Advice/Draft Strategy for a League with no Waiver Wire after Week 13? (1 Viewer)

Hey guys I'm in a few money leauges where there is an odd rule about the waiver wire process.

Here's the catch:

Week 13 Playoffs start

BUT

After Week 13, The waiver Wire will no longer be available. Meaning I can't get anyone off of waivers after week 13.

So my question is, Before i go into the draft is it a wise strategy to avoid drafting players on conservative teams that already clinched the playoffs.

My fear is that I will have a few key starters on my lineup that won't be playing weeks 15 or 16 because their team already clinched.

Should i account strong teams that will clinch early in my draft strategy. Or should I just draft studs and when week 13 comes by, predict which pickups will be major in the fantasy football playoff stretch.

Hopefully this makes sense.

Thanks for any responses or those of you who read this!

Nobody sits in week 15 and 16 anyway. Week 17, yes. Weeks 15 and 16? Nah.

Beyond that, you DO have waivers for 13 weeks. It's not an intelligent move to let that change your draft strategy pre-week 1.

This rule has no effect on your draft. It MAY have an effect on your waiver pickups week 11 or 12.

Thanks that's what i thought. I felt a bit stupid for asking this question. I just have never seen a league that would shut the wire down after week 13.

I play in one....and this is my last year in it.....a stupid rule

We have no way of knowing who will make the playoffs, so you can't predict who would be benched. My advice would be if your main qb has a good backup and your qb2 is iffy, grab your qb1's backup. A great example would be Stafford owners. This is also the time to grab rookie RB's on bad teams who will be given more of an opportunity to shine the last couple weeks of the season so a team can see what they really have. A guy like Kendall Hunter could become a good value play if the 49ers are out of the playoff picture.

I see no reason to approach the draft differently. Your roster moves after the midpoint of the season may be impacted (i.e., add a 2nd kicker or shift depth to create a more balanced roster).

I love the fact that playoffs in the league are not ruined by someone getting a lucky waiver pickup during the playoffs.

It makes perfect sense to me to have no waivers after week 13, have proper backups and this does not become a problem.

I'm in a league that has no moves after week 13. We like it. The only real way it changes my strategy is I carry two kickers in case one gets hurt.
