Albert Haynesworth to New England (1 Viewer)

The Pats will use him in different ways than the Skins, they don't run a traditional 3-4 the way WAS did.

But any team that runs a 4-3, they couldn't have come up with better than a 2013 5th rounder? For a true wrecking ball at DT? That's just dumb (including my Raiders in this).

Would he take plays off? Sure. This isn't some lunchpail guy, getting by on effort. This is probably the most physically gifted DT in the NFL. Who cares if he takes plays off? So platoon him. If he plays 25 plays, 6 or 7 will be plays when he completely blows up the offensive line.

The other thing I am thinking is that Haynesworth was SO miserable in WAS, the next team to get him, assuming they don't put him at NT, is gonna seem like paradise, and get Happy Albert for at least a year.

2013 5th round pick? Unreal. In two years, during Day 3 of the draft, we should all look at the remaining players and remember, "Our team traded Albert Haynesworth for one of these guys...."

Washington has already paid him all of his bonus money, including a check for $21 million last spring. Per Shefter, his salary for 2011 is $5 million. The Patriots play multiple fronts, and Haynesworth is versatile enough to even play some end in some situations. I doubt he's a full-time, every-down player. I'm guessing they are aware of what Haynesworth is willing/unwilling to do, and if he turns out to be a #####, they cut him for nothing. Patriots lose a 5th round pick in 2013, which they regularly produce out of thin air every draft day anyways.
exactly. :goodposting:

I was questionable with the Pats draft strategy this year.

Not anymore, the pats run a hybrid 3-4 they will often have a 4th lineman out and this move is perfect.

Get one of the best DTs in the league for peanuts. Ill never question Belichick again.

I'm betting the Pats flip him for a 3rd next year (probably to Philly) and make the Skins look really stupid by having a higher pick for Haynesworth then the Skins in the same draft (2013).

Wilfork will make him a better player. Good luck running up the middle on the Pats this season. Ouff.

3 SB wins and a 16-0 season weren't really enough I guess.

Im a Pats, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick fan. But I was completely baffled by their draft this year. Take two running backs not named Mark Ingram, a TE to replace Crumpler, some Oline and another CB.

my guess is the Pats make him buy into their team goals. he either does this or he gets cut. they wont stand for antics me thinks.

if he is motivated we know what he can do.

Worth the gamble IMO, trade a 5th for a guy that could be a difference maker. My gut tells me he never really makes a huge impact here but I can't blame NE for swinging for the fences.

Slightly off topic...if the Jets get Nnamdi Asomugha, what will the average score be in NYJ/NEP games?...7-3?
Completely off topic, but it would be around 40-3. Pats dont need to throw downfield to win games, jets on the other hand cant throw downfield.

Pats traded for Albert Haynesworth (TOPIC) to improve defense, Jets looking to sign Nnamdi Asomugha to improve Defense...asked (in a round about way) if the games between them would be low scoring because of improving defense...slightly off topic :suds:

Did the Haynesworth trade prompt the cutting of Ty Warren? If so, count some cap savings and whatever player(s) it brings as part of the Haynesworth acquisition.
