Footballguy
Hello everybody,
First off, I wasn't sure whether to put this in The Shark Pool or Footballguys Free For All, so I'm sorry if this has to be moved.
I got into football about five to six years ago. I have been learning as I watched, I know the rules, the terminology, etc. I know the difference between play action and a draw, I know what it means to put a receiver in motion, I know about Sam, Mike, and Will and the difference between man coverage and zone coverage, I know the route tree. However, I am fairly clueless when it comes to understanding which plays work well for which situations, which defenses, etc. I am looking for a way to learn the nuances of the game, to know what plays work well against a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense, how should the quarterback change the play at the line when he says the defense is in man- or zone-coverage. How do you recognize the later? You get the point.
My problem is that I find it very hard to find a way to learn more about football outside of basic 101 guides when you don't have a chance to actually play the game. As an international, I never had the chance to play football in school, but I want to learn more about the game anyways. I was wondering if you might be able to give me some advice what books or websites are good for learning more about football? That would be awesome.
Thank you for your advice.
