Bills | Crowell could move to MLB if Fletcher-Baker leaves

Fri, 16 Feb 2007 20:57:07 -0800

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills LB Angelo Crowell is an option at middle linebacker if LB London Fletcher-Baker leaves the team, according to general manager Marv Levy.

Most of what I've been hearing is Fletcher-Baker is good as gone. What say you ... homers?

And then you have this...

(KFFL) Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports the Buffalo Bills will evaluate the status of LB Takeo Spikes during the offseason to determine whether he can return to form after dealing with an assortment of injuries in 2006. "It's a question. It's a concern. I want to deal closely with our medical staff and the coaches opinions on it," general manager Marv Levy said. "Coming back from an Achilles is always very difficult, and it may have led to other injuries like the hamstring and ankle. Takeo didn't have a year equal to what he had in the past. I think that's one of the situations that we have to address with the coaches and ask, 'How does he fit?' We're in the process still of evaluating a lot of it."

...I'm loving Crowell's chances of making a splash in 2007.

This is a beitch. I have one franchise tag, and both Kampman and Crowell's contracts are up. I have depth at DL, but Kampman was an absolute stud last year. I'm short of LB's. One of em is gonna cost me a ton of $ to keep. Our FA period is April 1, so the Bill's LB situation may not clear up in time for me to wiegh the risks. I almost have to keep both of them.

If Crowell moves to the middle they will have to hope that Spikes can be the player he was before the injury - otherwise they will have to find a replacement in FA/draft. I'd guess they would draft one in the 3rd or so, try to coach him up if Spikes can't make it.

Just a little more on top of Slinger's post:

From Rotoworld:

General manager Marv Levy said Friday that the Bills are "still in the process of evaluating" whether or not they will bring LB Takeo Spikes back in 2007.

Spikes was sub par in his first season back from an Achilles' tendon tear and the Bills would save nearly $3 million in salary cap room by letting him go. According to Levy, the team is considering moving OLB Angelo Crowell to the middle and might pursue someone like LB Cato June via free agency.
Keith Ellison anyone?
