This is what Soriano does. He gets really hot and pounds bad pitching. This hot streak might continue for a couple more days, then it is going to get real ugly. Nothing has changed with this guy. Don't get your hopes up.
I cringed at every booing early on. I love how Soriano is torn apart for not running out an assumed homer and costing the team a triple. Yet, Ramirez did the same thing the other day and IRRC he was nearly thrown out at 2nd on what should have been a stand up double.I was optimistic about Soriano coming into this season. I thought the fans turned on him way too early, even though I admit his defensive lapses were pretty awful. I'm delighted to see him doing this well and hope he keeps it up, both as a Cubs fan and as a fantasy owner.
I'll admit, I booed him earlier this yearGuy just doesn't show any hustle........zero!!!!I'm hoping the offensive production will carry over into his play in LF.I cringed at every booing early on. I understand the booing for lack of hustle and Soriano has been known to do that but Ramirez has had some issues with hustle in the past as well. I do think as his offense goes so does his defense. This team is on the cusp of being a playoff contender or being a 500 team. Soriano is a key player to determine that.I'll admit, I booed him earlier this yearGuy just doesn't show any hustle........zero!!!!I'm hoping the offensive production will carry over into his play in LF.I cringed at every booing early on. Interestingly, the Cubs announcers said the exact opposite last night during one of his at-bats. Said he is swinging at far fewer first pitches, seeing way more pitches and laying off - I think they said laying off breaking stuff low and outside, but I am not positive.Your Mom said:This is what Soriano does. He's definitely being more disciplined at the plate. I think he drew three walks in one game a couple weeks ago. Unheard of from him. Seems like he's seeing the ball very well.Interestingly, the Cubs announcers said the exact opposite last night during one of his at-bats. He is laying off the outside breaking balls and swinging only at balls he can crush. However, he has done this before the last few years in stretches. But the fact that he is doing it means he could be back to 35 or so homers this year even with some slumps. He's definitely being more disciplined at the plate. The announcers can say whatever they want, but Soriano has been the same player for his whole career. He gets hot for a week and looks like the best hitter in baseball. Then he faces some good pitching and disappears for a month. Just swung at two breaking balls in a row in the dirt. He is what he is.As a Cub fan I hope he keeps this up, but I am realistic and realize that this is what he has been his whole career.bweiser said:Interestingly, the Cubs announcers said the exact opposite last night during one of his at-bats. If it finishes out to about 35 homers, a few steals and a .280 average, I'll take it however it comes. The announcers can say whatever they want, but Soriano has been the same player for his whole career.
