I watched Revis shut down Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub last year in week 1, so count me in the camp of Boldin owners very worried about rolling him out there to start the fantasy season. I generally don't sweat WDIS decisions this early with guys I spent a high pick on (and I badly reached on Boldin), but I am strongly leaning toward starting Malcolm Floyd instead. He's on my bench. Revis made me a believer last year by relentlessly destroying my studs. I don't care if he hasn't practiced. I'll have to see a WR beat him first before I start anyone against him.
1 will underperform badly and the other will just underperform. Don't feel obligated to waste 2 lineup spots just because you have to start one of them.I am concerned about the very same thing. I've got Boldin AND Mason. I'm considering starting them both, for fear of losing out on one of them. Maybe not the best strategy, but for week 1, who knows.Either Revis shuts down Boldin and Mason shines, or they are both pretty even.
I'm sure Johnson/Moss etc owners said the same thing last year.Ride or Die with Boldin on my FPC team. Can't imagine how pissed I would be if I benched him for Felix Jones, only to have Boldin do his thing.
Boldin wants to come out with a bang and show Baltimore fans he can be the difference maker they've needed at WR. I don't think anybody will be able to stop him this week, not even Revis.
I was just going to post something similar. I don't see Revis on Boldin all day. Boldin shines in the slot and on short plays where he can uses his power to gain yardage. He may have a deep ball or two, but that all depends on how the Ravens use him. Revis' strength tends to be down-field forcing throws underneath, exactly where Boldin will be.I'm not sure what to make of Boldin vs. Revis, honestly. Are we even sure that's who Revis will be on? Obviously, the Jets want to use Revis as productively as they can, and last year, that meant keeping him glued to the other team's biggest gun. But against every team they played, pretty much without exception, the other team's biggest gun was a serious downfield threat. That's exactly what primo man coverage skills are designed to take away. But I'm not sure Boldin is really that type of player. Boldin's most effective taking turnarounds and quick hits and muscling them into something.I was trying to think of another top level wideout with Boldin's sort of power-receiving skillset, but nobody came to mind. I would have liked to see Revis's results against Hines Ward, but I don't think they've ever played. (And Revis would have been on Holmes anyway.) The Jets played Brandon Marshall in 2008, and he's capable of playing Boldin-ball, even if he doesn't always. He went 5/55/0 in the game. Not sure whether Revis was on him all day that day or not.I'm not sure Revis, as good as he is, can take away an underneath quick hit game like that. He can minimize the damage it does, but I think it's a lot harder to shut a player like Boldin out of the box score with elite CB skills than it is a player like Moss...even though Moss is clearly the better overall talent.Guys like Sterling Sharpe, Michael Irvin, and Cris Carter always seemed to be the only ones that could produce against an in-his-prime Deion. I think Boldin plays a lot more like those guys than like the downfield threats today's elite WR corps are littered with. I hesitate to simply label them "possession receivers" and lump them in with the Bobby Engrams of the world. But elite, really physical possession receivers, I guess.I wouldn't dare predict a big game, but 6/60 and maybe a score wouldn't surprise me much.
That's exactly who I would go with if I bench Boldin. I'm leaning towards doing it, even though I also start Mathews from SD.I watched Revis shut down Andre Johnson and Matt Schaub last year in week 1, so count me in the camp of Boldin owners very worried about rolling him out there to start the fantasy season. I'm sure Revis stayed in shape. All he has to be able to do is run with Boldin. If he's on Boldin throughout the game, I can see a 1 catch for 12 yards night. And Revis seems to be a glued-to-one-receiver type of CB, not someone who plays a side. How is Revis' tackling? Because if Boldin can catch one, he might be able to break a tackle.I'm starting Boldin this week. I'll take a good/great WR who has gone through a full pre-season over a guy who hasn't gone through the rigors of pre-season. I don't care who you are you can't miss camp and be in football shape. Just my opinion.
He's not Winfield, but he's one of the top tackling corners in the league, for sure. Comes up and makes plenty of tackles on rbs as well.I'm sure Revis stayed in shape. thinking of using either McFadden if Bush sits or Hester but I agree on Benching for this week.I would definitely sit him if you have a legit option on your bench.
