Amazon Prime (4 Viewers)

In celebration of its pair of Mozart in the Jungle Golden Globes victories last Sunday, Amazon is reducing the price of Amazon Prime memberships this weekend. Subscribing will cost $73 — down from the regular $99 — from 9PM PT Friday until 11:59PM local time Sunday night.

As is normally the case with these promotions, Amazon is targeting them at new Prime members only. But you can finagle your way around that by purchasing a gift subscription and saving it for whenever your own existing membership is set to expire.
Don't think Amazon is biting on that one.

From from the Amazon page on buying a Gift Membership:

Looking to join Prime for $73?Join Amazon Prime for $73 (normally $99) and save $26 on your first year’s membership. Offer valid through 11:59pm PT on Sunday, January 17th. To sign up, click here Promotion does not apply to the gift of Prime.

Last night I ordered a Stanley Growler off Amazon (which now that I type this sounds like a euphemism) at 11:54 PM. They had "Free Next Day Shipping" available which it did state would be Sunday, January 17th. I said, free, sure, I'll do that. Usually the Next-Day is a small upcharge from the Free Prime shipping. So I ordered it and figured it would arrive sometime today. 7:30AM, dude calls to wake me up asking for gate code to make an Amazon Delivery. That #### got here in less than 8 hours at a lower price than I would have paid anywhere. Damn.

So I had an order that was supposed to be delivered today. It says it was delivered, but it wasn't. Shipment details are way screwy saying it was delivered Dec 2nd to a city not even close to me.

Now what? Never had this happen before

Definitely contact them first. Depending on the item, they might just tell you to keep it, especially since the rep didn't mention sending the first back if/when it arrived.

This happened to me. I ordered a cooler with a cart-stand - think it was like $130. They shipped two of them. I called them to let them know they double-shipped and the rep told me to keep both. She said it wasn't worth it to them to pay for the return shipping.

Colorado, and many other states, require people to pay a "use tax" on items bought out of state where Colorado did not receive any sales tax. Most people ignore this. Several years ago, Colorado attempted to sue Amazon saying that Amazon had to at least report who in Colorado they had sold to and what they had sold so Colorado could go after their citizens for that money. Amazon refused based on privacy rights. Nonetheless, Shukee is correct. Technically, you are dodging taxes by not reporting what you bought out of state and paying Use Tax.

Wow, up to 27 now 28 states. I think they are required to collect sales tax when then have a significant operating business in that state, not just shipping to that state. Good news is that they probably have more warehouses and shipping facilities closer to you that will mean better service, but, yeah the no sales tax is probably coming to an end for everyone eventually. Unless you move to a state that doesn't have a sales tax.

Great show. You might need to have some knowledge and interest in classical music to really enjoy it, but it's really well done.

Since the first of the year all my "2 day prime shipments" which used to be order on Monday morning get on Wednesday now are 2 day, arrive on Thursday. And there isn't the option to get 1 day shipping. BS.

I've used the Prime Now app a few times.

1 Hour is around $7 extra, 2 Hours is free. They give you windows for your purchases so the items don't actually get there within 1 or 2 hours. For example, if you choose 1 hour at 9:15am it will give a window of 10:00-11:00am, then the item will arrive around 11am, sometimes later. You're also expected to tip the courier. My app won't move forward without adding some kind of tip on.

Overall, it's a nice service. I like ordering something at work and having it waiting for me within the day.

And ability to stomach New Yorkers...I had to quit after that drinking scene in the first episode.

Amazon to start charging sales tax to residents of Colorado. It was fun while it lasted.....

Cheating on your taxes was fun?
Who cheated on their taxes?
You.
Never cheated on taxes.
Did you previously pay use tax on your Amazon purchases?

I didn't find it all that New York. It's a good show, you wouldn't really know from the 15 minutes you saw.

Best part is there's no cash involved. Tips on the app and they can drop stuff off at the door. Wish Uber would get this right. Costing your drivers money.

Used a few times as well. It's wonderful. Cheaper than the grocery store I go to and no lines/traffic

The delayed option is great . I love splitting an order , say 3 things. I'll place the 1st order for regular prime , place #2 for delayed with $1 ecredit and the same for the 3rd an so on. 95% of the time everything arrives in 1 shipment within 2 days.

