Amazon Prime (2 Viewers)

I made this switch this week. Was a Spotify guy for a long time and Amazon's pricing seemed the same or better, but I also liked the Alexa integration (now I don't need to ask Alexa to play a song ON SPOTIFY). Upgraded to the family plan and, after a complaint email to them after they charged me full price, got the discount so that it was 119 for the year for the family plan. Now I can have my wife cancel her subscription and we'll save a few bucks.

I'm still getting used to it, but at the outset I've found the Amazon unlimited interface to be clunky and disorienting. It's slowly improving as I figure out where stuff is, but at first wasn't thrilled.  We will see.
If you set your default music player to Spotify then you don't have to specify on spotify.

How many unique logins do you get with Google or Amazon? Spotify gives you 6 for $15 a month. I don't use it as much as I should but I shared it with my wife, daughter, mother in law, and a couple of friends so at least I know it is getting well used for the price.
Think Amazon is the same but they offer an annual subscription for $150 so you can save $30.

Some tips for prime day:

Use the app: turn on Watch and Waitlisted deals under notifications in the settings.  Click on upcoming deals you're interested in to get a reminder when it starts.

If you know you're going to buy something add $$ to your Amazon gift card, Amazon is already offering $10 for first $100 dollars added.

Try the get it now promo code if it's offered for immediate delivery in your area: 10primeday.  That will give you $10 off and another $10 off on your next order.

Add upcoming lightning deals to your cart before the deal starts, if it's in your cart the price will automatically change and you're sure to get one before it runs out.

"Alexa, what are our deals?" starting at 9EST tonight. ETA: Alexa deals start 2 hours early, 7EST.

camelcamelcamel.com to see how the prime price compares to it's history on Amazon.

If you've never used amazon prime before:

$10 credit when you first install and sign into the app.

$10 credit the first time you stream a video from amazon prime video.

Amazon credit card will get 5%-20% cash back.

You know there's Spotify premium family plan right?

6 people for 14.99 a month. Find 5 others each person pays $30/year. If you and your wife want your own account it would  be $60 total for a year. Easy sign up, everyone can use their current free Spotify account...you just need to give the the sign-up code when you convert to family plan.

Can't beat Spotify at $30 per year!!!

For 99 cents, there's no reason to not try the Amazon Unlimited Service, right?  I'm on Spotify now and like it a lot.  I'm curious how finding playlists will be on Amazon .

Does the Amazon Music allow you to add music from your own library? I really like that with Spotify, being able to include music that they don't have (live, etc).

do you know how to tell which ones?

Been thinking about a 3D printer? Here's your chance to score a particularly good deal: the Reprap Guru Prusa I3 V2 for $230, a savings of 30 percent.

This US-made model features a heated 8x8-inch print bed and has a 4.4-star average rating from well over 100 buyers. One thing, though: It's a DIY kit, meaning you'll have to assemble it yourself. (That's either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you roll.)

Save $30 on Kindle Paperwhite, $89.99 At first I thought you said "Paperweight"

Save $75 on Echo Show and Arlo Security Camera bundle Link? I never knew about the Echo Show and I'm considering the Arlo

The Echo still seems gimmicky to me. Someone talk me into why I need one in my life and what it does I don't already get through my PC, tablet, phone, or smart TV.

It pairs with my Phillips hue smart lights.  "Alexa, turn on/off the living room/bedroom/porch/garage lights."    I've been trying out the unlimited music and use it to play in the garage/shop while I'm working on my projects.  It's handy for cooking; sets timers, conversions, substitutions.    Daily update and weather.

I love mine, use it all the time.  Just acoustically wise, it's actually a very nice speaker considering it's size.  Ours is set up in the kitchen - in the morning I come downstairs and say "Alexa, play (local radio station)", and there it is.  When cooking and I want to listen to some Motown or something, I just ask it and it plays.  Need to run a timer for something in the kitchen, just ask it.  Add something to the shopping list as well.  Ask it the weather forecast.  Sports scores.  Recently it got the ability to play any Sirius radio station.  Very useful little device - and I'm sure there is tons of stuff it can do that I don't even know about.

Doing any of that stuff with a PC, tablet, phone, or TV requires remotes, buttons, apps and on and on.  With Echo, you just talk.

nope - wife picked one up a month ago.  I even have smart outlets.

I use an app for the outlets and we still haven't used Alexa

Also, any reason for a fire stick? I already have a chromecast set up.
Easier to use the FireStick, IMO. And this is from someone who swore by Chromecast when it first came out. I even have 2 Chromecasts. But the FireStick/FireTV are much easier to use since they come with a remote and an easy to use interface already. Whereas with Chromecast, you're tied to your phone/tablet/laptop to control it.

The calling and intercom features are really nice too

Having multiple ones in the same house?  I haven't tried the calling features yet.
Yes. With multiple in the house, you can use them as an intercom system. Very useful, IMO. And the calling feature works with other people that also have Echos. Tried it a couple weeks ago with my brother. Pretty decent sound quality on the call.

We've cut the cord and have Hulu now and just watch it thru a firestick.  Does that mean I need to get an Echo and I can just say, "Alexa, go to Hulu and play the latest Fallon episode?"

If so, I'm in for the Echo and at least a dot.  We're on the .99 Amazon Prime Music and have used it a lot over the past few days.

Just noticed the sidebar cart has disappeared. I may be one of the only ones that liked it, but does anyone know how to turn it on/off?

Thanks!

Alexa is included in the voice control remote control for the fire stick and fire tv.  But, if you don't want to push the button I have to assume (haven't tried it) that the echo can talk to all the other amazon devices.  They have been working on commands for third party apps for over a year now.  First try "Alexa launch Hulu" with the remote and see what happens.

Just bought 2 kindle readers (not paperwhites) for $39 each.

Anyone heard anything about a FireStick going on-sale? We're traveling next week and I want to make it easy for my wife to watch GOT. :)

Are you guys browsing or putting specific items in search and hoping you hit?

I am not seeing much that I am interested in. Solar lights sound good , but I didnt see them.

Just bought an Echo. I was on the fence, BUT, Amazon finally made me an offer I could not refuse. Discounted down to $90 for PrimeDay, and further discounted another $80 by signing up for the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa (5% off on Amazon purchases). With taxes, total cost = $16.29.

We got one for free. It's pretty handy in the kitchen for setting timers and turning music/radio on when hands on dirty.

Got a trampoline for $15.99. It gave me 2 prime $32 and $40 discounts. Original around $160. No idea why, we'll see if it gets delivered.

Because you already have an iPhone, GoPro, drone, flat screen, laptop, iPad, desktop, hot pot, and Yeti tumbler.  It's next on the list.
