so really i can just leave everything checked and it wont effect anything?I use this, and add it as a widget not an app. As a widget you can click the icon and it kills the apps instantly without having to go into the app itself....if that makes sense. If you use it as an app, you click and then the list comes up with all the items checked. That's one extra step than using it as a widget. As far as the ignore list, I only have my browser and Widget Locker on there. Everything else is killed on screen timeout or when i manually kill them. All your texts and gmails will still come in if you kill them. They will sync again in the background.just put advanced task killer on the droid X....i dont exactly understand what i do with it..do i leave everything checked even text and gmail or will those not come in if they are checked?
Each time you run an app, it will stay open until you close it. This can hurt your battery life because many of them will stay open in the background so you can go back to them at any time. And a lot of apps don't have a close button or quit button in the menu. You can use advanced task killer to kill the ones in the background that you don't need anymore. Just check the boxes next to the apps you don't want to use anymore, and click kill selected apps, and they will close. If you want to go back to a running application, just launch it again. It should be right where you left it.just put advanced task killer on the droid X....i dont exactly understand what i do with it..do i leave everything checked even text and gmail or will those not come in if they are checked?
If you were in the middle of an email or had your browser on a specific page when you closed it, you would lose that. But the application doesn't break, if that's what you're asking.so really i can just leave everything checked and it wont effect anything?I use this, and add it as a widget not an app. As a widget you can click the icon and it kills the apps instantly without having to go into the app itself....if that makes sense. The nice thing about the weather app as a widget is that it will use the GPS to tell you the highs and lows for the day in your area, and you can open it to see hour by hour and ten day forecast. It also gives you weather alerts, so if there's a thunderstorm coming, or a bad snowstorm, it will give you a warning in advance. My wife wants to get a droid specifically for this.Never understood the weather aps. Cant you look outside?
Agreed...I can look outside but it does not quick tell me the temp, or forecast or if I need to grab the umbrella from my car before walking up to the office. Also, not a big deal this time of year as its just hot all the damn time...but in the spring and fall its good to have first thing in the morning to know how to dress the kids for the day.The nice thing about the weather app as a widget is that it will use the GPS to tell you the highs and lows for the day in your area, and you can open it to see hour by hour and ten day forecast. ]Newer user here...but I will answer what I can.not sure on the motorola how the interface is...but on the HTC, press and hold on the screen to add an app, folder, or widget and you should get those options. My wife's samsung does not give me the same options though as far as widgets. Difference is kind of in how they work.Weather widget for example will display current conditions on your screen and update itself. Clicking it takes you to the app to see full weather functions and forecasts and such.Weather App would just look like an icon to click to get to the same functions if you clicked the widget. The widget just gives you that functionality to see updated weather data on your screen without going off the home screen and into the app.Mr. Chumley said:Got a droid x and I'm confused. http://alldroid.org/tabid/62/g/posts/m/413...G-on-FROYO.aspxSince upgrading to 2.2 (Froyo) my Swype has stopped working.
I tried uninstalling it, uninstalling the installer, and searching for any "swype" files on the device. Then I reinstalled. Still doesn't work. All I have is the crappy original interface.
I needs my Swype! Help!
An app is like any application in Windows. You can go to the start menu and run the application, or you can click on a shortcut to it and it runs. And just like Windows, you can add shortcuts to your desktop that launch applications. A widget starts up when your phone starts up. It might not do anything until you interact with it - like an on/off switch for turning your wifi on - or it might display something - like the weather widget that shows you the current temperature. But it's more than just a shortcut, because you can do stuff with it right there on your desktop, without opening up another application.Mr. Chumley said:Got a droid x and I'm confused. Looks great, but Swype is so much faster. This would be great on the iPad though, almost a "must have".Whoa!...check out the BlindType demo video....http://www.blindtype.com/
Swype might have some very serious competition.
Does Swype come with the Incredible? Hopefully, I'll be getting the Incredible in the mail and a couple weeks, and everyone seems to love SwypeLooks great, but Swype is so much faster. It actually is on some phones...and that's the way they want it to be. They'd rather have it written for and installed on OEM, not something available in the market. It is not a standard app, you need to install it.Does Swype come with the Incredible? Still getting my feet wet with Android too...my must haves so farFantasy Guru (keeps up with my yahoo baseball and will with my football too)Handcent (for texting, better than the stock texter on the evo)Yahoo MailSportsTap (sports news and scores)PandoraTV.com (will be useful later)Weatherbug (i like it better than the Weather Channel, the widget works better)Dolphin Browser (I like it better than the stock web browser on the evo)Some people will tell you about a task killer...I have removed them from my phone and my wife's and have seen no drop in battery performance at all.I just got the Incredible, switched over from a BB Storm, and this phone is a bada##. First thing I would say, make sure you keep it charged. A car charger is a must. The apps I like are Weatherbug (sends storm warnings, forecast, radar), SportsTap has every sports score known to man and you can set your favorite teams so I have the Tigers scores on a main screen and can follow them without opening anything, Twitter App if you use Twitter, Loot is a free and safe program that can balance your budget/track finances without sharing any private data, Open Table is good if you ever make reservations for nice dinners, Google Listen has podcasts, Pandora app works perfect, Yellowbook, Goby, Congress is informative if you want to closely follow our Legislative branch, Astro allows you manage your files/downloads, and Advanced Task Killer is like control-alt-delete on a PC- it allows you close applications and is essential.I just got the Incredible, switched over from a BB Storm, and this phone is a bada##. Download Radar Now, it is one a touch radar. Do you have Weatherbug set to send you notifications of storm warnings? I have that and it is by far the best feature. It has saved me from being caught in some bad storms.I'm only going to come in to say negative things about WeatherBug. It's a great looking app, and I love the interface, but they couldn't have worse forecasts. I don't know where they're getting it, but it's ruining my social calendar. We keep moving pool parties because of WB's forecast, but it's usually quite different from The Weather Channel's forecast. I do like the radar though.
Are all your BB contacts saved on yoru computer? I was using a Palm before I got my Droid and I don't remember how now...I think if you google it you'll be able to find a step by step tutorial...but I was able to import all my contacts saved in the Palm software into my Gmail contacts. Once you do that, all your contacts will sync with your phone.Anyone know how to get contacts out of a BB backup file into my Incredible? My Storm is dead, and I don't know anyone numbers anymore without my contacts...![]()

