If he then started ripping out pages and using them as toilet tissue, his supporters would stop mid-sentence and start yelling : "What a powerful statement... We can't rely on faith to solve these problems anymore, we need strong leadership and someone to make the tough calls. So grateful for President Trump!"
It just doesn't matter what he says or does.

I get cops are in a tough spot. I've spoken to that in here. This is just a lose-lose situation for them.
But the Federal government can de-escalate situations without the use of law enforcement. That is what I hoped. To reach out a hand and start to move the discussion forward. Instead, he just reignited things. Pretty much saying we won't be bullied which in some cases, can be viewed as a pissing contest between the President and the protesters. I think he is supposed to be the bigger man but he's never been that.

I'm afraid of where we're headed in this moment. We've been building to it for years as Trump's own party has refused to stand up to him on even the most basic elements of human decency.

Investigating civil rights violations fall within the jurisdiction of the federal government. Assuming you’re talking about allegations of systemic racism and police brutality, I think the feds have a role.

Perfect example - Mayor of Austin said today that they got intel from the FBI prior to this weekend that outside groups were planning to come to Austin to disrupt the protests. I reckon that was quite helpful and appreciated.

I think we all need to calm down a little bit.
Trump’s speech was awful, no doubt about it. It made me feel sick listening to it. But that’s because I’m not a conservative. Conservatives are going to hear that speech and like the fact that he’s getting tough. In fact, I expect his approval rating to go up.
But those of you fearing dictatorship, don’t. As usual his speech was bluster. He’s got no way to call the military out to states that don’t want it, just as a month ago when he said he could order states to open up again, that was all crap too. Like 100% of everything he’s ever done during his Presidency, he’s playing up to his base. That’s all he knows how to do.
As for the riots, I suspect @Cowboysfan8 is correct: we’re going to have them no matter what Trump said or didn’t say. We’re going to have them until the bad elements among the protesters get weary of it. But that being said, I suspect Trump made things just a bit worse.

So you don't think he has made things worse by threatening to deploy the US military on US citizens? Instead of saying, I don't know, we hear you, we're listening and we're going to work to make this country a better place for all. Perhaps, have a few ideas of how to do that.

Some of us just watched a deliberate provocation of peaceful protesters in DC. It's not crazy to think that maybe it was timed to correspond with Donald's declaration of war on our citizens.

I'm a slightly-right leaning, fairly typical conservative Christian. Devout, despite my many faults. Trump has offended me and many like me forever. Never bought what he's trying to sell. Makes me sad many in my demographic do, and I can't seem to convince them what he really is. I have never voted for him and never will (I wrote in a nobody on my Oregon primary ballot a couple of weeks ago). I too am guilty of many of those sins from time to time. But in the Bible we are told to judge a tree by its fruit. Our President's fruit does not reveal a devout, worshipful man.

Nevermind that a domestic group cannot be classified as a "Terrorist Organization", if one could be it's "funny" that we've chosen Antifa (which most people had never heard of a week ago) instead of, say, the Ku Klux Klan.
