Adrian Peterson reportedly could need surgery after re-injuring his collarbone at the Fiesta Bowl.

He disclosed the injury at the NFL Scouting Combine, although it didn't slow him down during drills. A second team thought the re-injury was "minor" in the scheme of things. He still seems to be a surefire top ten pick.

This ranks right up there with Ginn's foot injury. Teams know about it. Teams know they will be 100%. Teams know what they can do. Teams pretty much don't care.

The last few days before the draft are always fun.

We're through the looking glass here people.

Some of what we are hearing is true. Some isn't. I can't really say how to tell the difference.

 I'm awaiting the rumors to start about Calvin Johnson's Siamese twin.

Anyone besides me wondering how this kid's collarbone is going to hold up over a 16 week season in the NFL?

If I had to make a bet, I'd say this "revelation" came through one of three places - Atlanta, Buffalo, or Green Bay. :banned:
I was thinking that too. The problem was known by all at the Combine, but this latest surgery blurb seems timed to drive him down in the draft. It's likely just noise from a writer though, who has run out of new draft-related things to write about by now.

Put me on that list. I say that because it was reinjured. That's where the red falg is. I wasn't worried at all until I read this. Now I'm concerned that it could be an ongoing issue.I'm sure we're in the minority but what can I say. I love this kid's talent but there is reason to wonder if he can hold up to the pounding he's going to take. They hit alot harder in the NFL.

I still don't see how a twisted ankle that led to missing four games and a freak collarbone injury leads to the label "injury prone."

The bottom line is that he has never played a whole college season w/o getting injured. I recall a while back hearing that teams are concerned about it.

His lateral quickness concerns me more than the injury concerns. Think he'll be fine, may miss a few games here and there but none of his injuries strike me as something that's gonna have long term consequences.

I guess it all depends on your risk/reward threshold. What can I say, he seems worth it to me.
This may sound contradicitve but while I am concerned about his injury history becoming a regular issue, he's worth drafting to find out. I seriously doubt that a team will avoid him over this. Unless there's more to the story than we know as of now.

WOW, this is not good news at all.I would be very cautious about crowningthis guy as the next FF RB stud.
I'm glad someone else is going to find out. I'll take 1 of several other players in the NFL long before this guy. I'm confident he'll do well if healthy and if he lands in a decent situation.

This guy is going to be a huge bust.

From day 1 he'll be have 260lb LBs teeing off on him. His shoulder/collar bone are major concerns. Since his freshman year it's been all down hill.

This is looking more and more like a clear case of "damaged goods". Anyone think he falls out of the top 10? Top 15?

If a collarbone injury happns twice, is it double freaky?
No. It means he rushed back from the initial injury to play in a game he shouldn't have.
Ok. But add in the ankle, and the dislocated shoulder, and a running style more Earl Campbell than Barry Sanders, and there's cause for concern, yes?

Hobbs?
Talk about poisoning the well! Imagine the effect of the rumor. You'll have to pay the signing bonus twice, and you're always going to get flagged for 12 men on the field.

How exactly do you reinjure a collarbone? You either rebreak it, or else its healed. Considering the SI article that is the source asked Peterson directly if he hurt hmself in the bowl game and he said he was completely healthy and all the rumors that fly this time of year, Im calling BS.

Or he's one preseason hit away from going on IR.

If I knew I was drafting Peterson as Earl the Pearl Campbell and knew I'd only get a handful of seasons, albeit great ones - I'd do it. I may be in the minority, but I'd do it.

Every player is one preseason hit away from going on IR.

What if you knew Lynch was the next LT, and Calvin was the next Rice? Who ya taken?

Well MY mind's changed.

Lynch's stock is skyrocketing.same is true with M. Turner's stock: if this AD news is true, it almost assures MT of being traded on draft day.

The speculation really needs to stop here. Check it:

(1) Teams have already known about this for a couple of months. It says directly in that article that he disclosed the re-injury, or whatever it is, at the combine. If teams were concerned we would have been hearing plenty about it -- not just 2 days before the draft.

