Amazon Go stores -- I have seen the future (1 Viewer)

Amazon Go store opened up in my office building.  Went there yesterday.  So very cool and convenient and yet a little unnerving and scary.

You download the Amazon Go app and open it when you walk into the store.  You walk through a turnstile and it scans your barcode.  And that's it.  Then you just go take what you want and you leave.  You can take stuff off the shelves and put it back, and you won't be charged.  You can even scan in your friends or family and have their stuff charged to your account.  Whatever you want.  Thing is dead accurate.  The combination of facial recognition, AI, sensors, and whatever else they are using must be pretty incredible.

I have seen the future.  We won't wait in lines.  We won't have to deal with payment.  We'll just be going about our day out in the world, taking what we want.  And someone up in the cloud will tally it up at the end and charge us what we owe.

As much as it sounds cool its going to suck to be a teen , stay at home mom working part-time or retail worker

I worry about this. I have no idea what cashiers or truck drivers are going to do for jobs in 10 years.

We'll  figure it out.  We always have.

Back to op, nothing too impressive about this.    Seems like a slight upgrade to self checkout.

Yes but who will hand me a receipt to account for the $7.54 I spent and tell me to have a blessed day?

The same thing ditch diggers did when the backhoe was invented.  Smoke cigarettes and whistle at chicks while the machine does the work.
:goodposting:   This has been a worry since the beginning of automation.  Just like airplanes are being manned by pilots that don't fly them, cars/trucks will be doing the same thing for many years.  Today, there aren't enough people filling the jobs available in everything from construction to service in major cities.  If that's not the case were you live, move.
