How will the lineup look with Manny out and Pierre in?

I grabbed him, but if he bats down in the lineup he may not run as much.

Pierre, Furcal, Hudson?

I'm desparate for steals and was now about to probably have to overpay for some. Pierre was dropped in my league about a week ago. Pierre's always been one of my favorite speed-only guys b/c he helps the average too and I just like the guy.

Manny might've just saved my fantasy season.

If Pierre is in the lineup, he will be leading off.

You don't bat a guy with that much speed and that high of a OBP at #8 in your lineup.

Definitely a concern, but I'm not going to wait and find out - been looking for someone to replace Bonifacio. He could bat 1st, 2nd, 8th, or 9th. I'm hoping for anything but 8th, even then he'll still play a few days/week on my team as it doesn't matter where he is in the lineup, he'll run. The solid average is nice too.

I'm going to go check to see when the Dodgers get to play Chris Young. Pierre could be good for 4 SBs on that night. I hope Young can stay healthy until then.

His OBP really isn't that good, I don't know exactly what league average is but it's not much different from 330, which is Pierre's OBP since 2005.

Grab Xavier Paul - he is better than Pierre
Eh, I'd be surprised if he netted any more than 10 HR and 15 SB full time and he a) won't play close to full time and b) will never bat higher than 7th in that lineup. His contact rates aren't anything special either.

Being a Manny owner, I did this(picked up Pierre) as soon as I heard he was suspended.

From ESPN:Paul will be promoted by the Dodgers in the wake of the Manny Ramirez suspsnesion, the Los Angeles Times reports.Spin: As the Dodgers scramble to replace Manny, Paul is probably going to be in the mix enough to warrant a speculative pickup.I don't know much about him, but he does have 3 straight minor league seasons with 17+ SBs, a little bit of power and hit .291 and .316 the past 2 seasons. Sounds like you very well could be right.I would imagine Pierre will still get alot more ABs, but this guy could have some value.

You are correct. I made a bad choice of words for that post. Pierre's appeal from a management standpoint in the leadoff position is that he hardly ever strikes out (6% career). I incorrectly assumed his OBP would reflect that, which is clearly doesn't.That being said I am still going to stand my ground on the leadoff position.

Only time Pierre will bat lead-off is when Furcal doesn't play. Furcal is entrenched as the lead-off hitter and Hudson as the #2. As Torre has already shown this season Pierre will be batting 8th and 9th. Also Xavier Paul is going to get some run. He had a great spring training and looks to be a solid player. Pierre will get the majority of the time but they aren't going to have a young player ride the pine everyday. I would expect Pierre to sit 2 games a week(this is just my guess here).

I'd be surprised if Joe Torre knows what OBP stands for. All he knows is, Pierre is fast and steals bases. That = his leadoff hitter.

Just curious..............what kind of league do people play in where Pierre is a FA????

Not available in any of the leagues I play in - mixed much less NL where he would always be rostered

It's really not surprising at all. Up until yesterday, he had 31 at-bats on the season and had only started 5 games all year. Clearly, Pierre has elite speed, but I'd say most leagues don't have roster space for a player who has been used primarily as a pinch hitter/runner so far this year. I had considered picking him up a few days ago because I was desperate for speed, but it's hard to find a spot for a guy that gets one start per week. He might have had 40 steals over the course of the season last year, but he only had 4 steals in 2 months after the trade for Manny Ramirez. He was no longer a must-own speed fantasy player with Manny in the lineup.I'm in a very advanced 14-team keeper 5x5 mixed rotisserie league with 25-roster spots plus 2 DL spots, and Juan Pierre was not rostered until yesterday. According to ESPN, Pierre was owned in less than 4% of leagues before yesterday. In Yahoo leagues, he was owned in under 7% of the leagues prior to yesterday. If Pierre was owned in your league, you were in an overwhelming minority of leagues.

 Before yesterday his value was essentially the same as Rajai Davis, I'm sure his name caused him to be rostered in more leagues than Davis but that doesn't change his actual value. He was owned in one of my 12 team mixed and my 16 team mixed before yesterday but available in my two other 12 team mixed. I grabbed him in one, but already being stacked in the OF and 1st in steals in the other I let someone else have him.

Might have more of a case in NL only leagues, where $1 fifth outfielder gambles are common (AKA Termell Sledge Syndrome)In my 12 team mixed leaguer, he was on waivers.

12 teams mixed leagueWe play 4 OF's, and two UTL positions. He was still sitting there, I PICKED HIM UP!!!(Manny owner that could use the speed)
