Adrian Peterson (1 Viewer)

After a 14-2 season, I'm in a unique situation keeper wise with a number of great options but I can only keep 3 out of the following players (with a two player position limit):

AP

DWill

CJ3

Brees

Peterson was my rookie keeper last year (which we can protect for 3 years) so CJ3 could take that spot heading into next year which means I either keep Dwill or AP given the position limit. This raises a question.

I am alone in feeling a tad uncomfortable with Peterson this year? There are a number of reasons I am being cautious:

1) I watched a lot of the Vikings games and it didn't seem like they utilized him like they should in the red zone. Given the fact that they made the playoffs, I doubt Childress is going anywhere. Can we really expect that to change?

2) The offensive line seemed ineffective at times since some teams challenged the Vikings to throw (at times with great success). Jackson will likely be the QB heading into next year -- ugh.

3) Peterson's fumbling issues we're maddening late in the year and we get penalized like most leagues for turnovers.

4) He has sustained a lot of punishment this year due to his running style and the number of carries (over 400 with the playoffs). It has been well documented on this site that there is a heightened possibility for a performance hit the following year.

Given these factors, it will be hard for me to let DWill go even though it seems that AP is the consensus #1 pick next year.

Does anyone else feel this way about AP or am I over thinking this?

Nice job disguising your who do I keep question. :)
That wasn't my intent. I just felt the need to frame the reason for the question. Otherwise, most would feel I'm being ridiculous even asking it. :hot:

I got the same problem.

I have to keep 3 between:

ADP

SJAX

DWILL

AJ

RMoss

I might shop ADP around to see what can I get in return.

You would be an idiot if you got rid of Peterson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In a season where he failed to have any huge breakout games with multiple TD's he still faired very well with over 1700 rushing yards and he is the center piece of the offense. DW has Stewart and Smith. I can see DW going from a 20 td season back to 8-10 tds next year.

There seem to be a bunch of threads popping up of trading Peterson or keeping the likes of Chris Johnson, Slaton etc. over him.

As I posted in another similar thread, someones the smart thing to do is also the obvious thing to do. Even with sharing some of his carries with Taylor, even with a numskull as a coach, even with a limited role in the passing game, his floor and ceiling are higher then just about anyone else. That isn't to say that he is a lock to finish as the #1 RB in all formats for the foreseeable future, but there is no one else who I like the chances of more.

in a PPR dynasty league I just shipped Peterson for Steven Jackson and Dwayne Bowe. Needed WR help and if Jackson stays healthy I think he is comparable to ADP in terms of fantasy value in ppr.

I would keep Peterson, though unless a great offer came along -- if you're really uncomfortable with him I'm sure you can find an owner in the league who will pay top value for him.

Well, the thing you have to look at with Peterson is that he didn't really have any huge days this year. I really wasn't wowed at any point this season while watching him, yet he still ended up with 1750 yards and 10 TDs. Really, that is incredible when you consider that almost every performance he had this year was an "average" ADP day.

DWill will lose more carries to Stewart next year. It was almost a 50/50 split until Stewart got a little banged up halfway through the year. CJ3 looks amazing every time he's on the field, yet as long as Landwhale is still in Ten, he'll never finish with more than 10 TDs. Peterson would've have more TDs except that many of Chester's TDs came after long runs by Peterson where he went out for a breather. As for the fumbling, I fully expect ADP to take care of that this offseason. Last year everyone was worried about his below average pass protection and he came into this year and looked very good when pass blocking.

I think you better call 911 fast.... Operator:"911 operator How may I help you????....You: "uh-yeah" I don't know what happened, but I can only think maybe I was hit in the head or something??? Operator: "Are you okay do you need a ambulance?"You: "I'm fine, but I woke up in this cold tub of ice and my Adrian Peterson is missing.Operator: "Sir, just calm down help is on the way. Have you had your head examined lately???You: "No, Why??? What does that have to do with my Peterson missing??Operator: "Forget it sir we will send a couple of guys with a jacket, I mean stretcher for you. Just hold on we are on the way.
 Awesome! May come back to haunt me but right now I like the deal.

seems like you could have done better imo, I would think an owner of jackson and bowe would jump on that offer every single time.

you may be right, but in our league Peterson was the 10th best RB this year and doesn't seem to catch the ball much (a bit deal in ppr leagues). SJax was about the same in points per game, he just missed time for injury. Objectively speaking, footballguys has Peterson as the #1 dynasty RB, Steven Jackson 4th and Bowe as a top 12 dynasty WR, so overall it seems reasonably even to me. Sorry for this hijack, wasn't intended!

Peterson is a stud for at least the next couple of years. The fumbling will be taken care of and really considering Peterson was the offense this season, facing 8/9 in box, facing run blitz after run blitz, and no real QB to speak of and still lead the league in rushing. I have to think he's a big reason why you went 14-2 this season. I know he's a big reason why I won my league and unless there was some totally off the wall offer and I do not know what that would be, but I can tell you it's A LOT better than Jackson and Bowe. Don't over think this. You just hold on too Peterson and enjoy winning more games in your league and even if the bubble begins to bust there's always going to be some guy willing to give you a decent deal even when it's clear that he's on the downslide. There's always someone out there willing to go after a used up stud, but that's not Peterson right now so hold on tight to your purple people eater and watch the destruction.
Yeah, that is sage advice. Trading players on the down slide is an effective tactic I've used many times - first with Priest Holmes and then Larry Johnson this past year. I traded Peyton Manning to get the first pick in the draft, which is how I got Peterson last year. With the exception of a few misfires, I've pulled all the right strings and my league is about ready to hang me with them. But that is a post for another day.It seems the general consensus is to hang onto Peterson due to his upside. The tougher call then will be DWill or CJ3. CJ3 has the edge right now just because I can protect him for the next 3 years in the rookie slot. On the other hand, DWill looked damn explosive (even splitting carries) and I love his running style. I guess it is a great problem to have and probably can't go wrong either way. Luckily I don't have to make the decision until next Summer so I will watch what happens to the Titans and Panthers supporting casts and hopefully the decision will be easier at that point.

He's who you trade up for. I would probably trade any 2 players to get him.

In a keep 3 I believe its about the studs. There is so much available that you can fill your roster every year if you are in the top 1/2 of drafters in your league.

Your draft is going to be peppered with the KSmiths, PThomas's and Willie Parker's of the RBs, position yourself properly and you'll end up with the roster you need to win.

I'm in a keep 2 PPR league and have ADP, CJ3, DWill. ADP is my no brainer keeper. I'm struggling between CJ3 and DWill. I'll probably go with CJ3 as he is younger and has less of a threat breathing down his neck (Stewart is more of a threat than Lendale). However, I'm considering DWill. He was a flat out stud this year. I wouldn't have won my league without DWill. CJ3 was actually replaceable down the stretch, but no one got me points like DWill.
