Am I crazy??? (1 Viewer)

In a dynasty league I am in I have been debating trading my 2019 1st rd pick for a 2020 1st rd pick and a player of some sort.

I’m not even going to go into why or what player would be involved because it isn’t relevant to the conversation I just had.

i just had an owner argue that regardless of year all 1st rd picks are of equal value. Therefore why would he add anything to the deal.

It wasn’t even like he was trying to trade pick for pick, he just didn’t see the point in trading picks because it’s the same value.

i really just want to know I’m not crazy and this is a normal thought process I am having. Or if I need to go check into a clinic...

No, just look at this year.....Where you pick in the round is important.  Barkley was certainly worth more than whomever was at the end of the 1st. I would say this though-all early round picks and late round picks value year to year remains constant but they are not equal.

The general rule of thumb is that a pick in X round this year is worth a pick in X-1 round the following year.  So if you give up a 4th rounder in 2019 you can typically expect a 3rd rounder in 2020.   When evaluating 1st round picks in subsequent years you need to look at the likelihood of where that pick will fall.  As beerbuff stated the location of that first rounder has an impact to it's value.  Its easier to project a 2019 pick location that it is a 2020 pick location so that usually holds more value (especially if it is likely to be early in 2019).