I actually figured out how to get it done...FYI for any BB users that have an issue with their current phone not workingHad to download .idp converter and use it to open my backup file, export the contact files to my desktop as .csv files, then upload them into my Gmail account, now they are synced up.Are all your BB contacts saved on yoru computer? Android Central had something on that a few days ago showing some program that would blip a random pixel on the screen and move it around so you don't ruin any one pixel.Id start there.I'm new to Android, coming from Blackberry and now have an ATT Captivate. For whatever strange reason, it doesn't have a notification of a missed call or text if the phone is in a locked mode. Has anyone come across an app that will have that notification while the phone is locked? I constantly have to unlock the screen to see if anything is missed and would like to have some sort of LED notification for missed calls or texts. Thanks.

I use fancy widget now. It gives me a clock and weather similar to the HTC default.I used to have weather channel and a seperate clock app but weather channel would always freeze AND would send notifications FOR EVERYTHING, and the only way to turn it off was to uninstall reinstall. The thing I don't like about fancy widet is to get an hourly forceast it takes you to the weather channel web page. The good think about fancy widet imo, is it gives you temp, h/l, date, time.Tap on weather to get 4 day forceast, tap on clock to open up whatever application you want - mine is set to Calendar PadCan someone tell me what launcher pro and beautiful widgets does? Also I have weather bug, free version, but it only displays the temp for anything else I have to tap it and open the app. Does the pay version give you a weather widget?

I just tried searching for it myself and couldnt find it. It still works on my phone, i wonder if it is still available. That would suck, i have my new Droid X on the way, i hope i can still get it from the market or i might have to just keep my Droid.
Man I hope so. They have an iPhone app so you would think they would create one soon.Is ESPN FF going to put out an app?
