Sometimes it's just easier and more convenient than opening up the app and typing, but it's not necessarily faster. It records your voice, ships it to the Google server to analyze it, then waits for the response. If you're not in a good coverage area, it'll take a while. I'm sure if you're in a 3G spot or have wifi on, it'll race through. And it will still get stuck on some words and mishear a few things, since i have a difficult last name to spell it often trips up and thinks I'm saying something completely different.

Dont have many apps myself but i noticed the espn has a automatic update option. Not sure if it is just that app or all have it but update all and auto is a good feature.Just wish the Droid didn't slow to a crawl since the 2.2 update. Anyone else have problems like that? Especially with a radio/music app running in the background.

If you open each downloaded app in the market there should be a box that says "allow automatic updating" so you don't even have to go through the hassle of cliking the Update All button.

Is there a way to convert all of the contacts in my phone that are stored in my phone over to "Google" contacts that are stored on my gmail?
The Google Voice commands app is unbelievably cool, but when I do a "call so and so", if it's just a phone contact and not a Google contact, it doesn't find it. Most of my contacts are Outlook synced, which become "Phone" contacts... so it renders the voice dial part of Google Voice useless.

Open up people, hit menu, import/export, choose export to SD card and it will ask if you want to send to your google account

Can someone tell me more about using Google Voice and the voice commands. Do i need to use my google voice number somehow on the phone?
Do i start having people call me using the GV number? I ask because i use my cell for personal and work. My cell number is on my biz card and i really don't want to change that.

"Google Voice" is a whole different service. You don't need it on your cell phone. You can keep whatever number you have. "Voice Actions" are unrelated.

How do you like Bugless Beast these days? I used to run it all the time a couple months ago but it seemed like the Foyo version would kill my batter quick. I switched to LithiumMod and think its a little better but nothing special. Though the themeing of icons and whatnot is much cooler than on BB.
After you load the Google Voice app on your phone, you can still use your own cell number to place/receive calls while taking advantage of some of Google Voice's features. You can still have personalized voice mail greetings, for example, depending on which number a call is being placed from. You can't use all the features, though (e.g., recording calls). I don't use the voice commands, but I suspect that they'd be in the category of features you can use with your own cell number.For texts, you can't really use Google Voice's features (e.g., threaded conversations) unless you're using your Google Voice number to send/receive texts.
Ah. Then disregard my post. It's still worth getting GV, though, IMO.

Without using the Google Voice number, Google Voice provides unlimited (I don't know if it's technically unlimited, but for practical purposes . . .) voice mail storage, and you can store your voice mails for as long as you want. (With Verizon's voice mail, they're deleted after a few weeks.) You can also, as I mentioned above, personalize your voice mail greeting depending on who's calling you. You can also have Google Voice transcribe your voice mails. The transcription isn't perfect, but it's not bad. That makes your voice mails searchable. And you can also have Google Voice send you a text with the transcription whenever you get a voice mail. That's handy on old-fashioned cell phones if you don't like calling in to check your messages — getting a text is easier. You can also place international calls very cheaply. (E.g., to China is $0.02/min.) And using your smart phone (but not an old-fashioned cell phone), you can play/delete/archive/read-transcriptions-of voice mail messages from your phone without dialing out. (You can also play/delete/archive/read-transcriptions-of messages on your PC.)Visual Voicemail came preloaded on my Droid X, but it costs $2.99/month to use, and as far as I can tell, it doesn't do anything that Google Voice doesn't do; but I haven't really checked it out all that fully.

Reading back the voice mail transcriptions has become a running joke with my friends at work. I haven't been impressed with the accuracy, but they are good for a laugh. All my friends and family are probably just mumblers.

How do i start voice commands? i have always been able to voice dial with bluetooth headset or by using voice dialer. Is this something different? I feel stupid, the most i have gotten is being asked if i want to use GV when making a call.

what kind of phone do you have? mytouch 3g?2.2 landed for me today. Running smoothly, but the audio is acting furleyish. With the exception of Pandora, all music and notifications have a buzz to them if they even work. If not, it's all buzz
I can't get skyfire to play streaming radio (using microsof siverlight).....you?

Anyone else having battery issues since Froyo dropped? Mine isn't lasting nearly as long as it did before the update. I can't figure out what it might have reset to cause this.

I have a Google Voice account, but I don't use it that often. Everybody pretty much already had my cell number, so I felt no need to change.
However, when I meet someone new, I usually give them my Google Voice number until I know them a bit better. So I'll call and text that person through GV.
But that's kind of a pain to do with the all-or-nothing approach with the GV app... you either set your phone to call everyone through GV or no one. No in between, no "just this person through GV" option.
And, even more annoyingly, there appears to be no way to initiate a call in the Google Voice app on the phone. That can't be right, but seriously, that's what I'm finding. Open GV App, and I see my inbox, but no "contacts" or "make a call" option. There's a "send sms" but nothing for calling.
Am I missing something? Is there another app I can use that someone could recommend? Or do I really have to switch my phone's settings to "Use Google Voice for All Calls" every time I want to contact the one or two people I use GV for? (Or, alternatively, do I have to open the web browser, go to google.com/voice, and initiate every call that way?)

The audio from Slacker and Pandora do not sound the same since the Froyo update, has anyone else experienced this? Sounds drowned out, not as full as before.

It's fixed, but could be a long time before we see it (considering how long it takes to go from Android release, to manufacturer, to carrier, i.e. how long it took to go from 2.1 to 2.2). Would be quicker for Pandora/Slacker/etc to "fix" it but that will never happen."Issue is fixed in current source, but not yet available in a packaged release."