(2) Its not a huge concern as he did all of the drills at the Combine. If you think you can go through the combine with a major injury to your collarbone, you're kidding yourself. Collarbone injuries slow sedentary people down; you think he could absolutely tear up the combine? The point here is that he was almost fully recovered at this time.

(3) So, you think that he could do the combine, but feel hes going to be an injury concern. according to many websites (ie, http://www.shouldersolutions.com/ac_4.php) it can take an adult up to 4 months for it to heal. If he reinjured it completely at the fiesta bowl , and needed a full 4 months to recover (highly unlikely) , he would be fine for April 1st. He has until July to make camp. I think he'll be fine.

Also, Collarbone injuries aren't ones that will typically be re-injured. How many guys do you hear in the NFL that broke their collarbone? He simply won't have enough stress on it to hurt it again, even if it was a chronic problem (which it certainly is not).

His upright style won't add to this injury problem either; it *could*, if anything, add to injuries such as bruised ribs, knee ligament problems, etc.

:Charles Rogers down:?
Rogers showed great poise as he caught 22 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns during his first five games of the 2003 season, before breaking his collarbone while practicing a speed drill with Dré Bly. He was out for the season. He was expected to come back and have a great season. However, in the third play of the 2004 regular season, Rogers suffered another broken collarbone, and was once again out for the season.

This will scare some teams away.
:banned: How could it not? I would think the collarbone is an important area for RBs in particular seeing as how the entire shoulder area absorbs most of the force when getting hit. We may have to hold off on AP's HOF induction. :lmao: OTOH, AP may be trying to push his draft position down to land in a better situation. Who would want to get drafted early on a poor team with an iffy collarbone only to get crushed early in the pre/regular season and end up on IR right off the bat?

Another interesting analysis by PFT, and it fits in with the "Quinn to Oakland" story. When you realize that Quinn & Peterson are both represented by the same agency, the timing of this stuff starts to make sense.

PETERSON REPORT REDUCES HEAT ON CAAOn the same day that it was first disclosed that quarterback/CAA client Brady Quinn has received a contract offer from the Raiders to become the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, Don Banks of SI.com reports that running back/CAA client Adrian Peterson re-injured his collarbone in the Fiesta Bowl, and that he'll miss all of the offseason workouts of the team that drafts him.All 32 teams have known about the re-injury since the scouting combine in February. So why did it come out now, on the same day that it was first reported that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wants to clamp down on breaches of confidentiality? Here's our theory/hypothesis/idea we yanked from our anal cleft: We think that, with the Browns widely believed to be choosing between CAA clients Quinn and Peterson at No. 3, the well-timed disclosure was made by CAA to help take steam out of talk of conflicts of interest and other unsavory matters. In light of Banks' report, it's now obvious that Peterson won't be drafted at No. 3. And with coaches installing much of the offense and defense in the offseason program, Peterson's absence will definitely impact preparations for his rookie season. Though Banks thinks he won't get past No. 10 to Houston, we think this could drop him to the Bills at No. 12.

Does anyone doubt that teams have gotten Peterson's medical records and have already made their own determination on this issue? I'm strongly doubting CAA is poisoning the reputation of their own client in order to "help take steam out of talk of conflict of interest." That theory makes no sense.

If true,| I doubt this changes either of these things. Lynch's stock has been falling. Buffalo and Green Bay, the two teams that seemed the most likely landing spots for Lynch, were probably not thinking they had a chance of Peterson falling to them (although who knows maybe this originated in Buffalo to get AD to fall to them), and Tennessee, the main candidate to trade for Turner, also had no expectation of taking AD.

Ted Ginn's injury is not what is going to make him fall out of the first round, he has a long way to go to become an NFL WR, I predict he will be no better than the 6th WR taken.

I'm all for this rumour. Even if it is slightly true and it effects his draft spot and he slips. The Bills organization and Ralph Wilson are not new to taking on risks with injured RB's. They drafted McGahee when people thought they shouldn't. And now I hope they somehow land the best RB in the draft because people are a little worried about this injury stuff.

Marv Levy rules. If the Vikings don't get AP, I hope the Bills do.
