Also boats and Robert Johnson. Great stuff man!
Hey thanks, my mom commandeered the boat pic and got that bad boy a $300 frame job (custom framingis cray) and the Robert Johnson is hanging in my studio (den) and I actually like that one. 2 of my favorite paintings actually.
The Robert Johnson was is awesome as well. To be honest I don't think anything you've done is less than fantastic.

Love the Barry Bonds one.
did this in art school during the height of the thing, had to explain it to all the artnerds that never watched sports. favorite story about being a "jock" at an art college. On some walk to a Asian park thing in Chicago during the winter, a snowball fight broke out and I felt like Nolan Ryan beaning turds left and right. The best was an emo kid running like 40 yards away, i chucked one and hit him right between the shoulders. They thought I should have been in the Olympics or something.
Being able to paint like that, to me it's like you can breathe fire or crap hundred dollar bills. I almost failed high school art class. My wife's niece goes to the art school at Temple and sometimes she'll show us a painting and I can't believe I know a person who did that. Then I'll go to a museum and some idiot has scrawled angry rants on a blank white wall and it's their featured exhibit for the month. But I digress. If I had that kind of talent there would've been a thread about it a long time ago.

If I buy a canvas I'm giving it to Annyong with some cash and a photo of Mike McCready or Scarlett Johansson.

Nah, have some fun and slap some paint on a canvas.

So with all the #######s (myself included) lining up for a commission... You clearly have to see that you've got game.

You should listen to Ben Nichols "last pale light" EP:.. then swing by Lucero family Picnic (Minglewood hall parking lot)... Then throw some paint at the wall.

Signed:

That Ben Nichols EP is fantastic.

Awesome work, love your style.

Is all of this work scanned? Hi-res? Ever consider printing copies for sale then putting a premium price on the original? I have no doubt that you could make a killing in the FFA alone.

Seriously. I would definitely buy a few prints. I would pay in advance even if startup costs are an issue. The Robert Johnson one is epic.

Out of curiosity, were you to actually sell these, how much would you ask for
That's one of my issues. I don't really know what to charge people and feel bad for it, for some reason.

The other problem is time. The Robert Johnson type paintings take anywhere from 10-15 hours if guess. I did those before kids. The new ones are about an hour Id guess

People love the ones you've already completed. There are TONS of people selling prints of their work for ~$20 each on Etsy. Some even just sell a digital version that the buyer can print and frame. You keep the originals Andy out don't feel guilty because you aren't taking piles of money from people. Respectable profit and people are getting a good product.

Set up some prints of the best 5 or so and see if they sell. Put some of the older ones and some of the newer ones and see which sell.

You are uber talented, should get a few bucks for it, and there is definitely demand.

Big fan here - charge more and carve out some more time. Just really sweet stuff.

even though I went to school for a long time for this, I still felt bad/weird charging people for my work when I started- so I can empathize a bit. something about putting a price tag on creativity... dunno.

but then I stopped being creative- and stopped feeling bad about charging.

it feels awesome having the soul sucked out of me.

Holy crap, this hits home. I'm used to getting paid for tangible work. Stuff like this is hard to price. Getting paid for something I enjoy doing is foreign to me. I don't want to sell myself short, but I don't want to overprice myself. But now that I think about it, I should, since I don't really have the time.

I'm also terribly afraid of sending something out that the customer doesn't absolutely LOVE.
:lofive:

eta: your work is really good though. I like the ideas thrown around in here about starting off by putting prints up for auction or low price and see what the demand is. if my wife wasn't also a creative type with strong opinions who also happens to hate me, I'd hire you to do a family portrait.
