a thought about last night's NFLN game (1 Viewer)

ive read a lot of posts on this site about how bad of a play-by-play guy Bryant Gumbel and something that occured during the game that was picked up by his replacement caught my attention.

During last night's game when Mario Williams earned his 2nd or 3rd sack, he got up and did a little hula dance ... referring to his desire to earn a trip to the Pro Bowl. The name of Gumbel's replacement escapes me at the moment, but I thought he did an excellent job and understood right away what the point of Williams dance was. Anyway, my point is that as Williams was doing his little dance and while the play by play guy was mentioning Williams desire to get to the Pro Bowl this year, I couldn't help but wonder what Gumbel would've thought or said at seeing th same sight.

I personally think this would've gone right over Gumbel's head and he might have made a comment about Williams' dance but would've failed to realize what Williams' was trying to convey. Anyway, there's plenty of "Gumbel Sux!" topics on this site, so im not trying to start another one .... this is just something I thought of as I watched the game and thought I'd share.

I hate Gumbel.

Someone needs to start a myspace page named, Keep Hammond Lose Gumble and then we can all go post on it and it can go all over the internet and get thousands of sigs so that we can lose Gumble.

i check out profootballtalk.com every one in a while and they're pretty merciless when it comes to pointing out every mistake that Emmitt Smith makes on ESPN and saying how he shouldn't be on TV. Anyway, i sent an email to the editor as to why they would pick on Emmitt yet not mention one word about how bad Gumbel is at play-by-play. They seem to be very selective as to who they bash

Not only does gumbel make mistakes but he does not have a football announcers voice. He has a talk show person's voice. I swear they lower the crowd noise volume when Gumbel announcers with his weak voice.

There can never be enough "Gumbel Sux!" threads.

He also doesn't have the speed and rhythm to be a play by play guy. He's way to choppy. No flow whatsoever. Love him as an interviewer, but can't stand him as a play by play guy...

The fact that he's clearly friends with Collinsworth doesn't hurt either. I have to say that Collinsworth's dig at Hammond's weight was one of the funniest (and coldest) things I've seen on a sportscast in a while.

Didn't see the broadcast as I was at the game and forgot to Tivo it. What was the dig?
OK it wasn't *that* funny but it was pretty good. He was talking about how Brandon Marshall was fearless going over the middle, but then it's not too hard to be fearless when you're 235 pounds. He then said that by that rationale, Hammond should be *really* fearless.
