Am I in the wrong here? (1 Viewer)

We had a deadbeat team four weeks into the season. The commish got a friend to take control of the team without having to pay the entry fee which is $400. We just didn't want to have a dead team. Whatever, fine.

It's a points league. Start seven hitters. Position does not matter. The team has:

M. Cabrera

P. Fielder

V. Martinez

J. Votto

R. Branyan

D. Span

J. Franceour

S. Victorino

N. McClouth

The team held onto Votto until Sat. afternoon when he decided to drop him. Votto was scheduled to play Sat. night. The commish quickly snapped up Votto. It's first come first serve. I though it was fishy and without accussing anyone said it was idiotic that he would drop Votto over many of the guys he has rostered. After a few phone calls the commish decides to put Votto back on the team's roster. He also added that the team can no longer trade. Only add/drops. I suggested the team trade Votto instead of just dropping him and if an attractive deal comes through shortly to go that route. If no deal can be made the rights to Votto go back to the commish. I guess that was not good enough for the commish so he just said no trades with that team.

So of course Votto comes back and hits 2 hr's raising his average to .370 last night. Today the commish tells me the owner still wants to drop Votto.

I'm at a loss as how to proceed. I can't imagine an owner wanting to keep Votto over Franceour. We've never had to veto a move in 10 years of play. This all just stinks to me and the commish is not helping the situation. Should I just let the deadbeat team drop Votto when I imagine the commish will claim he has rights to him?

Your league should change the waivers set-up from FCFS to one to two day waiting period, possibly with FAAB.That way, if an owner wants to be an idiot and drop a player like Votto, everyone has a reasonable chance at him.

everyone does have an even shot in first come first served. unlike reverse order of standings or even a FAAB.that said, if the commish knows the other owner is going to drop votto he knows when to log in and claim him.

Had a situation like this in '07 in a league with one, somewhat active, yet consistently ignorant owner.

He dropped Roy Halladay. He was having a rough season to that point and I've never considered vetoing a trade or stopping any move, but we couldn't let this happen.

I put Halladay back on the guy's roster and gave him a week to field trade offers.

Someone offered up Matt Holliday. It was crazy at the time, but we didn't consider vetoing it. Lopsided trade, but it worked out well.

I'd do the same in this situation. Make the guy trade Votto, keep Votto, or find a new owner. I wouldn't allow an option D.

The real problem is this commish. It's wrong for him to snag Votto from the idiot owner's drop and then be a pain about the situation.

If you think he's bad, you might want to see about leading a coup to overthrow him. Fantasy baseball's a long season. Nothing to spice up mid-season like a mutiny. Even if it doesn't work, it could be fun.

If it wasn't a 10-year league, I'd suggest leaving. I'd try to get a new commish instead.

IF your league doesn't have rules regarding who can be dropped and who can't then everything goes..................BUT you can make a case that if the sub owner has no stake, then any player they drop should NOT be available to ANYONE in the league - just put them in a dead pile. No harm to anyone else in the league and allows the guy playing for free to have some fun.

In the future, if you don't have rules on the drops you should at least use FAAB for aquiring players.......preferrably on a weekly basis (so even if you have daily trannies for lineups, players dropped from any team would not be eligible for pickup until whatever day the league sets up for FAAB - usually the day preceding the start of your week. EVEN if your league likes to use waivers for free agents, you can have Dropped Players in a seperate bucket for FA bidding.
