Addai's TD (1 Viewer)

I apologize if I'm not hip to the streets but what were the hand gestures Addai was flashing after he scored? Some personal tribute to someone? Just wondering...

I forgot the exact meaning so I checked on an LSU board. It is a Houston reference, but it's to his high school teammate that was paralyzed. Makes your incorrect conclusions post even better. I remember them doing a segment on it last year on ESPN with the guy that was paralyzed.
owned

 and the finger across the throat gesture = "Live long and prosper"

Amazing what a little research prior to jumping to conclusions can do. Probably a good thing that someone thought to ask. Maybe it'll generate some money for spinal cord injury research / support.

You have to exert effort to do that, and that's a problem for some . . .

Exactly. Loooking over the websites, there are a lot of people giving this same sign. I did not realize how many people in SW Houston are supporting spinal cord research. With all the jewelry they are wearing they must be quite affluent, and should be able raise big money through their respective charity ventures.

Whatever it means to him, it is a gang sign that has become so widely accepted that people forget or overlook what it started as. Just like tattoos and nose piercings became mainstream so too have thug/gang symbols. As a matter of fact, saggy pants are a gang sign if you trace it to it's source. Originally gangsters that went through jail would show off their prison issues boxers by letting their pants hang low to show they were bad enough to go to jail, and thus a fashion trend is born. Same thing with the eastside/westside hand signals. Now white chicks throw them up at every picture opportunity. But the simple fact is that the hand symbol Addai flashed IS a gang symbol, even though that's not his intention in using it as such and although it no longer means that everyone flashing it is a thug or gangster. I love what he's doing, especially considering I am recovering from spinal surgery myself, but I would prefer (or at least think it would be more effective) that he use a different symbol since it is obviously so easy to misunderstand by a majority of the football watching public. I would think that a majority of people that see him do that will think, very naturally due to the origin of his signals, that he is flashing some thug stuff and not think to jump online and look up what/why he's doing it.

Before I get blasted, I could care less what he does in the endzone as long as it isn't some self aggrandizing nonsense that he runs away from his teammates to do. My only issue with endzone stuff is that it took 10 other guys to get the ball across the line and running away from them to ham it up for the cameras is poor sportsmanship, IMO. The league should let rehearsed celebrations as long as it involves more than one person. Group celebrations are fun.

Hmmm...While I, too thought the "saggy" pants gangsta thing was derived from prison issue pants, I thought they hung low because the inmates weren't allowed to wear belts that could become instruments to hang themselves with. I had no idea they were flashing their 'wears. How ####. NTTAWWT of course. :goodposting:

It's after they get out, not while in jail. To show everyone on the outside that they have gangster bonafides by getting through the prison system. Everyone in jail has prison issues chonies.

Whatever it means to him, it is a gang sign
Correction: It WAS a gang sign. Your post clearly illustrates how it's lost any and all meaning to gang life. If you're so scared of the sign, I'm sure you've also removed every blue or red article of clothing in your wardrobe, since they too were once indications of gang membership.

It still is a gang sign to this day. The hardcore gangs could really care less about sorority girls' habits, they still use signs like that to communicate and identify themselves. Just like they still sag their pants despite every white middle class teenager in America doing it.Red and blue clothing existed pre-Bloods and Crips. It's a ridiculously stupid and argumentative statement, and btw, they still are indications of gang membership which makes you wrong again.

I never said anything about being scared or even disapproving of it. But don't let what I didn't say stop you from making a personal attack on me.

My point was that a majority of people watching him are going to incorrectly think he is giving gang signs when he is in fact showing love for a great cause. But not once in my post did I say he was a thug, that I was scared of gang signs, that he was wrong for doing so or that he should stop. You just wanted to be an argumentative ### and put a bunch of meaning into my words that weren't there so that you could act like a sarcastic little #####. Have a great season, I think you're a really cool and smart guy and your posts ought to be enshrined in a literary hall of fame. Maybe we can even name it after you, you're such a contribution to reading comprehension and debate.

In 99 the Rams had a dance they would all do together.. the name of it escapes me right now, but in the playoffs they did it so many times against the Vikings that Dennis Green got the NFL to ban group celebrations in the off season.

It always amazes that people who know NOTIHING about gangs think they are experts because they watched something on 60 Minutes 3 years ago. Seriously, middle America, relax. It's a show of support for a childhood friend and has nothing to do with gangs. People have been using hand gestures to mean things for much longer than the recent rise of gang signs. Hook 'em Horns.. gang sign? Peace two fingers... gang sign? V is for Victory... gang sign? Seminole Chop... gang sign? Carol Burnette pulling on her ear..gang sign? the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit... gang sign? The list goes on and on. Please stop pretending to be experts on stuff you know nothing about and jumping to conclusions because to you it looks like something you've only heard about.

I hate people who jump to incorrect conclusions.

I remember that same segment on ESPN and I think your right. I can't remember exactly, but doesn't he support him and his family or something? That segment on ESPN was a great feel good story and it really makes a incredible statement to who Addai is as a human being. For all those previous posts implying thug life, if your serious, that is some bad posting there people. Addai is not a thug and doesn't carry himself like that in any way shape or form.

I think he was signing the number "3", as if to say, "Y'all better upgrate me to #3 on the fantasy rankings."
