Alex Smith wll start week 14 (1 Viewer)

Barrows posted this morning that he thinks this move is an indication that Mike Johnson convinced Singletary to go to a full-time spread offense with Gore hurt. We'll see.
Makes sense. Gore to Westbrook/Dixon is a major downgrade. But I thought they were capable of moving the offense after the Arizona game. They were terrible vs Greenbay but that was a good defense. I guess they ultimately decided that they cannot rely on Westbrook/Dixon. Looks like they will air it out now.

Did you really accuse someone of cherrypicking and then use wins of all stats to say troy smith is better. Wins are completely useless.

Anyway every time i've watched alex smith ive been impressed. i bet he does well somewhere else probably a place with a less frenetic head coach and fanbase. seems like there are very emotional/unstable fans in san fran judging by this thread too much estrogen or something there.

No, I actually said it's:Wins, Y/A, Y/C, QB%, TD/INT, and RuY vs. Y/G and completion %.You tell me how the balance of that favors Alex Smith. As for the rest, I sincerely hope you get your wish and Alex Smith gets traded to your team (assuming you have one) and you get to watch him start for the next six years. Alex's fragile self esteem definitely needs fans with your maturity.

Don't worry, I'll answer for you: Niners have outscored their opponents 37-36 under Troy Smith when the Niners were down by 7+, and had a 2-2 W/L record.

Whereas, when your golden boy of "equal value," Alex Smith, was behind the helm, Niners were outscored by a staggering 54-32 and had a 0-4 W/L record - even with Alex Smith's garbage time TDs he still performed far worse than Troy.
You appear to be confusing me with someone who thinks Alex Smith is a good QB. I don't think A.Smith is any good and I'm on record as saying that for several years now (and got a lot of crap from Niner fans about it). But I also think that T.Smith isn't any good, and the typically delusional Niner fans are seeing something that doesn't exist.
Troy Smith has had three bad games in a row; it just happens that the Niners won one of them handily, with Smith going 11/23 with 1 TD and 1 INT, and almost another fumble that would have put Arizona back in the game (overturned on review, but clearly a bad play by Troy).
I think it's more than a little disingenuous for you to claim that forward pass - even if it had been a fumble, which it was not - "would have put Arizona back in the game."
It was a stupid, stupid play at that location and game situation. It was third down at the 8 yard line; eat the ball and kick the FG, don't heave it to nowhere while you've got two guys dragging you down. If that had been a scoop and score (which it would have been if the defender picked it up on the first bounce) it would have made it 24-13 with 13 minutes left.

The team plays better on both sides of the ball with Troy Smith in there against the teams we are supposed to beat, they have more confidence in him. If the 49ers truly want to beat a weak NFC west opponent in SEA, to save the playoff hopes, you stick to the formula that has been working. I can understand a desperation QB change if we were facing a strong opponent that we knew we wouldn't beat, but SEA dude, stick with the damn formula. I don't know what team you root for, but do us a favor and tell them to swoop A.Smith away from us next year.

:confused:This bait is stinky.

Ooh yeah, they played really well in that 21-0 home loss against Tampa Bay. I can't believe you're trying to give Troy Smith credit for how well the defense plays; even for a Niner fan that's an unusual level of insanity. (By the way, the line on that game was Niners -3).

Troy Smith has played in 5 games in his entire CAREER. His qb rating is 80.2

Alex Smith, for his entire CAREER, has a qb rating of 70.2

Alex Smith for this year has a qb rating of 75.

I wouldn't exactly call TB a team we should beat, SEA and CAR are teams we should beat and we know how that went the first time around with A.Smith. Dumb plays, not being able to make easy throws, and throwing the ball out of bounds regularly when a guy is open downfield, puts the defense back on the field and chips away at moral.

Troy Smith has had plenty of dumb plays and failed to make lots of easy throws. The guy is completing less than 53% of his passes.

49ers offensive coordinator Mike Johnson said he's been limited as a play caller and with in-game adjustments with Troy Smith at quarterback.

There are 350 passing plays in the Niners' playbook and Johnson said that Smith simply doesn't have enough time to learn the playbook because the week's game plan takes priority. It's the main reason San Fran is going back to Alex Smith, who is 1-6 this season as a starter but knows the playbook well. Dec. 8 - 11:07 am et
:wall: So...they'd rather have the crappier option out there because he knows the entire playbook?

The answer that neither Smith should be a starting QB in the NFL. The 49ers need to start all over with a new coach and new QB.

Having lots of plays is overrated in a playbook. The Niners problems is their QBs can't execute the ones they have. More plays isn't the answer, better players is.That being said, I like the spread option for the Niners. Maximize the ability of Alex Smith to throw short quick passes. I would also encourage him to run more. We always hear you can't run the spread with a running QB because they would get hurt. With Alex Smith, who cares. Let him get beat up grinding out 4 yard rushing gains out of the spread formation. When he gets hurt, toss Troy smith out there as well.

I think the combination of Westbrook, Davis, and a running QB would be difficult for the LBs and Safeties to defend. Plus you can use Crabtree and Ginn to run deap routes to occupy the defense down the field. That seems to be a better option than a conventional offense for their personel.

I don't see it. Outside of Davis and Crabtree, their receivers stink; why would you want more of them on the field?

Non-49er fans:

Niner nation is fed up with Alex Smith because he's Steve DeBerg. When you need a big play, he makes a stupid play. When the game is on the line, he gives it to the other team. His idea of leadership is a hanging his head and moping off the field after another 3 and out.

However, when we are down 14, he puts together a 5 play 80 yard drive to make his numbers look good and give fans a glimmer of hope that he's "getting it." Niner fans won't buy this glimmer anymore. He's a bum and he's gone.

Simply put, Niner fans are still buying the glimmer that Troy showed in the Ram game, especially since the majority have written Alex off.