Thanks Bezos

FYI...you can cash you coins at coinstar for no fee gift cards including amazon

https://www.coinstar.com/giftcards
Good to know this. I have a ton of coins around since I like to use cash for most small inner-city purchases. I got skimmed at a gas station buying a bottle of water; that bottle of water cost me about $1,200 (only about $800 was recovered).
Couple of years ago they had a promo where you got $5 in MP3 credit for every $20 in change.

Coinstar also has deals where they charge no fee for gift cards to lots of different corporate partners.

First hiccup ever with Prime. Package was scheduled for Friday. Never arrived. Filed an online claim and got a story that they were out of stock and had to ship from a different facility. No update to the tracking information though. Still no package as of today.

Updated the ticket. Now they say tomorrow but still no update to the tracking info.

Got a free month added to my account. Was going to ask for an additional month but this is only a $10 item. But it's something I kind of do need and can't just buy at any store.

Having a hiccup with Prime also. Second in a row with deliveries.

Placed an order on Saturday (3/5) afternoon of 10 books or so and a couple games and a some computer stuff. It was my son spending his Christmas gift card from Grandparents. I had the ability to get most of it (all but one book) for Sunday (3/6) delivery, no charge. The book in the other package was scheduled to be delivered today (3/7).

Fast forward 24 hours (3/6), no delivery (Prime moved delivery to 3/7). USPS site says the package is in Chester, VA, 2 1/2 hours away, just south of Richmond. (I'm just outside DC in VA)

Fast forward another 24 hours (3/7) and the package with one book that was due to be delivered today was delivered with our mail. On Amazon, the other package says it will be delivered up to the 9th (Wednesday)!

I had another purchase that was similar in nature, multiple items and the one that was supposed to be delivered first was not delivered on time.

My question is should I wait until I get the package and then complain, or should I start screaming ;) now? I hadn't made too big of a deal of the other, since the item wasn't a big deal to get in a hurry, but now getting two in a row isn't leading down a good path!

Is there a way to specify which shipping agencies are used on your deliveries? On next day items, I haven't been having too much luck with the USPS.

I also have the issue that I don't really want to drop Prime, because with my diving issues I use it all the time to make small purchases that would kill my weekends if my wife and I needed to drive all over the place.

Your packages are moving through Amazon's own logistics network, not USPS.  Chester is the location of an Amazon Sort center.   Essentially the tracking is saying it's still there and hasn't been handed to USPS yet, which will occur at your local post office and be delivered that day.

Prime doesn't move delivery promise once the promise is made.  It's possible you ordered after the original promise you saw expired.  Something seems strange if it now says it may take up to the 9th.  It could have been an out of stock issue but if that were the case, you would have been sent some type of notification.

I put off Amazon Prime for years and finally got it this last November.

Love it, love it, love it.

All the small stuff that I would need to package up to hit the minimum before and getting them within 2 days I now just order.  The video is a nice addition too ...really finding it awfully close to Netflix in quality and quantity.  Nice too - that they don't seem to have a ton that cross with Netflix.

Well worth the money.

Looks like what was probably an out of stock issue on one of the titles.
OK, that makes sense, but why not send the rest in one package and send the other(s) later?

Sorry to be a PITA. I know it's not you, and we all appreciate the info that you provide!!

Might be a box you need to check/uncheck to send the items separately.  Just spitballing

Since this past Christmas I have had 6 prime orders arrive late or not at all thanks to Amazon using USPS. Each time I have complained to customer support and asked for my prime account to be extended by a month per their Late Shipment/Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery Service. 6 months of free Prime thanks to the ineptitude of our beloved post office, thank you!

I have had a couple instances where they just sent the stuff again and let me keep both shipments.

Interestingly, I received a text this morning that the package that I received yesterday is "still on it's way and will arrive later than expected."

Likely not the USPS' fault.  When Amazon uses the USPS they are delivering it into your local post office.   There's very little from that point on that the USPS can do to screw it up.   The delays are occurring upstream of USPS.   Also, that method of delivery typically out performs UPS and FedEx on 2-day shipments.

Well in each instance USPS shows it out for delivery when its tracked and it never arrives. I also receive about 20-50 packages a day between the three majors and USPS has by far the worst failure rate. They are absolutely horrid.

   It will vary by zip and region but overall that method tracks on par or better than UPS and Fedex on 2nd Day.

Looks  like that is the store card I'm talking about and if you're prime, you now get the 5% but only if you don't take the no interest.
Nice, just upgraded. I was a bit worried about losing the promotional interest for some reason. That no interest for 6 months is clutch.
