Andrew Walter where on depth chart? (1 Viewer)

I've been reading that Walter is getting pushed for the 2nd string QB job in Oak. How true is this and what are his prospects if this happens? With all the good news early in camp I made a trade for him and now Im starting to get worried. I new he'd be the backup going in, but liked his chances with Brooks's history. Anyone got some inside advice or anything?

I was optimistic on Walter until recently when I read:Walter probably needs another year

(Rotoworld) Raiders second-string QB Andrew Walter has reportedly struggled with his footwoork and mechanics in training camp.

Impact: Walter didn't play well in his Hall of Fame game audition either. If Aaron Brooks struggles this season, the Raiders may not be as confident in turning to Walter.

Thats definitely not the best news. However, the part about next year still has me optimistic about his Dynasty prospects then. So from what I get from this, he's worth holding on to for next year ? Or am I still overvalueing his arm and talents?

All I know is that this makes my 4th QB-to-Practice-Squad choice pretty dang easy (McNabb, Brunell, Campbell, Walter).

Walter will never be a starter-quality NFL QB. All of the hype around him is based on his performance in the fourth quarter of a pre-season game last year. If he plays against third-stringers (or Oregon State) he may have a chance.

I am a Walter owner in my dynasty as well (drafted him in initial draft last year behind Palmer and Rothlesberger).

I still like his physical attributes, but am beginning to lose some faith in him. He had a terrible camp last year, played terrible in pre-season last year, has had a poor camp this year, and didn't impress in the HOF game. Don't hear too many bright spots with him.

I believe that OAK will be out of it soon and give Walter a look at the end of the year to see what he's got. I will hold on to him until then and make a decision on his future. If he plays poor, I will look to draft a new young, project QB for my roster.

Let the Walters hype begin.

One thing that was brought up in the broadcast I want to touch on. Somehow, somewhere, Walter has gotten a bad rap for being immobile. It's simply not true.

He's not a runner/scrambler by any means, but he moves in the pocket very well. He can sense the rush & is much more athletic than he gets credit for.

I'm a big Walter guy, but he'll have to do better than that (& he will). He just oozes potential, but patience is needed. I don't think there's any doubt he starts at least the last several games this season.

Walter didn't play at all last year. I expect him to make some bad throws. He's made some good ones as well.

As to this nonsense about him having a terrible preseason last year (total BS), and a terrible summer this year, and getting pushed for the 2nd team job, provide some links.

If you thought Walter was going to push Brooks for the job, then you were overly optimistic, IMO. 2007? I'm with ya. This year? Brooks.

I dumped Andrew Walter yesterday for Bruce Gradkowski.

BG simply has more talent

You should do the same. :banned:

I agree. He's going to make mistakes, it's part of the process. I see Brooks starting the year, but don't be shcoked if by week 8 or so, Walter comes in and becomes the starter. I think they will want to know what they have going into next season.

This is bad stuff to be posting, passing off opinion as fact. I have read every article published by the beat writers since camp opened, a training camp that is closed to the public, by the way. Nothing has been said about Walter having a terrible camp. Do a search on Raidernews.com, there's little stuff about Walter there, but what is there is Randy talking about how he loves Walter's game.I do like your idea that the Raiders will give Walter the job this season though, if they're out of it.They've been out of it for three years now, and Tuiasosopo is still waiting for his shot. Shoving the young guy in there is not the way the Raiders do things at QB.
