Airfare for unknown companion (1 Viewer)

I will be heading to Europe from NYC this summer and want to bring a companion.  However, I am not exactly sure who I will bring.  Can I buy a ticket without specifying who until a later date?

No.  But some airlines allow tickets to be transferred.

I don’t think this is “normal,” but you should just call the airlines and ask. Ticket transfer as mentioned earlier might be your best bet, but not all airlines allow that either.

Just ask this guy. He travels with different companions all the time.

can you elaborate on this?

As much as escort would be easier then real women, I am not sure who I am going to have go with me.  Tickets are cheaper now that they will be closer to the time I travel, so I just wanted to buy them now and decide later who I bring.

I guess I could just make sure the airline allows transfers, my only concern then would be would that original name be visible on any ticket (don't want to have the moment of "Wait you wanted to bring someone else" LoL)

so use your sisters name or siblings name and say you bought the ticket hoping they would go but you could not be sure........ or buy two tickets - both in your name - use your middle initial on one... IDK if that would work or not, but why not try?

Good idea, I think airline allowing transfers is key!

Thank you!!!!

Most airlines do not allow transfers to other people for single or small purchases. Look at any ticket and it states right on it "not transferable". One exception I know of is group purchases for large numbers of people (think company functions, basketball teams, etc). They do allow name changes but it needs to be ahead of time due to having to update the passenger list and other things.

Update..no most if not all airlines will not allow transfers to other people. Wife works for an airline.
