Pierre Thomas a lot is that rookies often have trouble with blitz pickups and there is no way the New Orleans coaching staff is going to put Drew Brees at risk.

Thomas will get some touches but I doubt they will be goalline types. At 5'11" and 210 he is hardly an imposing physical speciman (compared to McAllister at 6'1" and 232). I believe it more likely you will see FB Mike Karney get the goalline and short yardage carries. Stecker, Bush and Thomas are all the same type back. McAllister is the bull in the china shop that balances out this running game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Stecker with 18 carries (about 22-25 touches) and Thomas with 10 carries (13-15 touches) by game's end.

He's no more risky than A. Peterson (bears), Foster, F. Taylor, Chatman, K. Jones, J. Jones, etc.
